As much as it's merely a combination of three completely overused genres, films that hit the trifecta of romantic, zombie and comedy are a rare breed, and it's even more uncommon that they're done well. Zombie For Sale fully embraces the silliness inherent to it's premise, so it's easy to forgive when it's being outlandishly unrealistic. It also strikes the best balance of laugh out loud comedy and fully functioning zombie flick since Shaun of the Dead. Not sure what's causing this boom in quality Korean cinema, but I hope it continues for a long time!

I really love this movie. It has very good cinematography and funny moments. Even though the storyline seems to be problem here, this movie gives you a new experience of zombie invasion. Damn! The director knows how to make excellent scenes.
Just watch it for fun, cause it is made to make you laugh.

I suppose the word that comes to mind when I think about this film is "offbeat". It's a zombie film that isn't really scary. It's a comedy but has a kind of hangdog feel. None of the characters is terribly attractive, let alone glamorous. But somehow I found a lot of things to like about The Odd Family. For a start, I was quite taken with the look of it, with its lush green expanses outdoors and its convincingly old-fashioned, cluttered interiors. I also thought the film was put together and paced in a very coherent way, so, even though there weren't any exciting action scenes or dramatic confrontations, I was still carried along by the story. The ensemble cast worked well together; it looked like all of them had cast vanity to the four winds and completely entered into the spirit of their very ordinary, even lumpen characters. And, lastly, I did enjoy the story and the way the family members (including the new addition, the zombie) interacted with each other. So, although its wry, lowkey charms may not be obvious to everyone, I do recommend this film for an evening's gentle entertainment,

Lee Mn-Jae's 2019 film, "The Odd Family, Zombie on Sale" seems to be maybe South Korea 's first entry to the Zombie comedy genre. There's a lot of references to Millennial "Zom-Com" films such as "Shaun of the Dead", "Warm Bodies" and "Zombieland" but also straightforward Zombie films, like George E. Romero's 2005 "Land of the Dead".
It's story centers around the "Park" family owning a gas station that take a young man, Hyon-woo" (nicknamed later as "Jongbie, the Pet") who develops "zombie" characteristic behavior. The family consists of a married couple (with wife expecting), their father plus a young girl, "Hae-Gul" in which "Jongbie" develops a crush on. The obvious enemy here is an illegal pharmaceutical company called "Human Bio", doing experiments on humans... does this plot sound familiar to you?
Again, if you like these referenced films, Min-Jae's film is for you. Otherwise, he does not offer anything new or original here. But the quality of acting, set production and special effects are very good. In its Midwest premiere, Min-Jae stated that his wife co-wrote the script and that the fact "zombies" belong to Haitian Vodou. He further said that in fact, the idea of the "living dead" can be also found in Korean lore.
When asked if there will be a sequel, he said (in a joking manner) maybe when the baby character grows up to be 20 years old... he will pursue a sequel! If you are interested on an international perspective on how filmmakers have taken on the "zombie" genre, then "The Odd Family, Zombie on Sale" is for you!

I was given the chance to sit down and watch "The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale" (aka "Gimyohan Gajok"), and with it being a South Korean zombie movie, of course I jumped at the chance.
Initially I must admit that I wasn't overly impressed with the movie, as it was more of a zombie comedy, but really lacking that special zombie ingredient to make it worthwhile and outstanding. But then things started to speed up and the storyline changed for the better, and the movie suddenly became more enjoyable.
The storyline is a bit tedious at first, it was watchable for sure, but it wasn't an outstanding first half of the movie. Sure, there were moments here and there where the movie was shining, but it wasn't really a great zombie movie. But when things started to go awry in the little community, the movie just took a 180 turn for the better.
I must admit that the character gallery in the movie wasn't really that great, and I didn't really invest much into the characters. There was just something missing from the characters, as they had very little depth and flavor to them, and they could essentially be one and the same.
The zombie make-up was good and worked well in the feel of the movie. Don't go around expecting something grotesque and gory though.
The last half of the movie, however, now this is where the movie really came into play, and director Lee Min-jae managed to salvage an otherwise sliding storyline.
I am rating "The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale" a six out of ten stars. It turned out to become adequately entertaining, but this is hardly a movie that stands out in the zombie genre, and in comparison to "Train From Busan", then this was a children's movie. While it is watchable, it is hardly a movie that you'll watch more than once.

