Estimable Spanish comedy , which at first seems to be a bit silly to get better little by little . The various situations are narrated as if they were sketches, within a general story . The film falls -at times- in a certain arrhythmia and does not opt for the crazy plot and characters , but a simple and slight comedy . That makes it seem like it does not have a substantial thread , but step by step everything is taking shape until it becomes a fun film with notable socio-economic-customary remarks , being credible and recognizable enough . Set in Madrid, lawyer Juan Pérez (José Luis López Vázquez) has just married Catalina (Amparo Soler Leal). An important American company requires Juan's services as a legal adviser, a fact that leads him to change his residence . Everything is going well, until the couple begins to assess whether the increase in salary is worth the change in life or their better life at the previous apartment .

Candid proposal that's based on an agreeable plot of everyday bearing with an air of urban costumbrism and notes of social chronicle . Very well interpreted , without stridency and within a quiet tone . The sense of humor is naive and its level of comic intensity barely reaches a remarkable height so that the viewer's attention tends to scatter due to lack of stimulation enough and wasting a screwball approach of a farce of a couple with a battle of the sexes that seemed to be intuited at first .

From a technical point of view , the film is decent , the setting adheres to what is convenient and the narrative rhythm adjusts adequately , though it has its ups and downs . The script chains internal vignettes of domestic-marital humor with recurring motifs that do not work very well , except for a few specific moments when they introduce secondary characters interacting with the leading couple, such as the amusing dinner with the American marriage , which is the best part of the movie as the couples as they do not know their respective languages start to drink and drink , resulting in extreme drunkenness . Its current interest lies in the presence of a notable cast that should always be remembered both for the quality of their performance in this film and for the scope that , in general, they had in the history of Spanish cinema in the following years. In the film, passable by its phenomenal interpreters , with the great José Luis López Vázquez and Amparo Soler Leal , and the actress Milagros Leal plays the mother of her daughter in reality , Amparo Soler Leal , and adding a lot of notorious , familiar secondaries , such as : Rafaela Aparicio , Erasmo Pascual , María Vico , Enriqueta Carballeira , William Layton and the always beautiful Irán Eory as the new secretary who causes jealousy to the faithful wife .

This film was one of the few directed by Francisco Prósper , best known for his work as a set designer , as he collaborated on this task with Luis García Berlanga, Orson Welles and Fernando Fernán Gómez .
