Did Keanu Reeves Just Give the Funniest Performance of His Career?
Image
As we’ve mentioned already, Aziz Ansari’s upcoming directorial debut Good Fortune has a number of pretty major story problems — some of which may have been fixed had the project not been a last-ditch effort to throw together a movie that couldn’t be ruined by Bill Murray’s creepy behavior.

But one element of the movie that remains an unqualified success is Keanu Reeves' performance as Gabriel, the guardian angel who’s been put in charge of Heaven’s anti-texting and driving initiative. But Gabriel oversteps his bounds by trying to save a lost soul played by Ansari, and ends up landing in hot water with his angelic bosses.

Keanu Reeves Gets Alex Winter's Support at 'Good Fortune' TIFF Premiere Ahead of Their Broadway Play
Image
Keanu Reeves and Aziz Ansari pose together at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival premiere of their new movie Good Fortune held at Roy Thomson Hall on Saturday (September 6) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The 61-year-old John Wick actor stars in the new comedy alongside the 42-year-old comedian, who also wrote the movie and makes his directorial debut!

Also stepping out for the TIFF premiere was Keanu‘s longtime friend and Bill & Ted co-star Alex Winter, who showed his support for the new movie.

In Good Fortune, a well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Reeves) meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist...

Aziz Ansari on How His Canceled ‘Being Mortal’ Led to ‘Good Fortune,’ and with Help from Angels Like Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen
Image
Aziz Ansari’s feature directing debut, “Good Fortune,” wasn’t meant to be his first effort as a filmmaker: That would’ve been “Being Mortal,” called off mid-shoot in 2022 amid accusations of misconduct against Bill Murray. So it was inevitable that alongside the TIFF premiere of “Good Fortune,” a comedy starring Keanu Reeves and “Being Mortal” star Seth Rogen, he’d have to address the canceled film. And it turns out, they share thematic DNA.

The South Carolina-born Indian-American actor, writer, director, and stand-up comedian is known by audiences worldwide as serial entrepreneur Tom “Treat Yo Self” Haverford on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” and as the more somber, lovelorn Dev Shah on the Netflix hit series “Master of None.”

Could “Good Fortune” and his should-have-been debut “Being Mortal” have swapped titles? After all, in the TIFF premiere, Keanu Reeves plays Gabriel, the Angel of Texting and Driving — in L.

‘The Christophers’ Review: Steven Soderbergh’s Chamber Drama Is a Riveting Meditation on Art
Image
About midway through “The Christophers,” director Steven Soderbergh’s latest film from a script by his frequent collaborator Ed Solomon, there is a scene where an artist is driven not to create something beautiful, but to destroy it in favor of something ugly.

The artist in question is the aged painter Julian Sklar, played by a witheringly good Ian McKellen, and watching on is his faux assistant Lori, played by the always magnificent Michaela Coel, who comes into his orbit when hired to steal then finish via forgery some of his most iconic yet incomplete works. However, as should be known with any recent Soderbergh film, the initial premise of...

‘Good Fortune’: How Aziz Ansari Wrote a ‘Budget Guardian Angel’ for Keanu Reeves
Image
Lionsgate’s upcoming dramedy “Good Fortune” has been heavily sold on Keanu Reeves giving up the guns of John Wick for the comically tiny wings of Gabriel, a socially awkward angel who tries to give a man an “It’s a Wonderful Life”-esque lesson even though that’s way above his pay grade.

At TIFF 2025, the film’s writer, director and star Aziz Ansari told TheWrap’s Joe McGovern that his work on his Netflix series “Master of None” prepared him when writing Gabriel for Reeves, showing him how to convert his conversations with his cast into lines that help the actors put their voice into the character.

“I read Elia Kazan,...

‘Good Fortune’ Review: Keanu Reeves Plays an Inept Guardian Angel in Aziz Ansari’s Alternately Fun and Clunky Satire
Image
For his feature film directorial bow, Aziz Ansari examines the current state of the American Dream through the throwback lens of It’s a Wonderful Life by way of Trading Places. While the homage is heartfelt, and certainly packs its share of genuine laughs, the end result can’t escape feeling like a hodgepodge, incapable of cohesively blending the satirical elements with the earnest messaging foremost on its mind.

Fortunately for Good Fortune, it has Keanu Reeves as a “budget guardian angel” who’s itching to do more with his celestial existence than prevent mortals from texting while driving. Summoning those deadpan days of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Parenthood, Reeves’ determined but out-of-his-depths Gabriel consistently scores as the film’s comedic secret weapon.

