Bhai - Vyakti Ki Valli

You will find value of water in desert. You will find value of person when he is not with you. But there are some personalities who you value, when they are there around you as well.

He lived a king size life. He has given a joy to more than 3 generations and will continue to give joy to many more generations. We have met him through his books, music, social activities, drama and many more.

Yes, I am talking about Marathi movie 'Bhai'. It's really tough to create a film on 'PuLa'. But Mahesh Manjarekar and his team has created great film. All actors have performed really great. One of the best background music this film has.

For ex. With 'GaDiMa' , a scene will tell you how a different composition will take the song altogether at different level.

Like everyone he is a human being. Accepting his own limitations and saying 'Sorry' to his wife is one of the classic scene, directed and acted by known personalities.

I enjoyed his books a lot. I have laughed a lot because of his creations. While talking to friends of any generations, sometimes 'Antu Barva' is referred, sometimes 'Sakharam Gatane' is referred, yes, many more his characters are getting referred. But in film ( for ex 'Mhais') or drama (for ex. 'Vyakti Ani Valli') it's very difficult to show his creations and as per me those creations failed.( Sorry for this remark). But this movie is created considering not only strengths of cinema as medium but also considering limitations of cinema medium. And that is where this film is great.

At last Bhimsen, Vasantrao Deshpande, Kumar Gandharva and PL....Kanda raja Pandharicha ....you will get so much delighted, you will get so much soothing feeling, you will get so much inner satisfaction......you will express by heart...you will express through corner of your eyes........yes, a different nostalgic feeling ...

Bhai , a must watch Marathi movie.

Growing up, a lot of us have read his stories. Some of our elders were fortunate enough to see him in action. Bhai takes a look behind the scenes look at the life of probably the largest persona in the marathi film, theatre and music industry, the late P.L.Deshpande, affectionately called "Pu La", or "Bhai". The story dwells around parts of his childhood, the hardships he faces on his adulthood, and brings several of his stories to life. We see a lot of things as Sunita Thakur, his wife saw them. The movie ends on a high note with one of the most beautiful classical singing "mehfil". For any fan of Pu La, this film is an absolute must watch.

It is a delight to watch this masterpiece. It has comedy, tragedy, fun sorrow, anger and all the feelings are used in right way. Beauty of the movie is Pu La's life is portrayed not just a ideal person but as ordinary person who did extraordinary things. His career spanned from Pt. Nehru to Bal Thackery.

Some people have severely criticized this movie for being a shallow and not portraying Pu La's life accurately. However, it comes from peoples high expectations rather than shortcomings from the movie. As his life had such a dynamic spectrum that its hard to portray in a movie. The movie is excellent effort and must watch for Pu La's fans. However, there could be some improvements like character of Rao Saheb could have been better developed. He just comes and goes without really making any impact. People who have not read read or listened to story of Rao Saheb would easily miss that part. Also, Pu La as a writer is not portrayed as strongly. His character looks more of a happy go lucky person than a key figure in Marathi literature. His devotion to the music and social cause is portrayed pretty well. The music is one the strong points of he movie. The movie ends with the amazing Mehfil portraying the music maestro Pt. Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Kumar Gandharva, and Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande in a very casual unplanned gathering. It transfers people to that era and leaves everyone with a goose bumps.

Hats off to acting by all actors.. Specially Sagar Deshmukh in Pu. La. Deshpande's role. Story line is kelp wonderfully interesting without making it typical biography. I also liked role played for Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, his singing style is exactly same. 👌👌 Singers are simply "Masters of classical & normal singing" ...👍👍 Thanks to Mahesh Manjrekar..

Well casted movie, Full on entertainment, very well directed.
