Preis der Freiheit

Kommerzielle Koordinierung

"Preis der Freiheit," translates to "The Price of Freedom," it's a better title than "Berlin Wall" but it's a gripping series that undeniably brings historical events to life with an intense realism.

The story chronicles the period around the fall of the Berlin Wall, providing a deeply personal lens into the lives of individuals affected by Germany's division. While some plot points may seem exaggerated, they are actually rooted in genuine historical occurrences, enhancing the film's authenticity. If you're interested in the background checkout Wikipedia. Search for the German article "Kommerzielle Koordinierung" and auto translate it has more detail than the English stub.

The actors performances are heartfelt, drawing you into their struggles and triumphs navigating the treacherous landscape of East and West Germany, painting a vivid picture of both the oppression and hope that characterized the era.

Overall, "Preis der Freiheit" is an engaging watch, offering insight into a critical period of world history.

Absolutely poignant film about the GDR, and a showcase for how far hypocrisy can go

I watched this 3-part film a while ago, but I was very sad to see that it had no reviews, and I think it definitely deserves one.

This is a really captivating film. It portrays the last days of the GDR, and in doing so sheds light on some of the hypocrisies of the GDR state and its break with reality. It also makes known inconvenient facts about this state namely that it was partly kept alive via the financing of a decidedly non-socialist, outright capitalist business that the state itself founded and euphemistically called "commercial coordination", gathering foreign capital using all sorts of shady businesses ranging from human trafficking to arms sales, some of which are illegal wrt the GDR state law itself.

I found the performance by Barbara Auer (Margot) simply splendid. She really brought the point home about her character's careless pursuit of her own interests, all while the socialist principles she supposedly harbored went out the window. I can only compare her performance with Meryl Streep in the Devil wears Prada.

For anyone interest about topics such as the abuse of power, corruption, hypocrisy and human rights, this is a must-watch. Kudos to the actors and the direction.

An exceptional film about an exceptional period of time

A beautifully produced and crafted film with an exceptional cast, currently it is being shown in the UK's channel 4 programme "Berlin Wall"

It is a captivating three part series based in Berlin, encompassing the periods before, during and after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

For anyone with an interest in this time, or just wanting to watch an exceptional film, make the time to watch it.

Although the language is German, the subtitles are sufficient, although you do need to concentrate, as there are a lot of different characters, and it is important to understand the relationship between them.

However, it is well worth the time, and you will have a better understanding of the period, and be enthralled by an excellent production.
