Kip Moore Takes Accountability for a Breakup in New Song ‘Bad Spot’
Image
Kip Moore will follow up the Eighties vibes of his 2023 album Damn Love with the intensely personal project Solitary Tracks. Set for release Feb. 28, it marks Moore’s first album for Virgin Music Group.

The Georgia country singer-songwriter previews Solitary Tracks with the new single “Bad Spot,” one of 23 songs on the album (and the only one he didn’t write). In “Bad Spot,” a Casey Beathard composition, Moore laments the dissolution of a romance and takes ownership of his actions in the breakup: “I lost you in a bad spot,...

The 15 Best Episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988)
What’s most shocking about the fact that it’s been 35 years since Mystery Science Theater 3000 began its run on Ktma in Minneapolis-St. Paul is the fact that it’s been only 35 years. Sporting a premise that’s gained added resonance since Covid redefined what it’s like to watch movies in isolation, the series has existed long enough—and in enough iterations—as to feel almost impervious to time, endlessly redefining itself as technology and media consumption mutate and grow, and, more frequently, as circumstances necessitate.

While the show’s hook—a human and their robots joke their way through bad movies—suggests a cynical outlook, its overriding imagination leaves room enough to enjoy both the films being watched and the jokes made at their expense. The classics that MST3K has yielded far exceed the limitations of this list’s format—to say nothing of the multitude of grace notes contained within,...

Chris Evans Reveals Why He Hesitated Before Taking Captain America Role
Image
“I can do this all day.” The first time Chris Evans delivered that line, then in the form of stick-thin pre-Super Soldier Serum Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger, fans knew that Marvel had found its Cap. After live-action misfires that saw Reb Brown and Matt Salinger, son of Catcher in the Rye author J.D. Salinger, throw Captain America‘s mighty shield, Evans proved that he could play the famously upright character without any cheesiness.

But Evans initially stalled taking the part after realizing he wouldn’t just be doing this all day. He’d be doing it as long as Marvel wanted him, which resulted in eleven film appearances (including a cameo in Thor: The Dark World) between 2011 and 2019.

In a recent breakdown of his most important roles, Evans told GQ that he knew about Marvel’s “big plans, that the goal was to create this tapestry...

Review: Rifftrax Live – Star Raiders
Previously on ComicMix, we mentioned talked about how friend of ComicMIx and legendary comics creator Mike Grell makes an appearance in the latest movie that the RIfftrax crew did live, Star Raiders. While it’s no Space Mutiny, Star Raiders has a lot to offer. I’ll be getting into that in the next paragraph though, so bare with me.

For those not in the know, Star Raiders is a Casper Van Dien starring science fiction romp put together with a modest budget. Though principle photography was finished in 2014, the team went to Kickstarter in 2016 to help offset the post production costs that ended up $40,000 over budget. Earlier this year, Star Raiders would appear on Kickstarter again through Rifftrax for their 2019 live riffing roster and to celebrate 10 years of Rifftrax.

Okay, okay, but what do I think about the movie? I was just getting to that I promise!

Basically, Casper Van Dien...

New Photo of Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt in Mystery Science Theater 3000
A few weeks ago we got our first look at the new cast of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival series. Today we have a new photo that focuses on Felicia Day as Kinga Forrester, who is the daughter of the original mad scientist Clayton Forrester, and Patton Oswalt, who plays the Son of TV’s Frank.

Netflix picked up 14 episodes of the series, which was crowdfunded on Kickstarter. They raised $5.7 million during their funding process. The series will premiere on Netflix on Friday, April 14th.

While we wait for the series to return, Netflix is currently streaming 20 episodes of the original series. Those episodes were revealed to include:

• Catalina Caper

• Eegah!

• Future War

• The Giant Gila Monster

• Hercules Against the Moon Men

• Horrors of Spider Island

• I Accuse My Parents

• Jack Frost

• Laserblast

• "Manos" The Hands of Fate

• Merlin’s Shop of Mystical Wonders

• Pod People

• Puma Man

• Santa Claus Conquers the Martians...

Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns! 5 episodes to get you started
facebook

twitter

google+

The MST3K Kickstarter campaign is up, running, and funding episodes. If you're new to MST3K, here's a suggestion for getting started...

Turn down your lights (where applicable) - Mystery Science Theater 3000 is making a comeback. The Us series poking fun at bad movies from the comfort of a satellite several miles above the Earth ran for eleven years from 1988-1999, and creator Joel Hodgson has been raising funds to resume the experiment via Kickstarter. The new episodes will star The Nerdist’s Jonah Ray as the hapless human, with the internet’s Felicia Day down to play the evil scientist torturing Jonah with cheesy B-movies, with Patton Oswalt performing henchman duties.

As we write this, three new episodes have been funded, and a batch of six looks likely. However, Hodgson is hoping to reach $5.5 million and fund a full series of 12 new episodes, so if you...

7 Obscure Super Hero Films You Probably Haven’t Seen
We’re currently in a boom period for superhero films, with plenty more on the way. It’s the golden age for comic book fans. Characters like Wonder Woman, Dr. Strange and the Justice League are all coming to theaters, joining established franchises like Thor and Captain America. But some of you may not know that these characters all had live-action movies made about them before. Cinelinx looks at 7 obscure super films you probably haven’t seen.

#1. Doctor Strange: In 1978, a two-hour made-for-tv movie aired about the master of the mystic arts. Dr. Strange was meant to be a pilot for a proposed weekly CBS TV series. Peter Hooten played Doctor Strange and Jessica Walters played villainess Morgana Le Fey. CBS was already airing Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk and was trying to go for the hat trick, bringing the Doc to TV. However, it was not to be.

[Yuletide Terrors] Day 15: Elves
Throughout the month of December, we will be highlighting a film a day that has some tie into the holiday somehow. Some titles will be obvious, others won’t be. Some films will be good and, again, others won’t be. However, we think all titles are worth your time whether to give you chills inside your home or to make you drink more eggnog until you puke laughing.

Kirsten (Julie Austin) and her two friends meet in the woods for the inaugural meeting of the Sisters of Anti-Christmas. The holiday is over commercialized and insincere, plus they got lame gifts last year and it doesn’t look like it’ll snow this year. As far as real problems, Kirsten’s home life is a mess. Her dad is dead, her mom (Deanna Lund) hates her with a fiery passion, little brother is a pervert and Grandpa might be a Nazi.

Night Claws (2012)

Night Claws (2012)
If last year’s The Thing remake taught us anything, it’s that CGI just can’t beat good old-fashioned practical FX, especially when dealing with a creature feature. And for those who thought the Sasquatch’s day in the horror-movie sun was over, here’s Night Claws to say not Yeti. Directed by David A. Prior (Sledgehammer, Deadly Prey, Killer Workout), and starring a cool retro cast headed by Reb Brown (Yor, Hunter From The Future, infamous MST3K fave Space Mutiny) and Frank Stallone, Night Claws harks back to the days of bloodletting Bigfoot flicks such as 1982’s Night Of The Demon.

Hearing People Scream in Space: The Supercut
One of Hollywood's most celebrated taglines, from the Ridley Scott classic "Alien," tells us:  "In space, no one can hear you scream."

But anyone who's ever seen a proper sci-fi thriller will tell you that's not true at all.

Just watch "Event Horizon." Or "Sunshine." Or the brand new space haunter "Apollo 18." Even "Alien" itself.

So to all you future space travelers, use the footage above as a cautionary tale. Intergalactic exploration is f**king scary. And chances are there will be screaming. Lots and lots of screaming.

Movies Included (Click to Buy):

Galaxy Quest | Event Horizon | Black Hole | The Right Stuff | Planet of Vampires | Total Recall | Alien Resurrection | Armageddon | Sunshine | Alien 3 | Alien | Space Mutiny | Independence Day | Mission to Mars | Dark Star | Fire and Sky | Jason X | Wing Commander | 2001: A Space Odyssey | Supernova | Pandorum...

