Recensioni in evidenza
Kanaa, directed by Arunraja Kamaraj, is a Tamil-language sports drama that intertwines the aspirations of a young woman with the struggles of rural life. The film centers on Kousalya (Aishwarya Rajesh), a determined young woman from a farming family who dreams of playing cricket for India. Her journey is inspired by her father, Murugesan (Sathyaraj), a passionate cricket fan and hardworking farmer.
Aishwarya Rajesh delivers a compelling performance, capturing Kousalya's resilience and dedication. Her portrayal brings authenticity to the character, making the audience empathize with her challenges and triumphs. Sathyaraj's depiction of Murugesan adds depth to the narrative, showcasing the emotional bond between father and daughter. Their relationship is a cornerstone of the film, highlighting themes of support and shared dreams.
The film also features Sivakarthikeyan in a supporting role as Nelson Dilipkumar, a cricket coach who plays a pivotal part in Kousalya's journey. His performance is understated yet impactful, contributing to the film's motivational tone.
Kanaa addresses broader social issues, including gender inequality and the challenges faced by farmers. The narrative sheds light on the societal pressures that discourage women from pursuing sports, as well as the economic hardships of rural communities. These themes are woven into the story without overshadowing the central plot, providing a realistic backdrop to Kousalya's pursuit of her dreams.
The film's direction and screenplay effectively balance the personal and societal aspects of the story. The cricket sequences are well-executed, adding excitement and authenticity to Kousalya's athletic journey. The cinematography captures the essence of rural life, enhancing the film's emotional resonance.
While Kanaa follows some familiar tropes of sports dramas, it distinguishes itself through its focus on a female protagonist and the integration of pressing social issues. The film's heartfelt storytelling and strong performances make it an inspiring watch that resonates with audiences.
In summary, Kanaa is a poignant and motivational film that celebrates determination, familial bonds, and the pursuit of dreams against societal odds. Its blend of sports, emotion, and social commentary offers a compelling cinematic experience.

An entertaining movie, really well made. Great performance from all the lead actors, especially Aishwarya Rajesh.
With better editing it would be a great movie, gets bogged down a bit at times.
Liked the way it deftly manages into weave multiple social messages into the narrative. Very nuanced treatment, gets a lot of details clear. Many memorable scenes which leave a lasting impact.

As I already mentioned in the title - this is another level cricket film that also gives you some social messages about our Indian society. All I can say is - watch this film because of its mind blowing strong plot and brilliant acting by the artistes.
"Kanaa" (dream) Tamil movie.
This is the story of Kawsallya, the village belle, her teammates call her Kausi.
Murukeshan, the farmer, Kausi's father ... his obsession with cricket and inspiring his daughter to be a world class cricketer... is the theme of the movie. Reminded of "1983" the Malayalam movie based of cricket ... in 1983 that father inspired his son to be a good cricketer and get selected to the team, here ... this father takes the story further ahead.
Very inspiring sports-drama, told in a thrilling manner.
Father-daughter relationship depicted against the village background, theirs problems ... how orthodox villagers fail to accept a female cricketer, lack of practice grounds and facilities, stigma of playing cricket with boys, the national cricket board hurdles, their North Indian lobby, politics.... God.... the canvas is huge.
Well captured pictures to give excellent cricket shots, to give a vivid picture. Hats off to camera work.
Music is handled with care, the first song sung by Aaradana Shivakarthikeyan is catchy and elevated the pitch of the movie.
Even though, story strayed off from the mainstream with unwanted repeated sentiments, the Director held his ground with the audience, well.
The cherry on the cake, is the strong social message about agriculture and the urgent need for more social support for it. This is addressed well in this presentation.
8 on 10 for this 190 minutes of cricket drama. Aiswarya Rajesh proved once again, she's a mature heroine. Shivakarthikeyan deserves a salute for selecting such a unique plot and infusing mass thrilling moments and making a 'female-centric' project ... a grand success.
