Immer Ärger mit den Paukern

If I want to see a good pure German film, then I have to travel to the old times and choose one before 1989. After 1989, I did not meet a single film that earned me more than 6 points on IMDB. If some manage to score 7 or 8 points, it is German co-productions.

This film with Roy Black, Uschi Glas and Georg Thomalla has a current IMDB rating of less than 4 points. But from me he gets a whopping 8 points. Why? Because in this film there is still what I miss most in the German movies today: real fun.

And it is the films with Georg Thomalla from 1965 to 1975 that offer this fun that I am so lacking today. So I chose the genre "fun comedy" for myself, because many supposed comedies show no fun at all. Maximum they show the essence of Woody Allen, with his sweet lemons.

The film "Always Trouble with the Teachers" may not give much in terms of content, but in a fun spirit it greatly surpasses other films that call themselves comedies and yet are not.

If you don't like this movie, you'll probably like the non-funny movies of today and be so lemony on it.

"Immer Ärger" with the German comedy and especially in the genre of the "adolescent students" comedy. This genre became very popular in the late 60's and early 70's and could be considered a German mainstream answer to the then movement of rebellious youth, though the rebellion of the students never goes any further than kissing before marriage and dancing on the school desk. As such this genre shows only nondescript, worthy and conventional boys and girls.

This film is a classic in its genre (and only there), triggered quite some likewise films (as the notorious "Die Lümmel von der 1. Bank" series) and is also standard for the poor execution of films in this genre; this film is slightly better made than others (that is: I have seen much worse), but the direction is poor and has no sense of timing and things like editing and cinematography (with that terrible zooming) seem to be that of film students on their first day in college. But it should also be remembered that already in general technical standards (had) deteriorated in the German mainstream cinema during the 60's and the 70's.

This prototype lets the viewer endure some of the regulars in many casts: Roy Black who can not be refrained from singing and has the ability to drain of any intelligence from the viewer, Uschi Glas who is as sexy as glass, Peter Weck and Georg Thomalla who both are the only ones who think they are funny. Maybe some of the humour would have worked with good direction.

The film is aimed at (young) grown-ups, but the film's IQ never surpasses that of a 4 year-old.
