Just sit back and enjoy it.

Ignore the armchair critics. Valeria is a Spanish series, so comparing it with series from other countries is pointless. Voting it down because it deals with adultery is to apply ones own moral standards to a tv series.

This is a series following the sexual encounters of four young Spanish women in Madrid. There is plenty of nudity and lots of sexual scenes. There are also many good songs to accompany the plot, and great shots of Madrid.

To me it seems that this was meant to be enjoyed as a light hearted piece of fictional fun. I loved it as such, and I hope there will be another series.

Half-half

Right now, I am almost done with Season 2. I doubt my mind will change by the end of the series.

The main character is very obnoxious and I don't understand the need for such a thing, when others are pretty much ok.

Madrid is very nicely presented in a way one would move there right away, because of beautiful architecture, but more importantly because one can be "poor" with huge apartments, designer furniture and constant partying and outings. I watch all these shows because I can't do all those fun things poor people in Madrid can do, so this is very irritating (to me). For the same reason this romance between a very rich guy and poor girl is not possible, and I wonder when will we stop filming such BS? Either film a fairytale or a real life.

I have to say I really liked some real situations women have to face, like cat calling, menstrual blood, sweating... I would love more of that instead of clichés.

Soundtrack was also very nicely chosen.

Madrid

Madrid is beautiful and the shots of Madrid are the best thing. The show is very similar to Sex and the City as someone mentioned, so if you miss that show you could enjoy this one. Expet for the main character, it's very hard to like her. I watched it for fun, did not have any expetations. Also, the music is nice.

Half Baked Adaptation of SATC

Elements were correct, set in Spain. Independent women but always talking about only relationships, when will this cliche be over? Give it a pass if have watched SATC religiously, you will end up comparing Gave chance the characters to evolve but dint happen till end Stunning locales and people, BTW!

Beautiful Madrid and Spanish music with an unlikable main character

A 7 for the nice views of Madrid and great music choice. This series is a Spanish version of SATC. 4 friends and their loveproblems in a beautiful city. Storyline is not new, but it's nice to watch if you want something light and easy. Only real problem is the main character Valeria. She is not a likeble character.

Relaxing show

I don't understand the bad reviews as this is obviously a relaxing girl show, so if you were looking to watch and adventurous intellectual show there's no reason to start watching this one.

It kinda reminds of a modern version of Sex and the city as the girls have a beautiful friendship, though they are way less glamorous.

I had a great time watching this show. Love, sex, work, friendship and nights out are the main subjects, just the show you want to watch when you want to relax from real life.

Fun and enjoyable

I really enjoyed the first season. It is refreshing. I know there are 4 "Valeria" books, so I hope there will be more seasons.

Very funny and interesting

I watched in only one day. I really liked it. I laughed a lot and really liked the plot. Havent read the book, but this series was pretty nice. Very good to spend some time in quarentine laughing and having fun. I recommend it if you are a teenager and like this type of series. Didnt like the end though, hope second season is coming soon.

It's basically "Sex and the City" in Spain in 2020

"Four female Madrileñas gossip about their sex lives (or lack thereof) and find new ways to deal with being a woman in 2020" - This is a description from Sex and the City. I just changed "New Yorkers" to Madrileñas and "the late 1990s" to "2020", and voilá, a perfect description of Valeria. I watch it in Spanish with Spanish subs to improve my language skills. For that it's perfect. But unless you like shows that don't give you much to think of, I wouldn't recommend it.

I just have one hang up

I dont like Valeria. I have no empathy towards her. I feel no compassion, no hope for happiness for her. I hope she is miserable. She is not a good person. Honestly, I see no redeeming qualities in this self centered, flighty child. The other characters and stories are really good. Maybe get rid of Valeria and change the name of the show.

Fun, enjoyable, perfect for summer days

I don't understand some of the bad reviews I read here. I haven't read the book, so I can't make the comparison but I can say that I really, really enjoyed watching this TV show. It's not superficial, I think that the friendship between main characters is rather deep, they are always there for each other, so I don't think it's very relatable to "Sex and the city" that had those superficial moments numerous times. These girls have type of friendship I wish I had. It's more about that and their careers I would say, boys come after that. Every episode is fun, and makes you want to go to Spain, drink wine and eat whatever. When you want to take a break from existential dread but not from real life, this is a show for you, it moves you and inspires you, and makes you laugh.

season 1 7.5/10 season 2 7/10

Nice Spanish drama/comedy and romance. Good acting. Nice friend group and Valeria's love interest is hot. Season 1 I rate a 7.5/10 and season 2 a 7/10 as I found the storyline of season 1 a little better and better humour. Hoping for a season 3.

