The Boys Built Firecracker to Provoke, But Ended Up Revealing Something Else
Image
When the Supe War started to take shape in Season 4 of Eric Kripke’s The Boys, Antony Starr’s Homelander sought assistance from some new promising faces. One such name was Firecracker, who quickly rose from a side character to one of the major problems that Billy Butcher and his ragtag group of vigilantes must take care of.

Interestingly enough, Kripke’s superhero spoof show had different intentions for her, where she would merely be a supporting antagonist. In the process of being a provocative figure on screen, she showcased a whole different side that was not part of the script. However, it did not disappoint, as her elitist side was quite an entertainer for the viewers to watch.

The Boys: Season 4 Unraveled a Different Side of Firecracker

After the events of The Boys Season 3, The Seven were weaker than ever. Using Vought as a cover, Homelander (Antony Starr...

Lesbian Actress Valorie Curry Discusses Portraying Anti-Gay, Anti-Trans Villain Firecracker in ‘The Boys’: “I really connected with her right off the bat”
Image
“The Boys” remains one of the world’s most popular superhero series, with Season 4 being Certified Fresh with high ratings. However, some fans were review-bombing the season due to its heightened political undertones, indicating that the writers are fully embracing political satire. One key element of this satire was a new character, Firecracker, a supervillain set to play a prominent role this season.

Recently, we reported on the inspiration behind Firecracker, with showrunner Eric Kripke revealing which U.S. politician influenced the character. Now, actress Valorie Curry has shared her thoughts on the influence behind her role, adding a layer of “The Boys”-style irony to the story.

In short, we reported that Eric Kripke confirmed Republican politician Marjorie Taylor Greene inspired Firecracker. Greene is a far-right politician and conspiracy theorist, a member of the Republican Party, and a strong supporter of Donald Trump.

She has promoted antisemitic and white supremacist views,...

Tonight Netflix is throwing out announcements left and right, thanks to its Tudum celebration. We saw new footage from Wednesday season 2, a teaser for Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, a new casting announcement for One Piece season 2, a trailer for Squid Game season 3, and of course the big kahuna, an insane release date announcement for Stranger Things 5. It was a lot.

So much so that Amazon Prime Video might have been feeling a little Fomo, because at the exact same time the streamer decided to announce the release date for the second season of Gen V, the college spinoff of its subversive superhero show The Boys. Season 2 will premiere on September 17, 2025. There's also a trailer, which you can watch right here:

Don’t Be Tardy for the First ‘Gen V’ Season 2' Trailer and New Release Date
Image
The kids are alright. Well. Kind of. Today at the Ccxp Mexico celebrations, Prime Video dropped the debut trailer for the second season of Gen V — a moment that fans have been waiting for since the first season came to an end back in 2023. Even better than that, though, is the announcement that Season 2 will finally arrive on Wednesday, September 17, which certainly stays on par with the school's in-session theme of the show.

In the quick glimpse that we see, Eric Kripke and his team have already upped the ante, and are going for more blood, guts, and drama than before. With the universe’s flagship series, The Boys, officially coming to an end following its upcoming fifth season, all eyes are on Gen V to serve as the future of the franchise. And, if today’s teaser is any clue, it certainly won’t disappoint. Many returning faces are...

Why Valorie Curry's Firecracker Is So Sick In The Boys Season 4
Image
"Sick" can mean a lot of things in the context of "The Boys." Season 4's newcomer Firecracker (Valerie Curry), for instance, is sick in a lot of ways. She's sick in that her whole life seems to be centered around getting revenge for a single mean girl incident that happened to her in her early teens. She's sick because she's peddling far-right conspiracy theories with seemingly full conviction, purely because those lies benefit her career. She's sick because she slept with a 15-year-old. But for the purposes of this piece, we're gonna stick to Firecracker's physical illness in the latter section of season 4. Why is Firecracker coughing so much?

The literal answer is easy: she's sick because she's taking a drug that helps out mothers who struggle with breastfeeding, except she's not a mother and she probably shouldn't be breastfeeding anyone, let alone a grown man with severe emotional problems.

'She Has It Coming': The Boys Star Hoping for Character's Death in Season 5
Image
The Boys Season 4 saw the debut of new supes, who immediately find out the Seven is ruled by a sociopathic despot. Valorie Curry says her character Firecracker quickly realizes this but is already trapped with no way out.

