This anime was so fascinating and there were new things happening to the main character so often that it kept things very interesting. The creators of this anime did an amazing job of getting you to care about every side character. Even if they only get a few lines, you get a glimpse into everyone's personalities and it was very impressive considering how many side characters there were. The animation was so beautiful! The creators also did a good job with the main character in my opinion. Even though she can be annoying, they only make her annoying long enough for you to understand that annoying-ness is part of her personality, but then the scene changes right around the time I start feeling negatively toward the character. Then we see positive sides to Phos as well, so to me, I thought they had a very good balance of showing how annoying Phos could be, without making you dislike her/him. The season does end with several cliffhangers in a way that feels a bit like they stopped in the middle of the season, rather than having a 'last episode of the season' feel to it. It didn't bother me too much, though my husband was quite annoyed at how many unanswered questioms there were, so how the season ends may bother some people more than others. Other than that, both of us loved this anime and I am actually going to watch it again soon because I loved it so much!
An anime with horribly beautiful graphics and special effects. One can love these colours and their shine. The autors of the anime have created very vivid beings. Additionally, the story is also very interesting and well worked.
One of my favourite anime.

I don't have a lot to say about this anime, other than you have to watch it. The visuals are beautiful. The action and directing is fantastic. The tone just draws you in and creates a very distinct tone for this strange world. The characters are interesting, and the story leaves me with so many questions that I need as season two.

I'm a massive fan of well-done animes, and the last ones I rated really high were HunterxHunter, Tower of God, Violet Evergarden and Jujutsu Kaisen. I was looking for new ones to watch, and accidentally stumbled upon this imdb page... I couldn't even find it on animeheaven or crunchyroll, which really surprised me. So glad I gave it a try!
It's an absolutely unique and beautiful style. The characters are all fleshed out well and each one has a very interesting personality - including the main character Phos. The story engaged me from the very start and kept me interested all the way through; it's impossible to go into depth without spoiling too much though. It's funny, but also quite sad at times. A bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I just really, really hope studio Orange make a second season - otherwise I will have to get into the manga to get the answers to all the questions I'm left with.

This anime made me fall in love with it. It is not just about the drawing. It is how it made fell that gem girls are real and how it gave me the emotions and personalities of the characters. I don't rate shows that I like with a 10 except if I enjoy every second of it and wish it will never come to an end. I watched a lot of opened ending animes so I wouldn't be surprised if there was no season 2 but I wish there will be because I don't want my journey with phos to end here. Thanks to the memes that made me know this anime and it is definitely need more recognition.

Houseki no kuni or land of the lustrous here in the west is a beautiful action/drama anime with great characters, breathtaking visuals and a brilliant soundtrack. Usually CGI visuals in an anime are sub par at best but in this anime the CGI is so fluent especially in fight scenes where it looks like something taken straight from spider-man into the spider verse. Also the music is fantastic with most of it being violins and pianos even the battle music sounds elegant! Definitely watch this one right away! Here in the west it is available on VRV, Amazon prime or DVD.

DO I EVEN NEED TO EXPLAIN HOW GOOD OF AN ANIME THIS IS? Why did nobody tell me about this earlier when the chance was given? It also deserves a lot of attention purely from the artstyle alone. Solid 10/10 one hell of an experience.

Every episode got better and better until about the halfway mark, and then they all get worse from there. Honestly, I thought I was going to be able to give this show a 9 around the half way mark, but then I just kept getting disappointed over and over again. I don't want to go too in-depth in this review, but a lot like with other unique shows they try too hard and end up being confusing, and then everything ends up unresolved in the end. Literally nothing in this show has any meaning, either. Everything that changes is either very small or changes for the worse. The way the main character charged pissed me off too, like yeah she's stronger but at what cost? And they don't even address it very much, it just kind of happens. I had hoped she would return back and everyone would realize that they liked the original her the best after all (even though it's cliche). That would be ten times better than the ending we got.
The main thing that makes me mad is that there is no story. Sure, we follow the emotional journey of one girl in the rock squad, but does anything really happen? Yes, she is changed in every way possible in the end, but is anything else really changed besides that? It would make this show much better if anything actually happened, like there was a showdown between the bones and the soul, or something else happened with the flesh. I don't know, it just feels like literally everything that happened in this entire show has literally no meaning in the grand scheme of things.
One thing I have zero complaints about is the animation. Goddamn is it spectacular. It's not like it's the most detailed animation ever, but goddamn is it awesome. This show pushed the bar so high up for 3D anime, it's not even funny. The second best looking 3D type anime is about forty times worse looking than this show. I don't think that it would have worked any other way either, just with how the characters are designed and how some stuff looks.
Overall, I REALLY wanted to like this show, and I did, but it ended up disappointing me in the end.

OMG this was one of the best animanga I have ever witnessed in quiet possibly my entire life, the plot, the uniqueness, the world building, and the visuals. Everything about this is amazing and I highly recommend the title.

I liked it a lot, the animation looks kinda weird sometimes but it's okay, the characters hairs got me crazy lol. The protagonist is kinda annoying at first but you'll get used to it, it's a bit funny. I loved the three bits theory, you'll get there. Anyways, I got really involved with the story, I enjoyed watching it at the point I reached the end and just needed to know more so I'm reading the manga now (if you want too, chapter 32 is where the anime ended).

