Ridley Scott's New Movie Is Dethroned on Streaming by Apple's Sci-Fi Series With 97% on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
There's a new No. 2 on Apple TV+. Echo Valley, the new Ridley Scott-produced thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Julianne Moore, has been kicked to third place by the new sci-fi series Murderbot.

Per FlixPatrol, Murderbot has jumped up three spots on Apple TV+'s Top 10 Overall list to No. 2, knocking Echo Valley down one spot to No. 3. However, Murderbot was unable to dethrone the reigning champion, Stick, the new Owen Wilson sports comedy series about a washed-up pro who turns to a young gifted golfer to turn his life around, which is holding onto that No. 1 spot. Of course, Echo Valley is still No. 1 when it comes to just movies on Apple TV+, while Stick and Murderbot are No. 1 and No. 2 for TV shows.

Murderbot is based on Martha Wells' The Murderbot Diaries, with the first season adapting All Systems Red, the 2017 novella that kicked off the sci-fi series.

Sydney Sweeney Details “Crazy” 30-Pound Transformation To Play Christy Martin In Biopic: “My Body Was Completely Different”
Image
Sydney Sweeney is sharing the “crazy” transformation and preparation that went into portraying pioneering female boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic set for release later this year.

Speaking to W Magazine for the actress’ new cover story, the film’s director David Michôd said the Emmy-nominated Euphoria star gained more than 30 pounds to play the athlete, who put female boxing on the map in the ’90s, covered Sports Illustrated and fought on Mike Tyson’s undercard.

“I loved it,” the Anyone but You star said of the behind-the-scenes training. “I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.”

Sweeney, who also donned brown contact lenses and a brunette wig fashioned into a mullet-like hairstyle for the role,...

Mikey Madison Takes Over Sydney Sweeney’s Role in A24’s Adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s Best Story
Image
Mikey Madison is in negotiations to star in one of Edgar Allan Poe's most chilling tales. The AnoraOscar-winner is in talks to star in a reimagining of The Masque of the Red Death, Poe's 1842 tale of decadence, disease, and decay. The dual role was previously set to be played by Madison's Once Upon a Time In Hollywood castmate Sydney Sweeney, who has left the project. The Hollywood Reporter says that the film is due to shoot late this year or early next year.

In the film, Madison would play a pair of twin sisters. One is a princess who retreats with the rest of the aristocracy into a mad prince's castle, while a devastating plague, the Red Death, devastates the countryside. The other twin is hidden among the lower classes, and sees firsthand how the Red Death (which makes its victims agonizingly bleed from every orifice before...

'Madame Web' Star Dakota Johnson Says Marvel Superhero Flop Wasn't Her Fault
Image
Dakota Johnson reflects on what went wrong with Madame Web, the 2024 Sony Pictures Marvel adaptation. When the plans for Madame Web were first announced, the film faced much trepidation. It was another in Sony Pictures' attempts to make a Spider-Man spin-off shared universe without the webhead. The film's trailer became widely mocked, and when the movie opened in theaters on Feb. 14, 2024, it became a box office and critical flop. It was only saved from the embarrassment of being the lowest-grossing Spider-Man spin-off thanks to Kraven the Hunter.

Speaking with People to promote her latest film, Materialist, Johnson talked about what happened on Madame Web. "It wasn’t my fault," Johnson said, laughing alongside Materialist director Celine Song. Johnson went on, hinting that the Madame Web film she signed on for was not the finished product and that it was tampered with by studio executives. Johnson said:

Tom Cruise’s 9% Rated Movie Is Prime for a Remake With Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell That I Want Now
Image
Alright, folks, I know Tom Cruise’s Cocktail has a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, but hear me out: that movie’s ripe for a remake, and um, I want it yesterday. It’s got all the bones of a chaotic, sexy, bar-slinging fever dream, and no one’s better suited to stir up that kind of cinematic mess than Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.

They’ve already got the chemistry, and this story needs exactly that kind of hot, chaotic energy. Cruise’s version may’ve flopped with critics, but a Gen Z twist could turn this into the cray-cray, neon-lit romance it was always meant to be.