Given the following Ansari has cultivated from Master of None and Parks and Recreation, moviegoers could be willing to embrace those good intentions when the film,...

Good Fortune Review: Keanu Reeves Is The Funniest Part Of Aziz Ansari's Charming Debut Film [TIFF 2025]
Image
"Good Fortune" is a must-watch for any fans of the last major project Aziz Ansari directed and starred in, his poignant Netflix dramedy "Master of None." His debut movie has a similar easygoing vibe; it's sad but never too sad, funny but still grounded. The premise of "Good Fortune" sure sounds ridiculous on paper — it's about an angel who haphazardly throws a mortal into a "Freaky Friday"-esque situation with disastrous results — but the humor is largely based around real-world frustrations with the gig economy and the rising costs of living. It's a movie about how cruel the world can be to people struggling to get by, and the sheer...

‘Good Fortune’ Review: Aziz Ansari & Seth Rogen Trade Lives With Help From Inept Angel Keanu Reeves In Hilarious Gig Economy Comedy – Toronto Film Festival
Image
Poaching elements from movies like Heaven Can Wait, Oh God, and It’s A Wonderful Life to life-switchers like Trading Places, and then mixing in the social consciousness of Preston Sturges socially conscious comedies of the ’40s like Sullivan’s Travels, and you have the recipe for a contemporary take on the kind of lighthearted fantasies Hollywood digs up every now and then, but now perfectly timed for a world divided even more grossly into the haves and have-nots.

Aziz Ansari, making his feature directorial debut, writes and stars as Arj, an L.A. gig economy guy who just can’t get a break, working various dead-end jobs but dreaming of breaking into the entertainment business when by happenstance he meets Jeff (Seth Rogen), a super rich tech company mogul who basically is now living the easy life from his Bel Air home’s ultra modern sauna, planning to hire a...

Alex Winter’s Excellent Adventure in ‘Adulthood’
Image
“When I was young and I went from acting to directing and people would always say, ‘Oh, are you doing that so you have more control?’ ” remembers Alex Winter. “I’m like, ‘Are you kidding? Directors have more bosses than anybody — you’re delusional!’ “

Best known onscreen as one half of Bill & Ted (he’s Bill), Winter has built a directorial career that has included everything from features to docs, television and music videos. His latest feature, Adulthood, revolves around a brother and sister, played by Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario, who are taking care of their elderly mother after a stroke when they discover a long-buried body in the basement of the family home. The film, which is set to screen at Toronto before heading into a limited theatrical release Sept. 19 via Republic Pictures, also marks Winter’s return to narrative filmmaking after a prolific string of award-winning...

Steven Soderbergh Goes Rogue (Again)
Image
Steven Soderbergh is going back to where he started: two people in a room, with no safety net.

His new film, The Christophers, which bows in Toronto’s Special Presentations section, was made entirely outside the system. There’s no studio, no sales company, no distributor. “Yeah, we’re going old school,” Soderbergh says. “We’re going to world premiere it and see what happens. It’s risky, but if it works, the best-case scenario is to get multiple parties interested. So as soon as I saw how the calendar was going to lay out, I already had Toronto in mind because I’ve always had good experiences there.”

That sense of risk has defined Soderbergh’s career from the beginning. In 1989, he burst onto the scene with Sex, Lies, and Videotape, the low-budget indie that premiered in Sundance and went on to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes,...

Broadway Fall Preview 2025: Stars Of Stage, Screen And Magic Take NYC (With The Muppets Along For The Ride)
Image
Will Broadway’s upcoming fall season match the starry line-up of last spring, when George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook and other performers best known for their film and TV work brought in big audiences and bigger bucks?

In a word, yes.

Among the big names taking the stage in the months ahead are Keanu Reeves, Bobby Cannavale, Carrie Coon, Mark Strong and Lea Michele as well as such Broadway stalwarts as Neil Patrick Harris, Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, James Corden and Laurie Metcalf.

Some new plays are in the mix, as well as an original musical (The Queen of Versailles) and plenty of revivals, a return engagement (Beetlejuice) and even a magic show (Rob Lake Magic with Special Guests The Muppets).

By the way, Off Broadway...

Film Festival Matchmaking: Where Some of This Year’s Hottest Titles Could End Up, Including ‘Bad Apples,’ ‘Christy,’ and ‘Dead Man’s Wire’
Image
Every year, the agents tell us the sales market at festivals takes longer to materialize, and every year they turn out to be (mostly) right. Still, before each film festival kicks off, we take the time to round up the handful of movies that could still fetch those illusory bidding wars and fantastic 8-figure deals.

