I saw this movie as a child, and I can still remember it. I won't mind seeing it again. I like it, as it is both funny and relaxing. Besides, it has wonderful landscapes and seascapes from Greece. Last but not least: beautiful Greek music. It is like going on a 90-minute holiday to Greece. I would go for it again.
The recipe, though, is genuine de Broca: a slapstick comedy in gorgeous settings with lots of action; but the ingredients are not of the required quality. The script is unbelievable, the action scenes are sluggish, and the characters are so much billhook-cut that the actors don't even try to save the film!
Too bad! There are many de Broca films which are fun to watch, this one is not one of them.
___ .
The dialogue is funny, witty and provides most of the humor of the film (sort of reminds me of 'You've got mail'). Being able to understand the original French soundtrack is a plus, cause a lot gets lost in the translation.
I also like the movie since it gives a funny overview of Greek life/politics quite unknown to many people who have visited the country as casual tourists.
If you want to see a funny movie without exploding cars, horror scenes and the like I highly recommend it.
I love the first part, but the sequel a bit more. It has some silliness, but I believe that's inherent in French films from that era. It wouldn't be a French comedy if the characters didn't feel compelled to scream at each other at the most unexpected moments. That's why we love these films.
One thing is certain. The story is simple, yet magnificent. The film is humorous, with dialogues that often make you laugh and cry at the same time. Unfortunately, I don't speak a word of French, so I can't watch it in the original language, but the voice actors really did a great job at the time.
The main characters are lovable, and the characterizations are really well done. And, of course, the beauty of the Greek land. All of this resulted in a truly good film.
In the end, this film is a perfect blend of French wit, timeless humor, and the stunning Greek scenery, making it a cinematic gem that ages like fine wine.

- QuizDuring the hotel scenes on the roof where they reappear wearing balaclavas, the footsteps of Philippe Noiret clearly break for real some roof tiles. A cracked roof tile may sound like a small concern but, if not repaired quickly, it can lead to major problems. Even minor damage to a roof tile can allow rainwater and wind to penetrate the roof structure, causing more damage, as well as leaks.
- BlooperIn the scene when a man tries to throw Lise out of the train you can see that the nature out there is a screen.
