Steve! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces Review
Image
Plot: Steve Martin is one of the most beloved and enigmatic figures in entertainment. “Steve! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces” dives into his extraordinary story from two distinct points of view, with companion documentaries that feature never-before-seen footage and raw insights into Steve’s personal and professional trials and triumphs. “Then” chronicles Steve Martin’s early struggles and meteoric rise to revolutionize standup before walking away at 35. “Now” focuses on the present day, with Steve Martin in the golden years of his career, retracing the transformation that led to happiness in his art and personal life.

Review: It pains me to think that a generation is growing up that does not hold Steve Martin in the same regard as generations past. At 78 years old, Martin was the biggest comedian of all time for some, a movie star for others, and one of the old guys from Only Murders in the Building for the rest.

Janis Ian Shares Her Own Creepy Bill Cosby Story
Bill Cosby
In response to New York's interview with 35 women accusing Bill Cosby of sexual assault, folk singer Janis Ian has come forward with her own story of poor treatment at Cosby's hands. "I have a personal stake" in the story, Ian revealed on her Facebook page. "No, I was not sexually bothered by Bill Cosby. We met because he was curious about me." At the time Ian was 16 years old, promoting her controversial interracial love song "Society's Child." On the eve of her first TV performance on The Smothers Brothers Show, she fell asleep in her female chaperone's lap, a fact that Cosby apparently noticed. "A while later," Ian writes, "my manager called me into her office. 'What happened at the Smothers Brothers show?!' I had no idea what she was talking about, and said so. 'Well, no one else on TV is willing to have you on. Not...

What It's Like To Party With Amy Poehler & Adam Scott
Adam Lustick
This is what it's like to sit at a restaurant table with Amy Poehler and Adam Scott during the after-party for "A.C.O.D" (which stands for "Adult Children of Divorce"), the pair's well-received indie comedy that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.

It was a popular table. More than once, onlookers approached and tried to talk with Poehler and Scott. (I can only imagine this happens to them a lot.) One man, an employee at the restaurant, told Poehler that he'd worked with her at another restaurant, in Chicago, circa 1994 -- long before Amy Poehler became Amy Poehler. Poehler recognized her former co-worker immediately, even though she hadn't seen him in 19 years.

Poehler and Scott, who star on "Parks and Recreation" as the newly engaged Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt, enjoy an easy rapport with one another. (Their timing was so impeccable that Poehler almost had me believing...

The brothers starred in their own '60s CBS show and transformed themselves from clean-cut comics into counterculture stars. Their shows featured performances from bands such as The Who and The Doors, while Steve Martin and Rob Reiner were among the writing staff for The Smothers Brothers Show. Clooney and his producing partner (more)...

George Clooney
Clooney Developing Smothers Brothers Pic
George Clooney
George Clooney is a big fan of cinematic nostalgia, particularly when it involves television. We’ve seen it in his career before with the likes of Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind and Good Night, And Good Luck. Now it appears he’s channelling the past again, developing a film based on the lives of ‘60s comedians Tom and Dicky Smothers. If you’ve never heard of them, we sympathise, and offer this brief info-blast. The Smothers Brothers show ran between 1967 and 1969, shoving boundaries as American culture erupted in change around them. While they began as easy gagmen, they soon evolved into counterculture troublemakers. As well helping to introduce musical acts such as The Who, Jefferson Airplane and The Doors, their writing staff boasted the talents of Steve Martin and Rob Reiner, among others. Such was the change in their material over time that they ended up fired by Us network...

Writer Sues Disney Over 'Hannah Montana'
A comedy writer is suing Walt Disney claiming he was the brainchild behind hit TV show Hannah Montana. Buddy Sheffield filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday alleging breach of contract, breach of confidence, unfair competition and unjust enrichment. Sheffield - who has written for The Smothers Brothers Show and Dolly - claims he pitched an idea for a television series called Rock And Roland to the Disney Channel in 2001. According to the lawsuit, the story was about a junior high school student who lived a secret double life as a rock star. Sheffield claims Disney plagiarized the idea for their show Hannah Montana and is demanding a share of the revenue. Disney bosses were unavailable for comment.
