When I refer to this film as "animal porn" I do not mean that in a derogatory way. I caught an on-campus screening of this film in the mid-1970's when I was an undergraduate at the University of Southern California, and it must be something special if it can stay in my mind for more than 35 years. I remember it as a beautifully composed film both in its photography and music. You just need to be warned in advance that if you are offended by graphic images of sexual intercourse and childbirth then you need to skip this film even if you can find a way to see it.
For now I suppose you need to add it to your "My Movies" wish list and catch a cable showing or be in the loop when we reach that state of post-Enlightenment such that the film will be available on DVD.

I saw this movie at a Saturday afternoon matinee in my early teens, and it has stuck with me ever since. It was made in an era where, unlike ours, sex was discussed as a natural part of life. It shows, in fairly graphic detail, the reproductive habits of everything from single-celled bacteria to elephants. And yes, it shows an actual human birth. While many would be offended by the sheer number of aroused animal genitalia shown, the intent of the film is purely educational. This is a film that every healthy, intelligent person should see.

"Birds do it Bees do it" is the most complete and educational movie ever made about the reproduction of life on Earth. This film covers courtship and reproduction of the lower life forms, exotic animals from around the world and domestic animals.
One problem, I have never been able to find this film on video. If anyone has any information, please pass it on.

My parents took me and my older brothers to see this film at a movie theater in Phoenix during the 1970's. Movies were a novelty for me at the time and what I saw in this movie (even as a child) was incredibly fascinating and amazing!!!
It showed and discussed reproduction as a natural part of life as well as, death and what happens after death. Seeing this film without any fear and the innocence of a child was a blessing. Because of it, I learned early on what happens to our physical bodies and how the "cycle of life" works and continues. I believe it's helped me accept the deaths of family members, friends and pets over the years.
Be aware, it is a graphic film but ultimately extremely educational!!! This is a film that every curious, intelligent person should see.

This amazing film is owned by cinemax and they show it in the wee hours a few times a year. Keep an eye out for it and set your vcr!
