It is always a regret when those who wish to criticise, especially in an ignorant way (compare budgets between their comparisons for example), and are not bothered to read the IMDB page despite having to come to it to moan.
This is a Dutch/Norwegian/German co-production and from the opening it is obvious, to those paying attention, that this is a young adult series (shown on Children's BBC - CBBC!!!!!!!!) which has had a large budget thrown at it.
There are a lot of characters to get to grips with (that wasn't a problem in Game of Thrones) and the story moves along at a nice pace.
The script and acting could be better but remember who the audience is. An engaging series well worth a watch. The background music can be irritating at times.
As an aside I wonder how it was shot e.g. for Norsemen on Netflix each scene was shot concurrently in Norwegian then in English.

This series obviously aims on a young audience (maybe 12 - 19y old?) and as such it's decent enough. The atmosphere is rather good, the acting is not great but ah well (a bit overdramatic, feels more like a stage play) but it lacks tension.
If this series was made for an older public I'd say it fails and give it 3 stars. As it is, for youngsters, its good enough for 6 points.
I don't really get the other reviews here but I for one thought this series has been entertaining so far. It started off quite good with a decent plot, interesting characters and in my opinion good acting. Some people say the acting is over the top but I don't see it that way at all. Others complain about the production value which seems rather silly to me as well. Then there are rants about it being a series for juveniles but guess what. This series is based on the book series which is aimed for a young audience! I only found out about the books after watching the first season though. Personally, I rather review this for what it is, rather than for what it isn't. The show is not without fault though. There's Nico's annoyingly bad acting - who seems to be the exception - and then there's the somewhat weak ending of the first season. Yes, there are certain events that don't seem to make much sense. But still...
I expected a mediocre series but I got more than I expected so I am looking forward to season 2.

Lots of plot holes and wtf moments but if you're like me and look at your phone while watching TV, you won't find yourself missing much here when you look back up

I´ve watched both seasons. It´s a nicely done european series shot in hollywood quality.
However it´s only loosely based on the books. The story is about ok.
What annoyed me since the middle of the first season is the fact that the protagonist is the chosen one. If there is any problem you just immediately know she is going to solve the situation without failing.

How did I not know about this series before now? Didn't expect much from this show after watching the first episode, but few episodes in I was completely addicted. Bit of a slow start in season 1 but season 2 was amazing. Hoping for a season 3 soon!

I want to like this show, but the writing is just awful. The characters display no intelligence, even ones who should be ancient and wise. They have no sense of urgency for things that should be very urgent. Obvious solutions to presented problems are completely ignored. Climaxes are poorly written and structured. This series is one glaring series of "why didn't they just do X, Y, or Z". It's like the show was written by a high schooler. I would love to see this show written again and done properly, but the form we are presented with is nothing better than a mediocre way to kill time.

I got interested in this series because of the books written by Ulrike Schweikert. Nothing of the original story remained except for the names of the main characters and the vampire families. In the books the heirs of the remaining vampire clans spend a schoolyear in each of the family's home country/ city to learn the specific abilities of each clan, which is changed into a "schools-ship" in the tv series. I'm almost always disappointed when books i like get transferred to another medium but this unfortunately another case, without the books in mind it is just another generic vampire/ dracula story sans the original appeal.
One of my friends recomended this for me and i didn't expect it to be that great.
I loved it and of cuorse not everyone can like it as much as i did.
I dont think adults will like it it could easily be very cringy for them.
(Sry for bad english)

I really like the diversity of the clans. It is as many others have written a young adult series and I kind of like that. Just finished season 1 and I can't wait to see more!

Didn't expect I would enjoy this one. Now I'm really wishing and hoping that there would be a season 3.
I started watching this show, knowing nothing about it.As I progressed into the episodes,I could understand why.The acting is cringy bad,and often very overly dramatic.
It reminds me of those children dramas from BBC,back in the 80s Like the Lion,The Witch and the closet etc.
It all comes off more as a school play.
As far as vampire genera goes, it's not good. This comes off worse than a "A vampire In Brooklyn"
The line delivery seem very forced and there by unnatural. Acting is sadly wooden and the script is horrible. I'm sure the actors doe the best they can,but there's no saving this,in my book

I have been searching for anything close to TVD and TB and so on... And never could find anything. Until i found Heirs of the Night. It has another story another life another soul to it. I really do feel if the directors and actors put some more soul into it this could be another award winning series. Well for me ofcourse. I have fallin inlove with this 2 Season and i want more and for those who want more please do not let this be another series slipping just by.
My husband is huge movie and series critic he is all about Lord of the Rings and Game of thrones and Braveheart anything that was rated the absolute best in the world. And for him to be impressed by this series. Well i think this a winner.
So please don't let this fall through again like Secret Circle or The Society. Please help us to save this one.

I love the international collaboration for this.
It says spoken languages are Dutch and English but there is no Dutch. The creator is Dutch but spoken language is Norwegian and mostly English.

SOOO GOOD. I CAN'T EXPLAINN😩😩GO WATCH IT NOW. i DON'T want this series to end. I want more seasons😍😍and more episodes😍😍
This is so bad, seriously. I get there isn't much budget, but everything feels cheap, Dracula's make-up and wig are clearly of poor quality, things are supposed to happen at night, but it is very very clear they filmed during the day, so you don't believe it for a second!
I see a lot of "it's for the youth so it's okay", but please: because something is aimed at a younger public doesn't mean the pace have to be so slow, the acting so dramatic at times, characters speaking for 5 minutes straight when they are supposed to be in a situation of danger, and especially... the cliches!! We're in 2019, do we still need so many cliches old of at least 20 years?
The vampire thing with each families having their unique power was what allured me to watch the serie even though it had already been done, but I wasted my time. Very disappointing

13 minutes in and all I heard was amazingly bad and on the nose dialogues with poor delivery, all I saw was Cheap eye contact lenses despite decent production design.Too bad, the opening was intriguing.
I won't give that show anymore of my time, this is an immature production, Seeing this a few days after Coppola's Dracula makes me cry blood tears.