The truth is tough: only a few ever have a chance of that. But, there are plenty of smaller movies that will not only find a home, but truly deserve to, even if those final sales takes a month or more to be ironed out.

This year, we’re not going to try to predict which movies will resonate and get the big dollars. Instead, we’re going to tell you which potential pairings makes sense, the vibes we’re getting from each of these “buzzy” films, and where we “could see” such a movie landing.

Eddie Murphy Turned Down Rush Hour To Make One Of His Biggest Flops
Image
Over 40 years since he came blazing out of nowhere to save "Saturday Night Live," we are still howling at the explosive comedic brilliance of Eddie Murphy. He was still a kid when he made his big-screen debut in Walter Hill's masterful two-hander "48 Hrs.," and became the biggest star in Hollywood two years later when "Beverly Hills Cop" turned out to be the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time. Every time Murphy stepped in front of a camera, audiences were prepared to laugh themselves silly, so it was somewhat disconcerting when he downshifted to third gear and gave us just funny enough throwaways like "The Golden Child," "Beverly Hills Cop II...

Keanu Reeves' Assassin Flick Dethrones Stephen King's 77% Rotten Tomatoes Horror Hit on Streaming

Keanu Reeves has given us many mind-bending movies, be it The Matrix, Constantine, the Bill and Ted franchise, and while the actor has done all kinds of roles, he’s best known for his action, which found its epitome in the John Wick franchise. Hailing from franchise director Chad Stahelski, the movies always find a new way to increase John’s kill count and newer ways to add his pawwsome yet lethal furry friends.

And now, per FlixPatorl, John has taken down a supernatural foe as John Wick: Chapter 4 grabs the top spot on Hulu charts, dethroning Stephen King's hit horror adaptation The Monkey, starring Theo James, which had...

The Awful '80s Comedy That Keanu Reeves Headlined Before His Rise To Fame
Image
It's easy to look at Keanu Reeves' long career and surmise that the man has been on top for decades. As the star of the "John Wick" films, he cemented his standing as one of the all-time greats of Hollywood and has a long list of equally great movies on his résumé dating all the way back to the 1980s. But like any actor, Reeves has experienced ups and downs, and some of the downs have been pretty abject.

Even prior to his first appearance as the titular assassin in 2014's "John Wick," Reeves was at a real nadir career-wise. His 2010 rom-com "Henry's Crime" failed at the box office, after which Reeves took a short break from acting to produce a documentary before starring in the independent drama "Generation Um..." in 2012. That film currently bears a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn't always the best guide, but in the case of "Generation Um.

Freaked: The Near-Lost Cult Comedy Restored to Gross-Out Glory
Image
We're living in what feels like a golden age of film restoration: from classic Hollywood to obscure Eastern European animation to hidden African gems to old cult films, it's getting easier to find, restore, and create collector's editions of movies we thought would be lost forever.  One such gem is Freaked, the frenetic horror comedy. Co-written and directed by Alex Winter (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure) and Tom Stern (Butthole Surfers), the film did not do well on its original release in 1993, hence perhaps why it's been hard to find all these decades. But it's a film that comes up often in conversation among cult film fans, and at last, for those who never got the chance to see it, a 4K Uhd restoration from Drafthouse...

Keanu Reeves To Be Reunited With Stolen Watches Including 'John Wick 4' Rolex
Image
In another universe, Keanu Reeves is probably John Wick and would never have allowed the criminals who stole $125,000 worth of watches from his home in 2023 to get away with the heist unscathed. Instead, the nicest man in Hollywood has had to wait two years to hear that his lost timepieces have been recovered and will be heading back to him very soon. As Bill S. Preston Esq. might say, “Excellent!”

The actor’s luxury watch collection was stolen from the actor’s Hollywood Hills home in December 2023. The robbery was one of several in the area which were reported at the time as a large wave of crime in the celebrity-heavy location. The watches, which included a $9,000 Rolex, were recently found as part of a much larger collection of stolen goods during police raids in Santiago. The watches were initially recovered by the Chilean authorities, and after being verified as belonging to Reeves,...

Keanu Reevesand Alex Winterhave been a duo since 1989 when the film Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventurewas released. The two actors have been one of those duos fans love to see pop up together, and now you can watch all three films in the franchise on Pluto TV.

