Fantastically written dialogue and deep character customisation make this an absolute gem. Funny as hell, as well as deeply ironic, it plays smoothly and looks great. I've experienced no bugs at all, showing Bethesda that it is indeed possible to create an excellent open world RPG that isn't horrifically broken.
This is a very good game. It is heavy on dialogue, with many conversation options. The graphics are bright, colourful and imaginative. Unlike many new games there are barely any bugs or glitches and none of them are game breaking. No micro transactions, no loot boxes, this is a complete game. If you felt cheated by the absolute crap that was Fallout 76 as I did buy this game. Bethesda take note, this is how you make a game, and Tod Howard pull your head out of your back.

This game was a very pleasant surprise; I had barely heard about it before it had come out. But I enjoyed every moment of it, begining to end.
A large portion of the game is dialogue, and one of the Outer World's strengths is it's engaging writing and multi level branching conversations. They DO someone lack dynamics, as all conversations take a place in a shoulders up view like New Vegas or FO3. Your companions will chime in with interesting things to say and also will give you dialogue skill bonuses, It's definitely worth considering who you bring with you when you set out. For example, Parvati (played so well by Ashley Burch) gives you bonuses to persuade with how adorable she is. All of this matters too; the amount of choices you make over the game to determine Halcyon's fate is incredible and results in many types of endings. You really can burn any bridge or kill any person and there will still be a path to continue. The main story isn't super long, especially if you have good dialogue skills, but it's replayability and other activities more than make up for it.
As for gameplay, the game leaves a little to be desired with its core mechanical feel. Combat feels a little static on its own, and stealth can be inconsistent and difficult. Luckily, it has a fun slow motion ability and satisfying companion special moves. While the environments have a lot of interesting places and people, they don't feel as open as they should sometimes.
Other than that I had no other problems with this game. It's personality, world building, and humor make it 100% worth it. RPG fans, don't skip this one!!!
Just wow. When this great, proper action RPG gets compared with Bethesda's latest offering, it really is embarrassing just how far Bethesda have fallen. The outer worlds looks fantastic, runs smooth as silk (on PS4 Pro) and is rich in detail, content, character development options, customisation and combat. It is everything you could possibly hope this genre of video game would be and a ton load more added in just as a bonus - out of the collective goodness of Obsidian's heart.
This gem! From the creator of the fan favourite Fallout New Vegas, Obsidian is once again showing Bethesda how it's REALLY done - (to the point of dishing out a huge dose of abject humiliation in the process in this particular case)
Compare The Outer Worlds to the broken mess that was and still is Fallout 76, with its over priced micro transactions and utterly disgraceful, borderline criminal (imo) Subscription "Service." Bethesda (probably being forced to by its owner Zenimax to do so) have turned their sheer greed and audacity up to 11 and have just gone straight for the "desperate cash grab" strategy aimed directly (and ruthlessly) at the few players that actually stuck with their half finished rubbish. That's what fan loyalty got them! Nice!
Anyway, compare that dumpster fire atrocity of a game with this. Night and Day only begins to illustrate the point.
That said, we do now have to anxiously wait to see if Take 2 interactive decides to introduce micro transactions into the outer worlds and break all of our hearts in doing so. Please T2I. Just Nooooo!
TLTR:
1 Good game by a good developer = buy 2 Bad game by a bad developer = leave to others to buy
The Outer Worlds = 1. Fallout 76 = 2

This game is so unique and fun. Sometimes in long open world games I get a little bored because there's a lack of things to do, well that didn't happen here. This game is rich with different characters, factions, and locations. Get this game as soon as possible

The Outer Worlds was some of the most fun I've had with a new game in a very long time. I found myself wrapped up in the Colony of Halcyon as much as the characters were. The graphics are beautiful but also very different from typical graphics. This game has a smooth style while also using very similar elements to Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4. Gameplay is refreshing and feels so well polished. I loved some of the characters and all of the locations. The creatures are new and innovative and the guns are creative. I've never found myself liking a game so easily. The Outer Worlds has some problems with design of some characters as well as a healing system that could be improved. The Outer Worlds doesn't do much wrong and does a lot of things very very well.

A very compelling game with superb characters with interesting personalities and personal quests. The story itself is interesting, as you will be tasked with uncovering a dark conspiracy. There are plenty of enjoyable side missions to strive with, so you'll have plenty of energetic fun when exploring this huge game and its beautiful planets. The soundtrack is very rememberable, so get your devices out and get on with downloading those tracks. This is one of those games where you question whether or not to purchase it, but once you've made that choice to adopt the game with your many other games, you realise you've made a glorious choice. 8/10.

This is not a bad game but this is not a super game, I would prefer to play fallout NV or fallout 3 / 4 over this.
It has a very short story with a lot of side missions what felt like main part of this game, It had no characters what gave any lasting impression, But the combat is fun, you can do a lot of the game just by talking your way through what is a nice change and the story is not great but just good enough to make me keep going to the end what was a Disappointing ending to a game what felt mediocre at best.

I'm on my second playthrough and I gotta say it....
IT'S BETTER THAN SKYRIM!
Yeah, I went there!
It's short, sure, but SO WELL thought out and beautifully executed.
Oh, and that Dr. Ellie Fenhill...
Seems like they coulda added more stuff, seems rushed. Still good tho. Just some parts feel bland

We all know how FO76 is a massive let down, and how in FO4 you soon ran out of things to do... Well The Outer Worlds is not like them at all ! It feels like FONV loads of different things to do, it leaves you thinking what to do next !
Best game I have played in 2 years.