Why Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney should stir up Tom Cruise’s Cocktail remake next Tom Cruise in a still from Cocktail | Credits: Maddock Films

Cocktail might have a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, but that just makes it the perfect kind of chaotic ‘80s...

Madame Web Star Sydney Sweeney Says Edgar Wright's Barbarella Remake Is "Gonna Be Worth The Wait"
Image
The critical and commercial success of movies like Anyone But You and Immaculate meant it was easy for Sydney Sweeney to shrug off Madame Web. She's also confessed that starring in the Marvel movie was a means to an end when it came to strengthening her relationship with Sony Pictures.

Edgar Wright's Barbarella remake is one of many projects Sweeney is attached to as her star in Hollywood continues to rise (both as an actor and producer). However, it's been three years since we first learned the movie was in development.

Wright is busy shooting The Running Man, while Sweeney has everything from Split Fiction to The Housemaid and her untitled Christy Martin biopic on the way. So, has Barbarella fallen by the wayside as her schedule becomes increasingly jam-packed?

"I was just in London and had a meeting to discuss the story and the script," Sweeney tells Empire (via SFFGazette.

Toru Nakahara will produce for Sega and Sega Corporation president/COO Shuji Utsumi will oversee the project on behalf of Sega. Polar and Arachnid scribe Jayson Rothwell is penning the script, but the story is currently being kept under wraps. It’s a racing game.

Robert McGinnis, Creator of Iconic James Bond Posters, Dies at 99
Image
Painter and illustrator Robert E. McGinnis, who created sexy posters for the James Bond franchise as well as numerous other films, magazine illustrations and book covers, died March 10 in Old Greenwich, Conn. He was 99.

McGinnis, whose death was posted on Legacy.com, was known for his swinging sixties pin-up girl-style images of bikini-clad women consorting with manly men. Models including Shere Hite, author of “The Hite Report,” modeled for the idealized figure that became known as “The McGinnis Woman.”

His first movie poster was for “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” featuring the illustration of Audrey Hepburn smoking a cigarette in a long holder with her cat wrapped around her neck. He used his wife and family cat as models. “You didn’t have to do much with her. She’s so perfect,” he reportedly said about Hepburn.

Jane Fonda Calls for Actors to “Resist” and “Project an Inspiring View of the Future” Amid Current Political Climate
Image
Jane Fonda may be 87, but she’s not about to slow down any time soon.

The two-time Oscar winner, who received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award at the 2025 SAG Awards, said she saw the honor and the enthusiastic reception she received from the Hollywood stars in the audience, who gave her a standing ovation, as more of a “go-girl kick-ass” form of encouragement instead of something being given to someone toward the end of their life.

“Which is good because I’m not done,” Fonda said.

During her speech, Fonda looked back on her “really weird” acting career — including roles in Klute, Coming Home, Barbarella, 9 to 5, Grace and Frankie, Monster in Law, The Newsroom, 80 for Brady and Book Club and its sequel — and expressed support for the opportunities given to her onscreen.

“Acting gave me a chance to play angry women with opinions,” she said of...

Jane Fonda Offers ‘Good Luck’ to Teams Behind Remakes of ‘Barbarella’ and ‘9 to 5’
Image
In accepting the Life Achievement Award at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 23, actress and activist Jane Fonda will be cementing a legacy that surpasses even her own father’s, screen legend Henry Fonda. It’s a well-deserved honor for a talent who has continued to reshape herself over the course of her more than six-decade career, but in regards to the reshaping of some of her most famous work, Fonda remains skeptical.

When asked how she felt about the current remakes underway for “Barbarella” and “9 to 5” during a recent interview with Vogue, Fonda simply responded, “Good luck.” Despite talent like Edgar Wright and Sydney Sweeney working on the former and Jennifer Aniston and Diablo Cody piecing together the latter, Fonda knows the difficulties of striking gold twice.

“Dolly [Parton], Lily [Tomlin], and I have tried to make a remake of ‘9 to 5’ for quite some time, but...

Jane Fonda Has Two Word Response When Asked About 'Barbarella' & '9 to 5' Remakes

Jane Fonda is addressing the Barbarella and 9 To 5 remakes that are currently in the works.