Why Every Keanu Reeves Movie Was Once Banned In China
Image
Keanu Reeves is one of the most famous American action stars, someone who can reliably boost a movie's box office returns. This reputation took a small hit a few years ago however, when Reeves drew the ire of one of Hollywood's biggest sources of revenue: China.

In March 2022, Reeves attended a pro-Tibet benefit concert, one that reportedly enraged Chinese nationalists. There was a major backlash against Reeves on Chinese social media platforms, which included calls to boycott his films. It's not clear how much this affected the Chinese box office returns of "The Matrix: Resurrections," which performed poorly in China for reasons that may have been similar to why it performed poorly in the US. The real damage to Reeves' box office potential happened a few weeks later, when China quietly scrubbed his movies from all their major streaming sites. Hit movies like "The Matrix," "Speed," "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure...

Clint Eastwood Almost Starred In A Will Smith Sci-Fi Box Office Hit
Image
It's not easy to make a name for yourself in the world of film and television, especially when everyone else is trying to do the same thing. Some talent, whether they be actors, writers, or filmmakers, get lucky in their first few projects, while others won't get to see the fruits of their industry labor until much further down the line. Clint Eastwood technically made his big screen debut in 1955 in an uncredited role in "Revenge of the Creature," yet kept finding himself in bit parts over the next few years. Even "Rawhide," the television western career gig that got his foot in the door, would take up seven and a half years of his life on CBS. But not only would the experience of starring in those eight seasons serve as a testing ground as for his directorial sensibilities, it would also prompt him to travel to Spain, where...

Kate Winslet Drops Out of Hulu Series ‘The Spot’
Image
Kate Winslet will no longer star in the Hulu drama series “The Spot,” Variety has confirmed.

The project was originally announced in 2024 with Winslet set to lead the series and executive produce under her Juggle Productions banner. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Winslet’s departure came due to creative differences brought on by a change in the show’s creative direction.

Conversations are now ongoing with other actresses to take over the role. Production on the series is still expected to commence in 2026.

Winslet has been a force to be reckoned with in TV in the past several years. She most recently starred in the HBO limited series “The Regime.” Previously, she starred in the HBO limited series “Mare of Easttown,” for which she won the Emmy Award for best actress in a limited series. She won in the same category in 2011 for the HBO series “Mildred Pierce.

Kate Winslet Exits Hulu Series ‘The Spot’ Over Creative Differences
Image
Kate Winslet exited the upcoming Hulu series “The Spot” due to creative differences, TheWrap has learned.

The Oscar and Emmy winner agreed to part ways on the project, produced by A24 and created by Ed Solomon, after realizing the creative direction of the show required a different approach to the leading role. Casting is underway with “multiple A-list” talent in consideration, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

Production is expected to resume as planned in 2026.

Winslet was initially tapped to star and executive produce “The Spot,” which Solomon also executive produces. The show received a straight-to-series order from the Disney-owned streamer in a competitive situation back in August 2024.

The official logline for “The Spot” reads: “When a successful surgeon and her schoolteacher husband begin to suspect that she may be responsible for a child’s hit-and-run death, their quest for truth spirals into a web of mounting suspicion and dark secrets,...

The Humble Reason Keanu Reeves Didn't Play Bass On John Wick's Soundtrack, Despite Being In A Band
Image
John Wickstar and musician Keanu Reeves purposely bowed out of appearing on the movie's soundtrack for incredibly humble reasons. As an actor known for major roles in everything from Bill & Ted to The Matrix, many might be aware that Reeves has also been the bassist for the alternative rock band Dogstar since 1994.

In a recent conversation with ScreenRant, John Wick score composer Tyler Bates spoke candidly about his work on the franchise and explained the respectful reason that Reeves never got involved in the music side of the production. Despite clearly having the musical chops required, Bates explained that Reeves wasn’t the type of guy to steal another artist's glory.

ScreenRant: Have you ever worked with Keanu? I know he's a bassist, [with] a band and everything.

Tyler Bates: I love the guy. Now I've done, I don’t know, seven movies he's been in, and I've encountered him on every film.

Stephen King Thinks This Clint Eastwood Movie Is One Of This Century's Best
Image
The New York Times recently ran a poll asking famous filmmakers, actors, and writers to name the best movies of the century so far. From Pedro Almodóvar to "West Side Story" and "Snow White" star Rachel Zegler, the Times asked dozens upon dozens of famous people about their favorite feature films released since the year 2000 and then compiled their responses into a Top 100 list (ranked by which movies got the most votes). The poll was very similar to the polls that Sight & Sound holds once every decade, only limited to releases from the last 25 years and inviting a different team of filmmakers, writers, and executives to participate. (Sight & Sound also invites critics and essayists.)

