I appreciate doomesday, survival, apocalyptic type movies. This is one that centers around a typical California couple living in la-la land when an attack occurs. No food, no gun, no skills. It's only them an a looter in the movie. Very realistic scenario for 99% of California residents on how they would survive. .
Two people in the middle of a divorce struggle to survive a nuclear strike in L.A. it is so dumb, and they make so stupid decisions, that I kept hoping everybody in the movie died. Don't waste your time.
Knowing this was filmed in 2020 or earlier, we know who was President. This movie plays on the theme that the US would be drawn into many wars and sought to scare us that the Orange man would cause nuclear war. The toxic rhetoric of the President is how it's put, or close to that, before any action begins in the nuclear way of things.
I mention irony because no matter what your position on the sliding scale of politics, one would have to be willingly lying to themselves to not understand how much closer the world is to such a disaster today.
At any rate, I was thinking this might be like the movies from the 80s. I'm terrible at remembering the movie names usually but I think The Day After was the American film with Jason Robards but the British film title escapes me. Both were grim looks at the closest a film could make nuclear war appear as it might be in reality. Something like that I hoped for here...turned out to basically be what General Hospital would've done with a nuclear storyline...except I rather enjoyed some GH back in the 80s.

A beautiful, thought-provoking, suspenseful drama that examines what an actual response of a divorcing couple might look like during what could be the end of the world.
A really clever premise for a film. It's incredibly hard to write a film where only a few characters are stuck in one location, and Night Into Day is overall successful in keeping you engaged. I liked the opening and the montage showing the couple's creation and destruction - it reminded me a bit of that sequence in "Up." I could see an alternate world version of this film where Artemis, a supporting character, was the main character. His journey and arc is compelling and the actor playing him was very sympathetic. Ben Hall did a great job directing - even though the film is mostly shot in a studio apartment, the visuals never get repetitive. As the story and drama are solid, this is certainly worth a watch.