Firecracker's story arc in The Boys Season 4 mirrors Starlight's in Season 1; both supes join the Seven naive and hopeful, but are immediately disillusioned after a traumatic experience with Homelander's elite. Starlight (played by Erin Moriarty) was scarred but came out stronger in subsequent seasons, and it's yet to be seen how Firecracker (Valorie Curry) would handle the pressure. In an interview with Screen Rant, Curry teased anything can still happen for her character, who has made plenty of enemies in Season 4 with her hardline posturing and propaganda. The actor says Firecracker deserves poetic justice, and it's only fitting that she dies in Season 5.

In a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, The Boys' actor Valorie Curry explains the deeper meaning of Firecracker's conspiracies. Firecracker will do whatever it takes to survive and thrive in the world, The Boys star Valorie Curry explains. Firecracker is producing breast milk to curry favor with Homelander, but the process is also slowly killing her. This article contains spoilers for The Boys season 4 finale.

So many of our favorite characters have grown and started heading toward the final part of their arcs this year, and many of us could see that this season was going to serve as a set-up for what’s to come more than anything.

The Boys’ season 4 finale dropped the hammer down on the titular vigilante group in the grandest way possible. Homelander (Antony Starr) is effectively unopposed now that Senator Calhoun (David Andrews) is President of the United States by the end of the hour. The Boys have been taken into custody by Vought’s supers while Butcher (Karl Urban) has enacted...

‘The Boys’ Season 4 Finale Recap: Is There A Mid-Credit Scene?
Image
The Boys Season 4 was about two things: Homelander’s efforts to replace a human president with a Supe president (Victoria Neuman) and Butcher’s mission to concoct a virus that’ll kill Homelander. And while characters like Hughie, Annie, Mm, Kimiko, Frenchie, A-Train, Ashley, The Deep, Firecracker, and Ryan have gone in a variety of directions, Homelander (along with Sister Sage) and Butcher (with the voices of Becca and Kessler) have not deviated from the path to their respective ultimate objective. In the penultimate episode of this season of the show, we saw Homelander parting ways with Sister Sage because he thought she was detrimental to the task at hand. Frenchie was tasked with developing the Supe-killing virus after Sameer escaped from Butcher’s makeshift lab after almost killing Kimiko. And it was revealed that a shapeshifting Supe had imprisoned Annie and taken her place with the aim of erasing...

The Boys Unleashes Vought's Secret Weapon and It's Not One of the Seven
Image
Homelander's media manipulation tactics escalate tensions and political intrigue. The Boys uncover a shape-shifter posing as a key ally, threatening their mission. The shape-shifter infiltrates the crew, posing a significant threat with their deceptive abilities.

The following contains spoilers for The Boys Season 4, Episode 7, "The Insider," currently streaming on Prime Video.

Throughout The Boys Season 4, it's hard to deny that Antony Starr's Homelander has been deploying a master plan. He has dialed back his more aggressive approach of burning dissidents on American streets. Instead, he has been playing the media game, opting for the more subtle machination of messing with people's politics. A lot has to do with Valorie Curry's Firecracker rallying insurrectionists to his right-wing cause. They're forming a cult and groundswell in the hopes of taking back governance.

Interestingly, while it seemed like Homelander's Vought International would be using one of his subordinates in the...

‘The Boys’ S4 Episode 7 Recap Explained: Can The Boys Stop President’s Assassination?
Image
It’s Christmas eve in The Boys universe, and you know how the bloodlusted maniacs like to celebrate the festive season—obviously with murder, dismemberment, conspiracies, and an occasional, irritable dash of soul searching. The misadventures at Tek Knight‘s mansion in the previous episode revealed that Homelander and Neuman are all in to attempt a coup to eliminate president-elect Singer and fill up major administrative and legislative ranks with supes loyalists, while the dissidents will be put in internment camps. Butcher became fully aware of his troubled psyche after Kessler quite obviously turned out to be a ruthless, vile manifestation of his repressed guilt, and he also learned from the captive Sameer that the supe killing virus might lead to supe genocide if its strength is further increased. A-Train continues his efforts to turn a new page as he rescues a panic attack-stricken Mm. The seventh episode is a...

"Like, make the last episode of Season 5 a cliffhanger and announce the film that we've been filming since the beginning of the series, pretty much," Alonso teased, lamenting how "[Kripke] always somehow gets out of that one."

When it comes to characters being thrown around like rag dolls, The Boys takes the task to the next level. It is the extreme, satirical depiction of some of the most overlooked commentaries of the world, shown through superhero culture. In the center of it all stands Erin Moriarty’s Starlight. Throughout the series, she has gone from being a protagonistic character to someone who gets a bittersweet response from the audience.
