Recensioni in evidenza
I enjoyed watching "Dzien Oczyszczenia" (Purification Day) as an action movie in which I turned a blind eye to a certain dose of communist propaganda. The plot is set in the summer of 1944. A Home Army unit is decimated by the Germans while trying to take over a drop of weapons and ammunition from England. About 20 soldiers escape the encirclement, including the commander-Major "Dziadek" (Stanislaw Jasiukiewicz)-and his deputy-Captain Stanczyk (Emil Karewicz). The only chance for the Polish partisans to survive is to cooperate with the Soviet army unit commanded by Major Alosha (Vladimir Marenkov). The credibility of this story might be increased if you think that the United States and Great Britain were, during that time, allied with the Soviets to defeat Nazi Germany. Apart from that, this film has many assets. Director Jerzy Passendorfer specialized in war films, so the fight scenes are good and the action is fast-paced. The acting is also decent, with participation of many popular actors. I also remember a good sentence in which Witold Pyrkosz says that his grandfather was killed by the Swedes near Czestochowa. This sentence means not to look back too far into our past, and it is still surprisingly relevant.