Doorbells and Dance Music

1.) Over the past two years I have invested an unprecedented amount of time watching television. A deeply shameful and embarrassing amount of television watching. I've watched hundreds of hours of shows, movies, YouTube webinars - - you name it. So, it's with this sturdy breadth of informed experiences that I can confidently declare that this show has the MOST unabashed use of doorbell sounds of ANY other program I have watched in 39 years of life. The narrative I've created for myself (that has no basis in reality) is that the writers/editors are dog owners, and decided to include 6-20 doorbell sounds per episode as a cruel and hilarious inside joke. I imagine a team of writers sitting around a table collectively generating the script, and when the good viable ideas waned, someone added, "more doorbell!" and everyone doubled over laughing.

On the upside, midway through Season 1, my 3 very vocal dogs have been completely desensitized to the doorbell. So, thank you. The Netflix subscription was far more cost effective than paying a trainer.

2.) When your partner goes to sleep earlier than you, and you occupy that tireless space with some late-night TV-watching, it goes without saying that you'll make an effort to keep the volume reasonably low so as not to disturb your person. This is the second leg of the unintentional comedic genius of this series... As you attempt to uphold the bare minimum levels of courtesy to your sleeping partner... this show counters with abruptly alternating scenes of quiet talking and loud AF club music. You can't anticipate it. You can't course-correct swiftly enough. You can't fall asleep to this show, and neither can your partner. Incredible.

Total disappointment

If you liked the books, steer clear of the series. It's an "open adaptation" of the books, granted, but other than the main characters' names, the similarities are few and far between. The heroin is a self-indulgent, hardly likeable character whom I found impossible to sympathize, let alone identify, with.

Enjoyable but lame

This show is entertaining. The actresses dress very nicely and the actors are hot. The plot and the acting are bad and its difficult to sympathize or relate to any of the characters.. relationships seem quite forced even among the 4 friends since I hardly notice any real chemistry. Finally, the soundtrack is good but the songs are placed at scenes were they don't really make any sense at all!!

I've watched the show for the outfits

And that tells a lot. I haven't read the book so I started this with no expectations. The story and characters are quite similar to Sex and the city just less funny and not well-written. All the drama were quite unrealistic and sometimes annoying, you cannot really relate to any of the characters.

But! I truly enjoyed what the show could provide visually, the shots of Madrid and the outfits were stunning. It made me forget about the not so smart storyline.

The first season - fresh, enjoyable and sensual

It's fresh, even with all the twists and turns, the drama, if you will, it keeps a rythm that doesn't encourage 'overemotionality' - it doesn't feel like it pulls at your heart strings to 'get you', it just shows life stories. I loved the music and the editing especially - it really gives the series its own unique vibe, which in an era of fast food tv is quite an accomplishment. Some mentioned it is similar to sex in the city, and it is in that the characters are believable, the actors have chemistry with each other, it has a distinct personality and there is an ease to it, a sense of humor that accompanies all the ups and downs of their personal lives. I also enjoyed the fact that it has a certain simplicity to it, without being shallow, and that the (many) sex/love scenes are sensual, real and beautifully filmed.

Cool, but...

This show was okay, I enjoyed some episodes, but, it didn't quite manage to capture me into the plot. I found myself being bored sometimes. But overall, nice.

Exciting, enjoyable, sexy

I had so much fun watching this series with it's fresh, contemporary vibe. I love Lola, her house and her amazing style! I binged the first and now the second season, which I found to be better, in view of characters' and stories' development. I see the low rates being justified by Valeria's flaws and I can't help but wonder, was Carrie Bradshaw likeable? Also, I don't know who promoted it as such, but there's absolutely no need to compare it to SATC, it stands perfectly on it's own.

2023 update: Unfortunately, season 3 was a huge disappointment to me. I had given the series 10 stars, I was that enthusiastic about it! But last season spoiled all the fun. It felt like the writers decided to go against a much anticipated closure, just so the series wouldn't resemble SATC that much. I found the new couples unmatching, uninteresting and lacking that sizzling first season's chemistry. I can't recall any of this season's episodes worthy of rewatching, some of them being unnecessarily time consuming. I had been so looking forward to see Valeria and Victor evolve, mature, help heal each other's insecurities and grow stronger together.

One word, clichéd

Usual tropes of friendship of four girls we have seen infinite times. Valeria is a writer facing a writer's block, then finding inspiration from her real life escapades of cheating and her struggles.

Then her friend Lola has a wrapped relationship with a committed man. Other friend Nerea is a lesbian and has her own issues. Lastly Carmen is the intelligent one competing with her boy friend.

Valeria sounds selfish and lazy girl. When her husband asks her to be more responsible and find a job, then she is complaining that she wants to concentrate on her writing. Its good to follow your dreams but running away from your responsibilities? She is busy hooking up with Victor behind her husband's back.

Other girls are fine but nothing much new to offer. Lots of sex scenes. Is still watchable though if you have nothing better to watch. Comparing with Sex and the city is not fare. Those stories and characters and acting were out this one's league.
