Beyond the Lake

Beyond the Lake sees a young girl rowing a boat across a vast lake, while asking questions to an old man. Their conversation is centered around a name that the young girl needs to take the man where he must go, but Jacob (the old man) does not want to give her the name. I like Greek Mythology and am familiar with the myth of Charon, so was intrigued to watch this short film. For some reason, I thought it was going to be some weird horror film but was pleasantly surprised with the director's take on the character and his vision which has more fantasy elements. The cinematography is quite good, location is beautiful but what sells it is the music which is beautifully composed and draws you into the mythical world that is created. The performances are strong in places, not so strong in others. However, overall the film left me a feeling of comfort and happiness.
