Nothing fancy here, with the bonus of a 1935 British setting, Mainly it's the very appealing presence of two American performers, June Clyde, plus Buddy Roger's easygoing manner, that makes this one worthwhile. The music isn't bad, either. I'm curious where these programmers played in the US, since they were pretty much a rare kind of thing--a "B" imported British musical.
Another dubious attraction is one hell of a scary dance team in the middle of it (the female looks like an anorexic Cruella DeVille), but aside from that it's the one time we will probably ever see The Chinese Syncopators! I wonder whatever happened to them?

Hi to all 1930's musical fans!!!!!while searching for dance bands to the british pathe site I came across this short from a british T.V. series of the late 50's.The number and the title of this trailer is 2705.02 - HIGHLIGHT - THE SINGING CINEMA reel 3 & 4 I downloaded the preview 128 kbbs version but there is a bigger one for sale.....AND ITS GREAT...!There are at least 2 more of these trailers in this site which I have not D.L. yet,but I think its worth the try...I am particularly fond of British musicals, but they are so rare to find,in DVD or even in VHS.The only one i have is the 1934 EVERGREEN in LASER DISC from the CRITERION co.I would realy like to get in touch with anyone interested at early musicals, not that I know too much about it,but its nice to have someone to talk about it.Enjoy it,Nikolis Dimitris :-]
Dance bands and their leaders were the pop icons of the thirties. There are a considerable number of films that featured bands. There is one musical which has a finale with no less than 6 name bands. So I am wondering,as a dance band enthusiast, whether any of the bands featured in this film were actual bands. There are some quite catchy numbers featured, the best of which is "The Valperiso".The story as such features Rogers and Clyde hating each other at first and then well you can guess the rest. There is a dance band contest which features a sort of clapometer similar to the one used by Hughie Greene on Opportunity Knocks.A very enjoyable and entertaining film.