As of this writing, one can see many of the Top 10 lists submitted by the participants, and, boy howdy, are some of the choices interesting. Alex Winter, the star of the "Bill & Ted" films and director of "Freaked,...

The 15 Best Football Movies Of All Time, Ranked
Image
If baseball is America's pastime, then football is America's game, offering a harder hitting sport that pushes its players to their absolute limits. Ever since Hollywood started making sports movies, it's produced films revolving around football as a testament to the enduring popularity and cultural relevance of the game. And like the medium itself, football movies range across multiple dramas, whether it be searing dramas or screwball comedies. The narratives in the movies themselves can be based directly on true stories or just use the sport as a cinematic springboard for something wholly original.

Even if viewers aren't necessarily fans of football itself, there is still plenty to enjoy from movies surrounding the sport. With football always bringing such high intensity, movies about it can rival action flicks or character-driven dramas as a show of its versatility. Here are the 15 best football movies of all time ranked and ready to check out.

As she made her way to the stage, she met up with presenter Oprah Winfrey for a pep talk; together they recreated the finger-grabbing meme that went viral, which originally featured her Wicked co-star Ariana Grande.

15 Movies You Forgot Were Turned Into Animated Series
Image
At this point in the evolution of popular media, it's a cliché to say that everyone's run out of ideas. You need only take a look at a recent year-end box office list to see just how many major properties are getting recycled all the time, rebooted and remade and turned into something new simply because it has built-in name recognition for audiences.

That kind of thing has, in fact, been going on for quite a while. Remakes have been happening since the earliest decades of film history, but in the 1980s and 1990s especially, many breakout movies were immediately monetized as much as possible, adapted into toy lines and breakfast cereals and, yes, Saturday morning cartoons. Some of those cartoons caught on, becoming bona fide smashes in their own right -- for example, it can be jarring to watch the original "Beetlejuice" movie and realize that Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz were not,...

‘From the World of John Wick: Ballerina’ Review: Ana de Armas Fights ‘Like a Girl’ — That Is, Like Jane Wick — in an Entertaining Ultraviolent Spin-Off
Image
In “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina,” an unabashedly pulpy, ultraviolent, and entertaining spin-off of the “John Wick” franchise, Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), a ballerina who is being trained in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma, gets a piece of advice that sounds like it’s going to be iconic. Her trainer, Nogi (Sharon Duncan-Brewster), shoots her a gaze of fury and says, “Fight like a girl.” She means that men possess a brute strength that Eve can’t necessarily match; instead, she should evolve a combat style out of her feminine essence. That tends to be how a lot of female action fantasies have gone, stretching back to the “Batman” TV series, where Batman and Robin were all Pow! and Bam! while Yvonne De Carlo’s Batgirl employed elegant karate kicks. In movies from “La Femme Nikita” to “Wonder Woman,” “Fight like a girl” has not...

Julie Bowen Had Good Reason to Think She’d Be Replaced by Sydney Sweeney in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’
Image
One of the most anticipated comedies of the summer is, of course, Happy Gilmore 2, the sequel to the beloved Adam Sandler comedy about the wannabe hockey player-turned-professional golfer who somehow wasn’t banned from the sport for life after brawling with a senior citizen in the middle of a tournament.

As evidenced by the recently-released trailer, the new movie will be absolutely crammed full of cameos from big name celebrities, including Eminem, Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce and every recognizable pro golfer who’s still alive. It will also feature a number of returning cast members from the original film, including Ben Stiller as Hal L. and Christopher McDonald as the villainous shit-eating Shooter McGavin.

Plus, Julie Bowen will be reprising her role as Happy’s love interest Virginia Venit — which came as a big shock to Bowen.

While making an appearance at Netflix’s Tudum event, Bowen told The Hollywood Reporter...

Chucky Suit Actor Ed Gale Dies at 61 in Los Angeles
Ed Gale
Actor and stunt performer Ed Gale, celebrated for inhabiting the killer doll Chucky in the first two Child’s Play films and 1998’s Bride of Chucky, died Tuesday in a Los Angeles hospice at 61, his niece Kayse Gale said in a Facebook post; TMZ was first to confirm the news, noting that no cause of death has been released.

