TIFF 2020 short cuts 31
stephanie
This was so powerful and so brutal that I wanted to smash the coach's face to the wall over and over again. Performances were great all around, especially the main child who played as stephanie was more than convincing. Overall this was really intriguing to me.

A direct, honest, almost cold portrait of gymnastic realities. An eleven years old girl wins her first international title. For this , she ignored her pain and the tenacity defines her in perfect manner. But the succes is far to represent a source of happiness, the pressure of coach, the phonecall of father, the tiredness creating a circle too heavy for the very young gymnast.
Especially when the purpose of coach becomes to save apparences .
At the end, admiration for acting - the young Charlotte Verwimp is real impressive ( not ignoring the possibility to be herself gymnast ) as Stephanie and for Sofie Decleir as the coach.
The virtue - no doubts the high realism .