Then last year, it was revealed that Jennifer Aniston and Diablo Cody are working on a remake of the 1980 movie 9 to 5, which Jane starred in alongside Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton.

In a new interview, Jane was asked about the two remakes, and she had a very blunt response.

Keep reading to find out more…Vogue‘s journalist asked Jane, “Edgar Wright recently signed on to direct a remake of Barbarella starring Sydney Sweeney, and Jennifer Aniston is developing a remake of 9 to 5 with Diablo Cody. What are your thoughts on some of your iconic films being reinterpreted?”

When Sydney Sweeney Almost Got A Breast Reduction Before Her Mum Stepped In: “So Glad I Didn’t”
Image
Here’s How Sydney Sweeney Feels About Not Going For Breast Reduction Surgery (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Sydney Sweeney hit us with some unexpected teenage tea. Back in high school, the Euphoria star wasn’t feeling her curves—specifically, her chest. She even had a whole plan to shrink them as soon as she turned 18. Yeah, she was that serious about it.

But then came the ultimate mum intervention. According to Lad Bible, the actress’ mom straight-up told her, “Don’t do it. You’ll regret it in college.” And guess what? She nailed it. Looking back, Sydney couldn’t agree more. “I’m so glad I didn’t,” she said during an interview with Glamour in 2023. “I like them. They’re my best friends.”

But it wasn’t always smooth sailing. Teenage Sydney Sweeney wasn’t vibing with her body. “I went through that process of covering my body up at such a young age,...

Before Sydney Sweeney's Remake of This Comic Book Movie, You've Got To Watch the Trippy Jane Fonda Original
Image
Science fiction is a genre that's evolved in leaps and bounds over the years, especially when it comes to film. The genre's ripe for telling stories about the human condition, but it can also provide viewers with some great escapism, and one of the biggest examples would have to be Barbarella. Based on Jean-Claude Forest's comics, Barbarella stars Jane Fonda as the titular explorer, who has a series of increasingly erotic encounters with the galaxy's inhabitants. It was directed by Fonda's husband at the time, Roger Vadim, and wound up surviving an incredibly turbulent production to become a cult classic. With Barbarella now available to stream on Paramount+, it's worth checking out - especially since a remake with Sydney Sweeney is in the works.

The Masque Of The Red Death | Sydney Sweeney set for A24 film
Charlie Polinger
Charlie Polinger will write and direct a ‘darkly comedic’ spin on The Masque Of The Red Death, with Sydney Sweeney set to star.

A24’s The Masque Of The Red Death is set to go before cameras at some point this year and according to Deadline, Sydney Sweeney is top of the studio’s list to headline the project. It’ll be the feature debut of Charlie Polinger, a New York filmmaker and theatre director.

Based on a dark short story from Edgar Allen Poe, The Masque Of The Red Death centres on a group of privileged nobles who lock themselves away for endless revelry while a plague decimates the outside world. Given Poe’s gothic horror style, you can imagine that not everything goes to plan for the wealthy partygoers.

Whether its Parasite, Triangle Of Sadness or The Menu, we’ve seen a surge of ‘eat the rich’ films...

A Toy Story Character Was Inspired By A Creepy Twilight Zone Episode
Image
In Josh Cooley's "Toy Story 4," Woody (Tom Hanks) falls out of his family's Rv on a road trip, and falls in with a group of lost toys. As audiences know from the previous "Toy Story" movies, toys are only happy when children play with them, and lost toys have found a way to travel throughout a neighborhood's multiple public parks, burying themselves in sandboxes right when certain preschools break for the day. Lost toys live in a strange state of chaotic bliss.

Toys that don't get played with, meanwhile, become bitter and evil. This was true of the old prospector Stinky Pete (Kelsey Grammer) in 1999's "Toy Story 2," and it's certainly true of Gabby Gabby (Christina Hendricks) in "Toy Story 4." Gabby is a decades-old talking doll that has wound up in a small-town antique store. No one will buy Gabby, however, because her inner voice box broke many years ago.

Danger: Diabolik (1968) Movie Review: Cult Master Mario Bava Takes On An Altogether Different, Anarchic, and Decidedly More European Comic Book Adaptation
''Father of Italian Horror Film'' Mario Bava was the greatest Italian Horror Filmmaker in the 20th. century who mostly known for Black Sunday (1960) and A Bay of Blood (1971).

