Silent comedy rules!  Harold Lloyd epitomizes 'twenties optimism while serving up the fun. Even better, he filmed this on the streets of New York, so we feel as if we stepped into a time machine. The great disc extras include input from New Yorker extraordinaire Bruce Goldstein. It's a great show for holiday viewing -- unless your family hates New York. The Criterion Collection generally keeps it pretty chill when it comes to their December releases. After all, they spend the whole year making cinephiles drool, so the leadup to Christmas is generally the time when they wind things down a bit (and after announcing their killer November slate last month, they deserve a break). But that's not say the last month of 2015 won't have some treasures to discover. While somewhat overshadowed by Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd was just as popular during the silent era, and his films are just as enjoyable.
