Sad as hell

This a sad fuqkin movie, don't even know how come i've watched it the whole way through. Same old story to teach young homies who like drugs guns and hiphop that they should get a new lifestyle and horrrors of the 'hood'. good visuals and all but boring and annoying script

Fake reviews

This movie started off cool and it seems like they ran out of money towards the middle story didn't make sense at times actually 94% of the time it didn't make sense like what was the point of half the story half the time it felt like things happened because it seemed like it was a good excuse for something major to happen

Realistic View of Life in the Hood

"Just remember it's chess not checkers out here and you got to be strategic." Nineteen Summers dives head first into the trials and tribulations of life in the hood with a fresh authenticity I haven't seen in awhile. The cinematography is clean and smart, but never misses a beat capturing the reality of the world that Nineteen Summers takes the viewer into. The performances were strong and heartfelt. Lastly, I was really struck by the attention to detail. The filmmakers do a tremendous job at making the story feel real in every detail, from era appropriate props (like the Blackberry in the beginning) right down to music selection. To really feel the hardships of D'andre's life, you have to be immersed not only in the story, but also the world, and the filmmakers overwhelmingly achieve this.

compelling story worth a watch

Good film. This is worth a watch. Director Rod Scott does a nice job telling the compelling and emotional story of a 19 year old De'Andres' journey to survive and find a better life. The odds are against him and his success and the film delivers in very real clarity. Everyone, not matter of their background, will be able to relate, or at least understand, the characters and situations. Many of the themes have been told in other movies but they play well here. Worth a watch.

Incredibly Real

An honest and painfully real film about life in South L.A. The lead character, De' Andre, has multiple challenges to face in his life. Police brutality and cultural racism not the least of those. For those of us fortunate enough to have grown up in better circumstances, the film pulls you into a reality that will deeply trouble you, as it should. I thought of the great Boyz 'n the Hood as I watched this movie. It has a similar power to that classic. Just very real and well done!

Filmmaker with vision

Emonjay Brown gives a very authentic performance as DeAndre in this very real coming-of-age film. The pacing of this film and structure interested me, drawing the viewer into the entanglements of the so-called justice system with the lead character so you feel you're experiencing your own one life stopped, powerless against forces on both sides of the law, yet striving none the less to make one's own life. The ending leaves much to think about, with a hauntingly beautiful final sequence fleeing toward a foregone conclusion. The chapter breaks are poetically named and evoke an auteur's sensibility about his story.

An action film that entertains as well as enlightens the viewer

This film has a lot on its mind, and the fact that it entertains as well as build awareness to meaningful matters that are plaguing our society is something extraordinary. This is a film that uses its genre to build a solid foundation of social subtext, to bring the viewer to the table to discuss what the toll of poverty leaves in its wake, and what great cost must be paid by those who try to move to higher ground. The film posits a coming of age drama inside the underworld of LA, and it is this personal story of a man trying to save his family (and his soul) that truly captured me. Emonjay Brown's acting gave the story its heart, and he was utterly convincing throughout. The film moves to a crescendo of redemption, and the conclusion of this story rattled me.

Great storytelling to keep you interested, excellent actors, excellent direction. Some might not relate, its a story of the new generation from the past generation, shows the more things change the more they don't , definitely not for everyone. explosive ending!

Well done indie!

Nineteen Summers is a well done indie film which gives you a painfully honest insight into the urban life in Los Angeles. Nineteen year old De'Andre has to face multiple challenges in this coming of age story, being a young father and in the mid of a turf war. It's real, well acted and superbly directed. I recommend this film.

Truly Authentic Feel

"Nineteen Summers" avoids any of the high gloss sheen that Hollywood tends to spray on their depictions of hard-hitting life in urban suburbia, and in the process delivers an uncompromising, no-holds-barred indie gem.

De'Andre -- played with some real savvy here by Emonjay Brown -- lives in South Los Angeles at the ongoing epicenter of police brutality (and every other form of social and economic inequity indigenous to urban American life). With a girlfriend and baby ratcheting up the stakes, his response is to hustle. De'Andre's mom is here, too -- she wants him to commit to a legit path free of every hustler's likely dead end. But temptation is a brutal force of nature, and a white guy with his own financial backing provides too much of it for De'Andre to pass up. As we watch "Nineteen Summers," it feels as if tragedy continually looms right around the corner. Sure enough, it comes striking down, and like it always does, alters the lives of those left to remain.

There are social messages embedded throughout "Nineteen Summers." Some arrive hand-delivered with a very real clarity of intent, while others shrewdly aren't always spelled out -- we're left instead to absorb their nuances and draw our own conclusions. "Nineteen Summers" is an ambitious film with themes the audience will recognize, but the execution here is powered by an awareness, and ultimately by a freshness of vision all its own.

Refreshingly Real

A hard-hitting, gritty, must-see movie! Commentary on the Justice System in the United States is woven throughout the film in a truly incredible and honest way. It truly carries the story of growing and living in the hood as a Black man in a way that's real and without the typical Hollywood sheen of niceties. I find this film incredibly refreshing in that way.

Powerful film!

This film delves into life for a young black man in central LA. There are no holds barred! This film is gritty and real. It almost makes me feel uncomfortable to see the situations he has to deal with as it should. The acting was great as was the cinematography. Just a great, powerful film.

Powerful film about injustice

Director Rod S. Scott paints a picture of how injustice hits members of the black community that is riveting, painful, real and honest. The performances, especially by Emonjay Brown are fantastic. This film will leave you thinking, highly recommend!

True to life storytelling.

A raw, coming of age indie film that is "true grit to the bone," with a bold statement that is so powerful that it touches you the core. It's straight forward approach and true to life storytelling is what makes it stand out from all the others in its genre. Nineteen Summers is one of those films that will be talked about for years to come.

Passionate

This was a really solid movie! You never know what to expect with indie films, and I mean that for both the good and the bad, but this one was deeply emotional and had an extreme sincerity to life's struggles. Definitely worth checking out!

Raw indie drama in the LA hood

Nineteen Summers portrays a young man who is trying to make a better life for himself, his girlfriend, and his baby who is on the way. All this while there's a turf war going on. And in the face of police brutality and systematic injustice for African Americans. Great Indie film.

Inspired Look at Complicated Lives

This is an indie film with a big heart. Nineteen Summers boasts some great performances by its leads, especially Emonjay Brown and Terri Abney. It tackles tough subjects without providing easy answers, and the lead characters are complicated and human. Excited to see what comes next for these filmmakers.

Moving and Real

Nineteen Summers is an incredibly moving film. I was immediately engaged with the story of a 19 year old father struggling to survive in the face of systemic racism and other unjust social issues that are all too common, unfortunately. What was most impressive about this film, however, was the very real tone and performance of the lead actor, Emonjay Brown. He's one to watch for sure, as is the deft filmmaking style of Rod Scott and his team. Truly worthwhile watch. Highly Recommend!

Honest and Real New Film

Nineteen Summers is fresh off its theatrical run and I was happy to see it is now available for me to watch on Amazon. I gladly forked over $2.99 to check out this new release in the comfort of my own home.

Nineteen Summers is an authentic indie drama about DeAndre, a 19 year old father trying to make it amidst a turf war in his hometown of LA. The film deals directly with a number of social issues as DeAndre is inevitably confronted with dilemmas about the right way to make it, as well as the always looming police presence and biased criminal justice system. I really enjoyed this movie. Nineteen Summers has something to say and it's a relevant film. The movie is shot well and looks high end for an indie release. If you're looking for an authentic movie about coming of age in urban LA, then check out Nineteen Summers, I highly recommend it.