A Still in the extended version of the film.
With comic book adaptations dominating the film industry today, let’s take a trip back to a time when they were neither reputable nor among the most expensive films ever made. For fans of cult movies, Mario Bava hardly needs any introduction. Since his debut directing the gorgeously gothic “Black Sunday,” he innovated several genres, including the Giallo, with “The Girl Who Knew Too Much,” paving the way for the slasher film, the horror anthology with his masterful tryptic “Black Sabbath” (In the process giving the godfathers of heavy metal their moniker), and even science fiction – the fingerprints of his “Planet of the Vampires” are all over Ridley Scott’s “Alien” and “Prometheus.” “Danger: Diabolik” was produced during the height of the James Bond and “Batman 66” craze to cash in on the cult Eurospy genre. But whereas contemporary comic book adaptations center around superheroes, Bava’s world is an altogether different one.

Sydney Sweeney Calls Out 'Fake' Women Supporting Women Sentiment in Hollywood
Image
Acclaimed actor Sydney Sweeney blasts the film industry for its perception that women support women in Hollywood. The Madame Web and Euphoria star claims many leading ladies in showbusiness are being "fake" with their sentiments about female empowerment.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Sweeney called it "disheartening" to see women attacking each other in the entertainment world and claims Hollywood's reputation for women empowering other women is fraudulent. Its very disheartening to see women tear other women down, the Anyone but You star said. Especially when women who are successful in other avenues of their industry see younger talent working really hard hoping to achieve whatever dreams that they may have and then trying to bash and discredit any work that theyve done. Sweeney added, This entire industry, all people say is Women empowering other women. None of its happening. All of it is fake and a front for all the...

Commentator cum media personality Megyn Kelly has really built herself a commendably prominent brand over the years, becoming one of the hottest topics in the industry. But while she gains a spot in the limelight every now and then, she also finds herself in the hot seat, especially for all the political and unprecedentedly controversial topics she has found herself engaging in.

One of these very topics is the humiliating remarks Kelly made on the Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda. This happened back in time when the media personality found herself questioning the actress on her plastic surgeries out of the blue – a cringeworthy turn of events, yes, but one that would unarguably forever hold a place in TV’s Hall of Shame nonetheless.

Barbarella Officially Returns with a Sarcastic Critique of Low-Effort Sci-Fi
Image
Iconic pop culture character Barbarella is set to return in a new series from Dynamite Entertainment, which will offer a dose of metahumor, as the creative team seeks to elevate the character for a new generation of fans, all while sending the space hero on a classic "heroes' journey," as the preview for the debut issue makes clear.

As reported by Aipt Comics, the character returns in Barbarella #1 written by Blake Northcott, with art by Anna Morozova and will quickly be propelled on an all-new adventure. The book promises a fresh take on the character, who was originally developed as a pulp hero in the early 1960s, and quickly became a cult favorite on-screen several years later.

The preview for the issue emphasizes how this new iteration of Barbarella will provide commentary on the sci-fi and action genre as a whole, as well as both paying homage to and lampooning the origins of the character.

Nicolas Winding Refn on Revisiting His Origin Story With ‘Pusher’ and Why He Won’t Be Making That ‘Barbarella’ Adaptation
Image
Nicolas Winding Refn, is one of the few directors who deserves the enfant terrible label. The Danish filmmaker, best-known for his neon-drenched tales of sex, violence and revenge — Drive, Only God Forgives, The Neon Demon — is at the Venice Film Festival this year with two works that, he says, represents both his “classic past and the future”: A restored version of his 1996 debut Pusher and Beauty Is Not a Sin, a seven-minute commercial for Italian motorcycle company Mv Agusta. “Whoever said a movie can’t be seven minutes long?” is its irreverent, Refn-esque tagline.

In recent years, Refn has pivoted from cinema towards streaming, bringing his acid Day-Glo aesthetic and digressive narrative style — he typically shoots in sequence, not knowing how his stories will end — to series like Too Old to Die Young for Amazon and Copenhagen Cowboy for Netflix. He also, surprisingly, reimagined Enid Blyton’s beloved kids...