Born in Plainwell, Michigan, Gale stood 3 ft 4 in because of dwarfism and famously recalled hitch-hiking to California in 1983 “with $41 and a dream.” Three years later he slipped into the animatronic suit of George Lucas’s Howard the Duck, launching a screen career that ultimately logged more than 130 credits. His breakthrough came in 1988 when he wore the Chucky costume while Brad Dourif supplied the voice, returning for Child’s Play 2 (1990) and Bride of Chucky (1998).

Gale’s eclectic résumé included Spaceballs, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, Tiptoes and Robert Zemeckis’s The Polar Express,...

SNL Puts A Hilarious Spin On The Time Travel Of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
Image
Traveling through time sounds like an excellent adventure ... until you remember that deodorant wasn't invented until the end of the 19th century and "splinter-free" toilet paper didn't enter the market until 1935. Between these and other historical inconveniences, time travel has the potential to be a pretty bogus journey.

On the flip side of that, our present time -- as miserable as it might sometimes feel to those of us who live here -- would probably look quite bodacious to time-travelers from the past. That's certainly the case for abolitionists Harriet Tubman (returning guest host Quinta Brunson) and Frederick Douglass (Kenan Thompson) in a sketch from this week's episode of "Saturday Night Live." After partaking in a radical experience with '80s teens Will (Marcello Hernández) and Todd (Andrew Dismukes), Harriet and Frederick politely decline the offer of a return ride to the "1-800s."

Check out the sketch above, co-starring Emil Wakim as Julius Caesar,...

‘SNL’ Spoofs ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’: Harriet Tubman And Frederick Douglass Refuse To Return To The Past
Image
Saturday Night Live opened strong with a hilarious sketch spoofing Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, the 1989 film starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as time-traveling teens to meet historical figures to help them ace an exam.

In Will & Todd’s Radical Experience, Marcel Hernandez and Andrew Dismukes bring to life the titular duo on a similar mission to Bill & Ted, who return to present day with Julius Caesar (Emil Wakim), Queen Elizabeth (Chloe Fineman), Leonardo da Vinci (Mikey Day), Harriet Tubman, and Frederick Douglass (Kenan Thompson).

Only when it was time for the group to return to their respective times did Tubman and Douglass declare their intentions; they planned to stay put in the present. Will and Todd nervously explained to the pair that history would suffer if they refused.

“Without the two of you, who would end slavery?” asked Todd.

“Lots of people are working on that,...

Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves Set for Romance Thriller with ‘Speed’ Producer 30 Years Later
Image
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are speeding towards a “Speed” reunion exactly 30 years after the film was released. The duo, who also famously co-starred in sci-fi romance drama “The Lake House,” will be back onscreen together with an untitled thriller for Amazon MGM Studios. And don’t worry, there is yet another romance component as well for this “propulsive” feature…

THR first reported the project, which IndieWire confirmed.

Plus, “Speed” producer Mark Gordon is producing — and according to Amazon, he is responsible for bringing the feature to both Reeves and Bullock. “Zero Day” co-creator and “Jackie” scribe Noah Oppenheim is penning the script, as well as producing. Gordon and Oppenheim first brought the idea for the film to Reeves and Bullock, who both went on to develop the film with them. Bullock’s Fortis Films, Reeves, Bibby Dunn at The Mark Gordon Company, and Sarah Bremner with Prologue Entertainment are also producing the film.

Angelina Jolie and Edward Burns in Una vita quasi perfetta (2002)
This Angelina Jolie Rom-Com from 2002 is now a Netflix hit, despite a 28% Rt score
Angelina Jolie and Edward Burns in Una vita quasi perfetta (2002)
It’s not every day that a long-forgotten romantic comedy resurfaces on Netflix and claims a top spot on the trending charts. But that’s exactly what’s happened with Life or Something Like It, starring Angelina Jolie, which has recently found new life on the streaming platform. Despite a dismal 28% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a lukewarm reception during its theatrical run, the film is suddenly drawing the attention of a modern audience—one that’s perhaps more open to its quirky charm and existential heart.

A Different Kind of Rom-Com

At first glance, Life or Something Like It seems like a standard early-2000s rom-com. Jolie plays Lanie Kerrigan, a Seattle-based television reporter with platinum blonde hair, a meticulously curated life, and a high-powered career path that appears to be heading in one direction—up. But her controlled world is shaken when a homeless street prophet named...

