In this "bricconaggio" (a therapeutic catharsis realized without a psychodrama group) Ottavio Rosati reveals the story of a double cross trauma, he lived 24 years earlier. The first because of Fabio his young partner (rich in talent but born in a disturbed and poor family). The second because of dr. Mars, a famous psychoanalyst (his former teacher) to whom Ottavio had sent Fabio in analysis, paying him the fee. Dr. Mars, married and with children, having never done a proud Coming Out of his gay identity, did an acting out in his study making sex with Fabio, the patient he was supposed to protect. The title "Water Marcia's dogs" requires an explanation: it refers to the two cockers who accompany the protagonist to the Acqua Marcia fountain in the historic center of Rome: water that comes from an aqueduct linked to the gens Marcia (linked to Mars, the god of war). At the same time the word "march" means "corrupt" and "dirty". And this refers to a performance that cleans the director of anger about a hidden wrong too long. Rosati does it with a filmed catharsis rather than with a theoretical-clinical essay reserved for few experts.This decision has aroused both consensus and criticism but it was very healthy for him.

Ottavio Rosati dedicates "I Cani dell'Acqua Marcia" to Gustavo Rol and Padre Pio as spiritual guides who help him go beyond the catharsis. The film aims to show the damage caused by any form of external or internalized homophobia. Dr. Hide can fulfill his repressed gay desires only in the secret of the psychoanalytic setting. The true responsible of the trauma is the False Self of mr. Hide who envies and damages the True Self of the gay couple formed by his former student (Ottavio) and his actual patient (Fabio).

Blooper
In the first part of the movie, where he holds a painting by the Master, Ottavio erases the signature with a brush because at first he wanted to prevent the Master's name from being recognized. But he unconsciously delete the date, not the name that is on the other side of the picture. When he became aware of the lapsus, Ottavio understood that his unconscious was right and he included the name and surname of the Maestro also because he had been dead for years. Rosati did the opposite with the name of Fabio: at first the name was the real one but he had to mask it after Fabio's protests and threats. The lapsus is typical of psychodrama where errors are not just mistakes to be corrected with a new take but part of the text that emerges from the unconscious.