The combination of Korea and zombies doesn't automatically mean non-stop thrill-a-minute undead action like Train to Busan. Zombie For Sale takes a fair while to get going: like one of Romero's classic ghouls, it shuffles along at a rather leisurely pace at first, focussing on the activities and relationships of a boondock family, the Parks, who operate a garage, scamming travellers by causing blow-outs and then charging a fortune to fix their vehicles.
After a zombie-like young man, an escapee 'guinea pig' from a nearby pharmaceutical company, wanders onto the Parks' premises and bites the elderly father, the family discovers a new means of income: the boy's bite causes rejuvenation, and pretty soon all of the old men in the town are lining up, happy to pay cash to be bitten on the arm. Unfortunately, the positive effects of the young man's bite eventually wear off, the old men turning into ravenous zombies, and it's not long before the whole area is over-run by the undead.
The film's quirky family dynamic is akin to something like Parasite or Takashi Miike's The Happiness of the Katakuris, and might prove a little too offbeat for many zombie movie fans. I found my mind wandering when the film's first zombie took more interest in munching cabbages than brains, but I stuck with it and was glad I did, the film morphing into a likeable Warm Bodies style rom-zom-com (the daughter, Hae-Gul, falling for Jjong-Bi, as the zombie is named) before finally delivering the action in the final act, as the Parks come under siege, trapped in their garage by hordes of flesh-eaters.
There's not much gore to speak of, and, at 112 minutes, the film does go on for a bit too long (some of that cabbage chomping could definitely have been cut!), but overall this is an entertaining and unexpectedly different take on the genre, and if the ending doesn't make you smile, then you're probably already dead.
6.5/10, rounded up to 7 for IMDb.

Very clever cute funny well constructed story. Love the way everything tied up. Don't want to spoil the story just watch it to the end and be surprised. The Korean touch is in the hilarious way the romance was integrated. Comic performance from Kim Gam Nil - he is funny. Jung Ga Ram is great too as the zombie. Expertly directed and stylishly filmed with a suitable score. Very feel good - better than Warm Bodies.

If you are expecting something similar to "Train to Busan", you will be highly disappointed. If your expectation is to watch a decent Zombie movie, this movie will not disappoint, especially to people who understand Korean. Simply put, this movie was cute and I was smiling at the end of the movie.

It was a sort of ok film, started off with promise but faded away. I think it was at least twenty minutes too long.
A solid 5/10.
A solid 5/10.
A fun zombie comedy that is more about the laughs than the scares
Odd Family is solid proof that the horror-comedy genre continues to go from strength to strength and that Asian cinema, especially that of South Korean origin, is the best it has even been and we for one could not be happier. It's funny, heartwarming and gory to boot with terrific performances and chemistry between the family and will have audiences laughing out loud for its entire runtime
HAVE A GOOD FUN

A hilarious movie about zombie and family who's trying to get the best of it. Unexpected brief romance line and siblings core are appreciated. A nice one-time watch!

If you're expecting a Zombie movie, you'll be disappointed like me. Having watched Train to Busan, this movie is a poor comparison as there is not a single scary scene.
In terms of comedy, this certainly isn't my kind of humour as the movie makes very little sense.

A really good comedy movie. Zombie movie trends to be of serious type. I really didn't expect to laugh a lot. It is not a typical zombie movie something is really unique. Most importantly who ever think of making a profitable business by using a Zombie!!
Isn't it hilarious?

I tried too hard to laugh but I cant.cringe acting and childish script.cinematography was good.i personally not recommend this movie.

This is one of the stupidest movies I've ever tried to watch. Not one tiny bit of humor. Ultra-boring characters. Derivative plot. I wound up fast-forwarding and never found anything worth watching. If I could give this zero stars, I would.

Wow what a brilliant movie! Filled with the rare unique blend of horror and humour that the South Koreans seem to be masters off. From the first appearance and build up, you really don't know what to expect. Jumping from screams to laughs to sentimental! We loved this movie's hearty laughs and attention to detail.
Totally recommend this movie for Zombie Comedy genre
It is a great movie, reminds me Shaun of the dead. Somehow Korea has good zombie movies.

If you are not aware yet, that family is something that is a very big topic in South Korea, you either are not living there/aware of their social life or haven't watched enough movies originating from there. Released in the same year Parasite came out, I guess it is not surprising to a degree that this was not or did not get as much attention as the Oscar winner itself.
Now the movie itself is only for those who don't mind their horror mixed with comedy. Because this gets scary at times, but mostly decides to go with humor. Of course you can't be easily offended when it comes to that humor ... and while yes there is some rom-zom going on, I think the degree of it is measured. It lays more weight on the comedy.
Of course it acknowledges previous zombie movies (one in particular even in a short clip that characters are watching), but it plays with our expectations and sometimes goes someplace we don't expect it to go ... which is so much fun to watch. The title (Zombie for sale) may be saying something about the direction it takes ... but again, so many turns, so many even little wonderful twists ... you just got to love it. Very respectful, not just to its otherwise small time crooks as main characters, but to the genre itself! A first time director - who was an editor prior though, which makes sense watching this finely assembled movie.