The Weird MTV Sketch Comedy Series That Alex Winter Made Before Freaked
Image
Alex Winter's and Tom Stern's bizonkers comedy film "Freaked" opened to almost no fanfare in October of 1993. Made for a budget of $12 million, it earned a paltry $29,000 at the box office before slipping into the deepest crevices of obscurity, seemingly forever. Luckily, the film was eventually rediscovered by enterprising weirdoes on VHS, and its cult began to grow. By the late 2000s, "Freaked" had been salvaged, making regular appearances on the midnight movie circuit. These days, it is deeply beloved by about as wide an audience as it will ever attract. It was never going to be mainstream; it's too wild and weird for that. And, frankly, thank the Lord.

"Freaked" is about a former child star named Ricky Coogan (Winter) who takes a lucrative financial deal to promote an environmentally dangerous fertilizer in the Central American nation of Santa Flan. While there, he, his friend Ernie (Michael Stoyanov...

Angelina Jolie's Forgotten Rom-Com Flop Is Finding Fans On Netflix Two Decades Later
Image
Somewhere amid the mounds of "content" on Netflix's servers are some pretty good romantic comedies. The streamer isn't too bad when it comes to this particular genre, offering everything from beloved '90s classics such as "Notting Hill" to more modern hits such as Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney's frisky and fun "Anyone But You." Sadly, "Life or Something Like It" probably won't be making any lists of the best Netflix rom-coms anytime soon — though there might be hope yet.

What on earth is "Life or Something Like It?" Well, that sort of gets to the issue with this movie, which is that nobody saw it when it debuted in theaters back in 2002. Starring Angelina Jolie and Edward Burns, the film follows a reporter who interviews a supposed prophet, only to be told that her demise is imminent and that she's wasting her life. Yes, this is a rom-com,...

Luther Sloan and Death turn 75, or, rather, William Sadler does
Image
It’s hard to believe, but both Luther Sloan and Death are turning 75 years old. Well, truth be told, they may not be, but the man who played both is. The talented character actor William Sadler will celebrate his 75th birthday on April 13.

Sadler memorably portrayed the wily and secretive Section 31 operative Luther Sloan in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes “Inquisition,” “Inter Arma Emin Silent Leges,” and “Extreme Measures.” Section 31, of course, went on to also figure prominently in subsequent Star Trek productions, most recently the Michelle Yeoh vehicle, Star Trek: Section 31. Sloan died by suicide in “Extreme Measures,” which premiered on May 19, 1999, during DS9’s seventh and final season.

During an interview with StarTrek.com in 2010, that he likened Sloan to Oliver North, a soldier and National Security Council staffer who, in the 1980s, became embroiled in what is referred to as the Iran-Contra Affair. “(Sloan) does what needs to be done,...

30 Years Ago, Disney's Goofy Box Office Misfire Birthed A Generational Cult Classic
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"'A Goofy Movie' is probably the most unexpected Disney film to have ever garnered cult classic status." Those are the words of Lex Briscuso writing for /Film in 2022, and she had a point. Released in 1995, the film is centered on Goofy, who was, for decades, a supporting character in the larger Disney animated universe. Yet, 30 years ago, he got to take center stage in a theatrical feature film that is a father/son tale, a road trip comedy, a musical, a love story, and at times perhaps the best animated concert film ever made.

It runs in defiance of what we often associate with a classic Disney animated movie. It also resonated with the generation of '90s kids who grew up with it,...

Lionsgate Lays Out Its Box Office Comeback Plan at CinemaCon With Help From The Weeknd
Image
Lionsgate had a flop-filled year in 2024, and it would like to leave it in the rear-view mirror. Fortunately, the turnaround is already underway after a modestly successful winter, and now the studio is looking at a brighter 2025, which it laid out in full to movie theater owners at CinemaCon on Tuesday.

The presentation was filled with a flurry of announcements of production greenlights and first-look deals, as well as onstage interviews by Lionsgate’s film chairman Adam Fogelson with stars and directors of the studio’s upcoming attractions.

It was all capped off with Jenna Ortega, co-star of The Weeknd’s upcoming music concept film “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” introducing the cinema-loving pop star to an auditorium of thrilled exhibitors to perform a pair of songs, including his 2020 smash hit “Blinding Lights.”

Lionsgate is also going all in on as much “John Wick” as fans could ever want, announcing that, yes,...

