loads of artistery, but too dramatique intrigues...

For me to swallow in one gulp. its a film about a show dancers, a troop called the family, a well driven troop of dancers, till the new instructor/director comes, as a part of a cutting budgets twist from the company running the shows everything is turned litterally upside down, and the crew members quits one by one like a diurnal fly, rather than getting fired.

its not a film with suspence and fun, its too dramatic to be that, but its so full of aerobatics, done by true aerialists, and for that reason the standards of true acting are at the average level. but what they do in the ropes, strings, lyras and cloths are just amazing, if not to say fantastic.

its also a film about aging, being treated like a burden and showstopper. its an anti labourunion flick, not with big demonstrations, but at the individual level. what a contract can be worth is easy to see by watching the aerialist.

its also a film about occupational injuries, and painfull bodies that often accompanies a life in sports and arts like dancing , ballets, gymnastics and acrobatics(and even in medical nursing) to mention some.

its not a film for the big crowds thinks the grumpy old man, its too slow and specialized to become a block buster, but to all of you with a hang to the subject, have a look, its a marvel of bodily arts

This is horrible.

It is not comparable to The Gymnast. Acting is terrible, overdramatized, and forced. Trying way to hard to be serious, sensual, and important.

Instead It is more concerned about creating some deep movie.

Turned it off. Snooze fest.

The Gymnast no. 2.

This film is a sequel to The Gymnast from 2006. Dreyer Weber is back in the role of Jane who now, 14 years later, travels around and directs aerial acrobatics. She's coming back to her hometown to put on a new show. Her ex-husband has just died and she gets her friend, Serena, to drive her to the house. It was Serena she left her husband in favor of in the Gymnast. And so there are many things that show back in the past, but there are also new girlfriends and friends. For me, it was wonderful to see these characters again.

Multi-dimensional storytelling and Artful Filmmaking

I loved the way the rich story unfolded and wove the subplots. Exquisitely directed, edited and acted. The diverse cast is wonderful and the behind the scenes look at the pop industry is fascinating and revealing. A brilliant portrayal by Dreya Weber, who leads a family of performers threatened by greed, ageism and injury. Highly recommend to those who appreciate mature complex filmmaking.

Full of twists and turns and I don't mean just the dancing.......

Awesome and much anticipated sequel to The Gymnast! I was mesmerized not only by the breathtaking skill of these aerial ballerinas but also by the intertwined drama of the stories and characters woven into the The Aerialist. The athleticism of the performers was matched only by acting performances. A brilliant all round movie with a twist that will catch you like a thief in the night!

Great artistry, nice story, loved the movie

To start with, I don't quite understand why this movie has such a low rating. I started watching it mainly in the background because I'm an aerialist myself and was curious about the movie, but the low rating put me kinda off. But I ended it up being glued to the screen. It's a good movie, with nice choreos, enough drama and a very sweet end.

If you're into action stuff, it's not for you. But if you're in the arts industry (and of an age 30+), I think it's certainly something you could relate to. Maybe, giving it all 10 stars is a bit of an overreaction from my side, but imho it definitely deserves more than some 5.1 stars, hence my choice.

So much truth , so well acted

An Beautiful aging dancer/aerialist has some huge battles to fight against including ageism and injury in a world where the young are revered And experience Isn't.

Blown away! Incredible story left me grateful for those around me.

I loved this movie. The true artistry in the story telling, acting, and physicality is apparent throughout the film. The lives of the characters were so complex and interesting and absolutely glued me to the film. It touches on so many topics in the field of aerial performance, the business of the industry, aging, injury, and what it means to be family, written and performed by people with extensive experience in these areas. The ending is so touching and surprising, it will leave you feeling warm and appreciative of those around you. There is something in this movie for everyone. Watch it!

Enjoyable like a fine wine

My wife and I watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. We almost didn't, given the negative reviews here on IMDB. I'm glad we took a chance. This is a wonderful film from beginning to end. The best comparison I can make is to Robert Altman's "The Company." I think "The Company" is one of the best films about ballet and the life of a dancer that you'll ever see. And I think The Aerialist comes in as a close second.

We went into this film with zero expectations. Neither my wife or I have seen The Gymnast, so we have no point of comparison. My wife is a former ballet dancer, so the life of the characters shown here immediately resonated with her.

We read the reviews saying that this film is overly dramatic. Neither my wife or I felt that assessment was accurate. Having been around theatrical arts for some time, I felt it was spot on.

Some people said the acting was bad. I simply don't agree. I fully bought into the characters and their plight. While the ending felt a little too "perfect" it did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the story.

If you're in your 40s, 50s or 60s and love dance, this is a film that you should watch. It's not a shot of Tequila. It's not a six pack of beer. It's a fine bottle of wine that you open and appreciate for all its subtle qualities.

Boring!

Okay, so as usual we all know where the 9 & 10 ratings are coming from! This movie was beyond boring. I paused it at 54:46 just to write this review and I don't think I want to watch the rest of it!