Sasquatchploitation goodness in Night Claws
Yep, that old silly Sasquatchploitation genre is still alive and kickin’ (hopefully like real life Bigfoots…why can’t we find them?) with Night Claws. The official website has a new poster and trailer for you all to enjoy.

Bigfoot is on the loose, and he’s pissed! A plus? Old school FX – no CGI.

Here’s the synopsis: “A small town is being terrorized by a killer Bigfoot. One that is bloodthirsty, vicious and kills without warning and without discrimination. A scientist by the name of Sarah Evans (Leilani Sarelle; Basic Instinct and Barbarians at the Gate) shows up to help the town’s sheriff (Reb Brown; Yor, the Hunter from the Future and Space Mutiny) and his deputy girlfriend Roberta (Sherrie Rose; King of the Kickboxers and Black Scorpion II: Aftershock) hunt this thing down and put an end to the killings. At the same time, Hunter Crawford...

Oh, Baby, Rowsdower Saves Us.
Nine minutes with Zap Rowsdower. Don't worry, baby. Zap will make all right. Zap has all the Vitamin Z you need.

All right, it's 9 minutes with Bruce J. Mitchell but he is still rocking that sweet, sweet 'stache.

And just because the Godtopus is a kind and loving deity, here's 9 more minutes with "The Final Sacrifice," arguably the greatest episode of MST3K.

"Mitchell" and "Space Mutiny" deserve a mention here as top episodes too. What? You're not familiar with David Ryder? It's your lucky night.

Jason Harris wanted to name his daughter "Smash Lampjaw," but his wife is a killjoy.

New Sasquatchploitation Night Claws a B-Movie Fan's Dream
What if Yor, the Hunter from the Future, Sharon Stone's lesbian lover from Basic Instinct, the star of a host of 80s/90s made-for-video action b-movies, the King of the Kickboxer's girlfriend, and Sylvester Stallone's brother got together to star in a new Sasquatchploitation flick called Night Claws from the director of such horror movies as Killer Workout and Mardi Gras for the Devil?

God willing the wait to answer that question won't be too long. Maybe you don't share my enthusiasm, but as a man with an unabashed soft spot for killer Bigfoot movies, the works of David and Ted Prior's Action International Pictures output, and several of the names announced for the cast, Night Claws is already high on my must-see list.

Undead Backbrain brings word that b-moviemaker David A. Prior is back in Alabama (where most of his past movies were filmed) to bring...

The Room – So Bad It’s Good (Kind Of)
On Saturday I had one of the funniest nights of my entire life. I went to see a film called The Room at The Prince Charles Cinema in London’s West End. The Prince Charles will always be a special place for me and thousands of people in and around London. It happens to be one of the few remaining indie cinemas in the world and a damn great place to watch films. Any cinema that can name Quentin Tarantino as a fan must be doing something right.

Anyway back to this wonderful film that I went to see. I have always loved to watch films that fall in the category

I am a huge fan of the cult Canadian television show Mystery Science Theatre 3000, which is about a scientist that runs experiments on a human by subjecting him to really awful movies. The...

TV: 20th Anniversary "Mystery Science Theater 3000" Box Set Hits Stores
In time for the holidays, the greatest cult TV show of all time, Mystery Science Theater 3000, is getting a 20th Anniversary Box Set treatment through Shout Factory. So if your 401(k) hasn’t been decimated to dimes yet, it’s time for fans to dip in and take advantage of this limited offer. And for those of you who aren’t fans (or God forbid, have never even heard of the show)…well, I guess I wouldn’t suggest you cough up the fifty bucks on a whim, but you should definitely get to your web browsers or run to a video store and get educated. You can even view entire episodes online for free: try Space Mutiny (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8590533394044637016). It’s a cult show for a reason (not for all tastes), but those attuned will love it.
