Colin Eadon hosts a number academics and artists at a country house, who are lecturing at the Corporation Conference Centre. Wyn Lloyd who is recording guests is suspicious about Paul Parker's absence and some very cheap furniture.

Marika notices Parker is missing when her transport fails to arrive while Carrie Stone's car has been disabled. Dr. Jackson discovers poisonous bait on the parameter but it's too late to stop Jonathan Bross's dog from dying.

Jackson is suspected of killing Bross's dog but is alibied by Eadon's wife. Marsh's ankle is caught in a man trap placed in the grounds. At midnight a mortician arrives asking to see the deceased having received a call fifteen minutes ago.

Lloyd's reveals Bross called the undertaker. Marsh finds a bug in his room. Eadon offers shares to the Deep Company. Marika Rau lays her plans for a fraud on Berdosso, an illegal front for the Deep Company. Lloyd is shot by a sniper.

Jackson confesses he is dying of cancer, caused by working at the Deep's plant Doonlorn which suffered a radiation spill. Marsh and Rau head for New Zealand put their scam into action. Dr. Lloyd finds the dead body of Parker.

Mary Eadon and Parker had been removing antiques and replacing them with reproductions. Parker stole £4 million from the Deep Corporation. His partner in crime Marika Rau returns but is exposed and kills herself while Marsh escapes.