How ‘Bill & Ted’ Shaped Keanu Reeves’ Legendary Career

Image Source: Amazon Not many things are as rad as the weird humor, wacky characters, and carefree adventure of the Bill & Ted movies. But for Keanu Reeves, who played Ted “Theodore” Logan, these movies weren’t just fun – they changed his life. Keanu’s big break came with Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. It launched him into stardom and set him up for a career packed with legendary roles. From the action-packed Point Break and Speed to the game-changing Matrix trilogy and the unstoppable John Wick franchise, it all started with two dudes traveling through time in a phone booth. By the time the 1991 sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, came out, Keanu was already reflecting on just how much the first film had shaped his life. Forget 'John Wick 5,' the Best Move Keanu Reeves' Action Franchise Could Make Is Already in the Works
Image
Keanu Reeves has become one of the most beloved actors working. He's done everything from comedy with the Bill & Ted movies, to becoming an action star thanks to Speed, The Matrix, and the John Wick franchise. We joke about how he never seems to age, but the truth, as hard as it is to believe, is that Keanu Reeves is now 60, and his days of throwing his body around on film sets for our enjoyment are coming to an end sooner rather than later. Now, however, there is the news that John Wick: Chapter 5 is happening despite the fact that the character was very much dead the last time we saw him. If producers insist on resurrecting him, it's time to take it easy on Reeves and push John Wick in an entirely different direction: animation. The good news is that it's already happening.

31 Years Ago, This Keanu Reeves Film Became an Even Bigger Box Office Success Than John Wick
Image
Keanu Reeves is a national treasure. An indelible performer, he's actively improving with age, putting his stoic gravitas to spectacular effect as cinema's greatest action hero. Fans fell in love with him in The Matrix, heralding Neo as a modern pop culture icon. However, when critics took issue with Reeves' limited range, he reinvented himself with The John Wick franchise. As the Baba Yaga, Keanu Reeves is a harbinger of death, carrying himself like an icy specter of relentless bloodshed. Suffice it to say, the role cemented his status as a warrior without equal. That being said, Keanu wasn't always the action-savant his reputation suggests.

Released in 1994, Speed is a first-rate thrill ride rarely seen on the big screen nowadays. The premise is simple yet brilliant: There's a bomb on a bus, and if it goes below 50 Mph, it will blow. The result is an immaculate piece of cinematic craft...

April 1 Will Be a Totally Excellent Day for Bill & Ted Fans
Image
It's unfortunate the Wyld Stallyns was a fictional band, it could have been the world's greatest rock icon. Cult fans have a chance to relive their adventures when the Bill & Ted trilogy streams for free next month, on Tubi.

Tubi is streaming the Bill & Ted film trilogy for free on Apr. 1. Fans can binge watch Excellent Adventure, Bogus Journey, and Face the Music, and then hope to see for the teased fourth movie. The series revolved around its titular characters' time-traveling quests to foster a Wyld Stallyns Utopia. 1989's Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was a box office hit, ensuring the 1991 would be greenlighted. Bogus Journey flopped, but it established a cult following that clamored for a followup; that was fulfilled 29 years later in 2020's Face the Music. Lead stars Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves played Bill and Ted to a tee, self-aware, audacious, and carefree.

Keanu Reeves Action Thriller 'Street Kings' Finds Free Streaming Success
Image
Long before he was the dog-loving assassin John Wick, the feeling towards Keanu Reeves from both critics and audiences was less than ideal. While everyone is now fully aware of how breathtaking the actor and action star truly is, this was not always the case, as the response to his largely panned 2008 crime thriller, which has now found success thanks to streaming, demonstrates.

Directed by Training Day and The Beekeeper filmmaker David Ayer, the action thriller Street Kings finds Keanu Reeves in the lead as a grieving cop who turns to violence and alcohol following his wife’s death. Starring Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie, Chris Evans, Common, and The Game alongside Reeves, Street Kings is now jumping in and out of the top 10 on the free streaming platform, Tubi, and you can check out the official synopsis for the thriller below.

10 Best Movies Set In Arizona, Ranked
Image
Depending on who you ask, Arizona is known as The Grand Canyon State and The Copper State. But if you ask us, it should also be called The Grand Cinema State or The Celluloid State, based on its proud filmmaking history. Given its proximity to Hollywood and stunning scenery that stretches for miles in every direction, Arizona has been the filming location for westerns, science fiction films, and pretty much every genre under the desert sun. In fact, Old Tucson Studios is known as the "Hollywood In The Desert," and was the site of movies and TV shows like "The Bells of St. Mary's, "Rio Bravo," "Gunsmoke," "Little House on the Prairie," and "Three Amigos!"

You're probably thinking, "Wait a minute, wasn't 'Three Amigos!' set in Mexico, 'Rio Bravo' in Texas, 'Bells of St. Mary's in the inner city?" Yep, you're right on all counts. From "Planet of the Apes,...
