The footage is awesome for sure. But other than that, the biased narrative is very disappointing for me. It focuses mainly on the sins of the communist side, also exaggerating it as much as possible. But at the same time, the sins of colonial powers are hardly mentioned and even diminished. When I learned that this is actually a French documentary, things became more clear. I have been to Vietnam, witnessed the marks of horrible atrocities committed by French colonial powers. Yet those are hardly mentioned at this docuseries. I am not saying the communists were innocent, they did plenty of bad things. But focusing only on communist atrocities and diminishing colonial ones is not ethical in my opinion.

Documentaries, in my opinion, are supposed to stick to facts. While there are indeed many facts presented in this series, they are also many opinions stated as facts. Documentaries are always "tuned" by the makers, but this one is much worse than most. If you watch this, be sure to investigate an alternate source to form your own opinions.

It's also unnecessarily graphic with footage of several bloody executions, so be warned.