Really fun for about the first 10 hours, but then gets a little stale. The characters are really strong, and the choices you make feel real and I found myself really thinking about what would be the best choice. The story does feel a bit short, but the part that bothered me was the amount of items and enemies in the game. After a while you find that you are simply finding the same weapons and armor over and over again. And fighting the same enemies over and over again. Overall I had a lot of fun playing the game but got pretty bord near the end.
I love these type of RPG games. I haven't played Bethesdas latest online RPG efforts (which are meant to be terrible) but this game compares unfavourably to the likes of Fallout 3, New Vegas (Obsidian's previous effort), Fallout 4, Oblivion or Skyrim.
The world is smaller, the game about a quarter as long as those titles less immersive and much more bland. The characters also compare unfavourably, this is a shame as Obsidian made a much more interesting game in New Vegas and this seemed like a good purchase as a result.
There is also a serious lack of diversity of monsters/ outlaws to kill. The dozens of different threats in the games mentioned above have been whittled down to a much smaller selection which makes it extra repetitive.
In short this seems a bit rushed, the map of the solar system has many several worlds you cannot travel too which makes it appear the area to explore is bigger than it is. Though some worlds such as Monarch are quite large.
On the plus side, this game also seems to have drawn a lot of inspiration from Firefly with your ship baring a remarkable similarity to the Serenity. I also completed it without encountering any bugs, which is something I have never experienced in a Bethesda effort.

-The game is fun and has many interesting missions.
-There are many weapons and outfits/armor -Many companions that you can recruit as crew members -A bunch of planets that you can freely explore -Multiple factions -Interesting space atmosphere
Conclusion: An absolutely recommendable space shooter with pleasant roleplay mechanics.

I'm surprised this game's current rating on Metacritic is only 85%. It certainly deserves to be at least closer to Must-play if not Must-play at all as I would've rated it.
While I enjoyed and platinumed Fallout 4 just like Outer worlds, the latter is a much better game for two reasons - a top notch storytelling and an enticingly addictive gameplay with outstanding visuals.
This game is technically not as vast as the clusters of galaxies Starfield boasts, but even with very few planets it offers, exploring them was by a mile more fun than Starfield which in my opinion was a complete mess of a desolate void with no story, whereas the Outer worlds is inhabited with great characters you care about.
I had originally bought the digital version on PS store, and even after getting the platinum trophy, I still considered buying the disc version to have it in my collection.
A sci-fi Masterpiece of a game!

It may not be your cup of tea, but the story, gameplay and how SMOOTH it runs is amazing. The game is fantastic and especially right now, in 2022, you should be playing it. I really REALLY can't wait for another installment, the DLC(s) were both nice and good, added some story time and good play time. Obsidian rocked the crap out of it and although it had the potential to be even greater, it was still STILL super duper great. No spoilers for those that haven 't played it, but DEFINITELY give this team of developers your money, they're worth and and their love child is worth the time to buy and play it. Highly recommended. AND THANK GOODNESS IT IS A GOOD, SINGLE PLAYER STORY, not some garbage MMO we're all suffering through, yet again.

Brilliant game, if you've ever loved a Bethesda RPG pick this up and you will have the time of your life.

As in it's not a great game, and it's not a bad game. It's made by the devs who did Fallout: New Vegas, and you can really see the similarities. That said, I have many issues with the design of the game, it's comedy outlook, and antagonist of choice.
All in all? Yea. I guess I'd recommend it. Just not very highly
Cain and Boyarski are two of the major powerhouses in Computer RPG's. The writing and intrigue is spot on. The combat is decent and challenging as well. It seems to lack life, however. I'm not sure if that is something I can blame the game for since it was written for a new audience with all the "new audience" issues underlying the dialogue and interactions. It seemed a little too "Try Hardy" that way. I bought this game because these guys are old school RPG who say it like it is; I didn't expect they would be so ... constricted. Still...it's a good start.
So many of the skill checks do nothing to affect the outcome of the conversation and it's insulting to the player's intelligence. Why on earth would I speck into any of the dialogue choices when they have no impact on the game? If I pass the lie check, the npc just laughs in my face as if I failed the lie, but I passed. False choices litter this game.

I really really wanted to play this game. I took my time with it at the start, exploring every area and every dialogue option. But after 10 hours, it's clear that this game is just okay at best. It has failed to captivate me like other RPGs have. Sure, the companions are good (Parvati is especially charming). The game isn't a buggy mess which is nice. Also, there does seem to be some player choice like in New Vegas, but otherwise? The worlds seem very small and lack life, with loads of generic enemies. The marauders are all the same and I wish they'd have more variety like all the different Fiend types in New Vegas. The story feels linear and to be frank is just boring. The graphics are... alright. For a AAA title that took a few years to develop, I feel like they should look better. The character models aren't the best either.
The weapons and armour are boring as well, as are the perks. Fallout New Vegas had loads of unique perks so I wish Obsidian had tried harder at making the perks in this game interesting. There were also skills that you can add points to, but all the skill checks in the game just seemed really easy to pass. And yes, I will keep comparing TOW to Fallout New Vegas as most of the advertising campaign consisted of "this was made by the creators of New Vegas".
The world-building gets ridiculous at times. So the whole game has a very strong anti-corporation message which I can get behind but the way it's executed is dumb. Early on in the game you reach a colony (which is controlled by one of those corporations) where you find out that the best workers get given medicine so they can survive the plague, whereas those who don't work as hard or whatever just get left to die by the corporation as a punishment. Surely it would be better for the corporation to let their workers live so they can create more profit? I get that this game is meant to be a critique of corporations but they have been made to look comically evil in this game, to a ridiculous extent.
All in all it seems like everyone only thinks this game is "so amazing" because we've gotten used to recent games, especially RPGs, being subpar. It also seems like people are forcing themselves to love this game as a "take that" to Bethesda.
