- Josh Baker: [opening line] This is the story of what can happen to a guy, for talking to a strange woman on the street.
- Cheryl: You're gonna kill me, aren't you?
- The Doctor: Why, yes, I eventually I will. But I promise you... you're gonna be in perfect health before you die.
- Josh Baker: I can give you a headline.
- Elias Zacharai: Try me.
- Josh Baker: An ambulance that picks up New Yorkers, and they're never seen or heard from again. A vehicle of mercy that's really a murder machine.
- Josh Baker: Hey does that old thing still work?
- Elias Zacharai: Are you kidding? This is one of the great cameras of all times. I once took a picture of Louis 'Lepke' Buchalter, strapped in the electric chair with this thing!
- Josh Baker: You know I must be on drugs--I'm beginning to like you.
- Elias Zacharai: Oh, thank you. Just what I needed: a compliment from a junkie.
- Officer Sandra Malloy: You always hassle girls on the street?
- Josh Baker: Look, I know it sounds really terrible. But I just *had* to do it!
- Lt. Spencer: Absolutely, Josh. It's a conspiracy. The entire hospital staff, and the New York Police Department are all out to get ya.
- Lt. Spencer: A lot of people think you're odd, Joshua. At least that's what they tell us. Strange young fella, not quite normal. How does it look to you?
- Nurse Feinstein: Why do I always get the strange ones on my floor?
- Josh Baker: What are you in for?
- Elias Zacharai: They say cardiac, I say indigestion. Goddamn blackened redfish Cajun food. Who ever heard of serving that crap to a non-Cajun?
- Cheryl: I have met creepier guys than you. I just can't recall when!
- Josh Baker: I knew you'd be charming.
- Lt. Spencer: Comic books? You make up comic books?
- Josh Baker: Well, somebody has to do it.
- Lt. Spencer: I used to love the old joke books years ago. Especially the classic comics. They got me through high school. But the stuff today... is just too bizarre, too weird. Like it's geared for kids who are whacked out of their fuckin' minds. Comic books scare me nowadays.
- Josh Baker: You must scare easily. I mean, for a cop.
- Lt. Spencer: [Looking at Josh's sketch of Cheryl] I know her. Yeah... Veronica, in Archie. She looks like Veronica!
- Josh Baker: No she doesn't! Veronica's got bangs.
- Lt. Spencer: Maybe you just made her up.
- Josh Baker: Now why would I wanna do that?
- Lt. Spencer: Come to think of it, there's a cop over in homicide division, looks like Jughead. Now he gets all pissed off when I tell him that.
- Josh Baker: Uh, Lieutenant - do you think that we will be able to find her?
- Lt. Spencer: [Points] Sit!
- Josh Baker: [Quietly] Yes, sir.
- [Sits]
- Lt. Spencer: What exactly do you think happened? The ambulance picked her up, where'd they put her?
- Josh Baker: I don't know.
- Lt. Spencer: Maybe they're lost.
- Josh Baker: ... lost her.
- Lt. Spencer: Yeah. Maybe they stopped at a red light, and she fell out.
- [Grins maniacally]
- Josh Baker: It's not likely, Lieutenant.
- Lt. Spencer: You take it from me: she'll turn up. One thing about women, they always turn up. Next time she does, ask her what her goddamn name is!
- Lt. Spencer: What do you want?
- Officer Sandra Malloy: Don't forget you got a four o'clock dental appointment.
- Lt. Spencer: [Shoots to his feet] How the hell do you know? You been going through my desk again? Why is it, every time I have a cavity, you know it before *I* do?
- Officer Sandra Malloy: I don't know what you're talking about.
- [She starts to leave but turns back]
- Officer Sandra Malloy: Your car insurance payment is due today.
- Lt. Spencer: Get the HELL out of my office!
