ViacomCBS Networks International-owned U.K. broadcaster Channel 5 is strengthening its factual slate with six new commissions focusing on real-life crime stories.
Vice Studios will produce forensic psychology-led three-part series “Jack the Ripper: The Hidden Victims,” where, from a modern-day incident room, experts will re-examine evidence from the 1800s as well as providing new perspective and context into Victorian London in the style of a live linear investigation.
ITN Productions will produce cinematic style six-part murder series “Manhunt,” and three-part docu-drama “The Railway Murders” that recounts a series of attacks on young women at railway stations in 1980s Britain, examining how the case shaped modern policing.
Firecracker Films will produce two-part “Luke Mitchell” that will reopen the case files to one of Scotland’s most brutal murders, while October Films will produce “Worboys: The New Revelations” that tells the story of a prolific sexual predator.

It’s known as the “Strictly curse” — Strictly Come Dancing’s record for disrupting relationships because celebrities fall for their professional partners. Now, the BBC is going to fully embrace the chemistry-creating element of its famous dance show in a new BBC Three format, working titled Dance Crush.
BBC Studios will make the show, which will pair up professional dancers with novices to see if the connection they form on the dance floor translates into chemistry off the dance floor in a bid to score a hot date and avoid elimination from the show. The BBC said there will be a series of weekly challenges, stunning routines, and dramatic eliminations.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday, BBC Three controller Fiona Campbell said a pilot has been filmed overseas and the format “tested really positively” with viewers. Dance Crush will be executive produced for BBC Studios by Kelly Lynn,...

ViacomCBS’s UK network has announced that it will work with seven Bame-owned production companies on new shows following the launch of its diverse indie initiative last September.

Big Deal Films: Greatest Christmas Toys (1 x 120-minutes) and The Greatest Toys Of All Time (3 x 60), reflecting on the UK’s obsession with toys through the years.
Afro-Mic: Scenic Ireland: Coast to Coast (2 x 60), which explores and celebrates Ireland’s coastline.
Meridian Line Films: A yet-to-be-titled two-part documentary taking viewers behind the scenes of one of Britain’s most popular attractions.
Chatterbox: Sally Lindsay’s Poshest Homes Sleepover (3 x 60), which promises to go inside some of Britain’s plushest homes.

Chicago – Oscar. The holy day of the film industry. While other film pundits are scrambling for perspective – who made it and who didn’t – we’re giving thanks for the five 2010 films and personalities that didn’t get a nomination for Oscar night.
Whenever the schadenfreude attitude of “glad” comes up, there is always an equal and opposite “sad” feeling that it didn’t happen. For each notable glad they weren’t nominated, there will be a mitigating “backlash”.
5. Anne Hathaway for Best Actress, “Love and Other Drugs”

Amazingly, the popular Anne did receive a nomination at the Golden Globes for this film, playing Maggie Murdock, a sparkly victim of Parkinson’s Disease. At the same time, she was wooing a Viagra salesman name Jamie (Jack Gyllenhaal), who obviously lacked the drugs she was seeking. She also introduced herself...

.Not available on DVD. column since it began nine months ago and I realize that 19 of the previous 24 films I.ve written about are from the decade of the 1970.s. It.s not that there aren.t worthy forgotten films of the 50.s, 60.s or 80.s that have yet to see life in digital format, it.s just that, being born in 1961, it was the .70.s when I came of age and I.ve always had a fixation with the many films I saw at the drive-in in the last half of that decade. Besides, only from the politically incorrect .70.s could have come a disco musical comedy about a woman with a talking vagina.
Chatterbox, made in 1977, is no porn film (though bare breasts abound), but a silly R-Rated comedy based on a ridiculous but titillating situation that today doesn.t seem at all sleazy or dirty but really funny and kind of innocent.