This was not a good show. Fight scenes were interesting but repetitive. Our main character is useless always and gets everyone else killed around her. The whole time I felt like they should litterally just kill the main character cuz she was so useless and again, got her friends killed. It also doesn't have a real ending, it just stops randomly when she is going to go see someone. No season two and so u have to see the manga.

Oh yes. This is such a good anime, I recommend watching it a lot, because in just 12 episodes you will witness literal beauty that lasts for quite a surprisingly long time. It is also a masterpiece of a hidden gem if I can describe it in probably more words than just one. Anywho, I hope you guys liked this review as honestly Im not a person that makes reviews often, not to mention this being my first review and honestly I just need to know wether or not this was an actually good one, so thank you.

One of the best 3D CGI animation I ever watch with very good background ost. Characters especially Diamond, Stile, Bortz, Antarc, Cinnabar and ofcourse Phos were also interesting and loveable. But it didn't explain some points that are important, well it's manga is still ongoing, so maybe we get more details in season 2 if Studio Orange renew it.

This is an anime with no plot, strange characters that the viewer doesn't really care about, with no explanation why their world is like that, no deeper meaning.
The visuals are eerie, but there was some effort put into it, that's why it's not 1 star.

I first stumbled upon this series because of some similar character names with this in Steven Universe, but this show is nothing like that one, not in the slightest. It's about a group of beings who are composed of jewels/gems, fighting off invaders from the moon who try to eliminate them and take over. In the process, the characters, especially the protagonist, Phosphophyllite ("Phos"), one of the weaker jewel people, works to gain strength and respect, as she works to find herself. Sadly, there are no LGBTQ characters in this series. Even so, it's still worth watching. That is why I give it the current rating.

A special hidden gem I discovered and watched it. A breathtaking anime with amazing animation, complex characters, Great character development especially the MC(Phos), intriguing plotline and mysteries. Definetly a show worth coming back to rewatch someday while hoping for the anime to resume. The plot keeps you waiting for more. The protagonist who started as a naive somewhat nonchalant childlike nature with her simplistic view of the world as she struggles to fit into the community with her other friends undergoes a tremendous development which changes her entirely to a different person with complex reasoning and purpose.
I've seen plenty of anime now and this one felt really special, i enjoyed seeing the main character Phos evolve and the fights were all gorgeous and accompanied with whimsical music. The side characters were also interesting which is always a plus in my opinion. It made me really happy even if the plot wasn't the best! I recommend this to people who wanna see something new unlike the 'classic' my hero academia-esque type of stories. (i do like that show it's just not my favorite anymore)

The show looks great and seeing phos change was intresting however it is cut short the last few episodes set up a lot but there is no season 2 (most likly due to orange working on beastars) so the show acts as a ad for the manga if it gets greenlit for a s02 it is a easy 10/10.

LotL feels more like one is dreaming than watching the 📺. It's so mesmerizing that it's nearly soporific. It doesn't seem to be anything else quite like it, so its sheer originality is refreshing as well. It's written, drawn, and acted with striking beauty. It is well worth the time.
This land is populated by people who are made of jewels. "Country of Jewels" is, apparently, a more direct translation of the title. They are the Lustrous, the embodiments of gemstones. As long as they're not destroyed or smashed to bits, they are immortal. They carry the qualities of the gemstones that they are named after. From that perspective, this story is educational as well as beautiful. There's even a nifty science-like explanation for life on their planet.
The Lustrous have an enemy. Lunarians look Greek in appearance, with Egyptian influenced headdresses. They're drawn to possess the Jewels' beauty, and systematically descend to capture them. The Lustrous Land's society, therefore, is built around defense. Strength, or resistance to chipping and breaking, is measured from 1 - 10, and split strength into durability and hardness. It can be developed and improved upon. Only the most durable are fighters. Recovery is also a priority: When attacked they may break apart into shards, but if all the pieces can be collected, fallen comrades can be put back together. That's Rutile's job. Everything is workable if they shatter, but what if one of them melts? They haven't worked it all out, yet. A slug will tell Phos that beings were split into bone, flesh, and soul. There's certainly something going on that remains hidden from common knowledge.
Based on author Haruko Ichikawa's manga, LotL is a 2017 Orange studios release that is rated 8.39 on MAL. It is 1 season consisting of 12 24-minute English dubbed episodes with CC available. Of the manga's 108 chapters, about 1/3 has been committed to the screen. The artwork is lithe and fresh between moments of striking beauty.
The story takes place at a school of sorts (should we call it a polishing school?😉). 28 Lustrous are enrolled there and the ever more mysterious Kongo is their teacher. At a mere 300 years in age, Phosphophyllite is the youngest. Her work assignment is natural history as, to her great disappointment, she's no fighter. She's too fragile and prone to cracking.
Diamond - she's the hardest, but she's kind. Bort - the most fearsome warrior in Diamond class. Red Beryl - wardrobe. Jade is Kongo's assistant. Antarcticite only comes out in winter. Watermelon Tourmaline is full of energy. Benitoite can't say "no" - she's too benevolent. Obsidian makes the tools. There's even a Zircon, and many more. Each character is named after a gem or mineral. There's many I've never heard of, such as Rutile and Phosphophyllite (Phos). (Per Wiki, phosphophyllite "is highly prized by collectors for its rarity and for its delicate bluish green colour. Phosphophyllite is rarely cut because it is fragile and brittle, and large crystals are too valuable to be broken up..." It has primarily been mined, strangely, from Potosí, Bolivia, New Hampshire, and Hagendorf, Bavaria - isn't that bizarre?!). There's even Cinnabar, a form of oxidized mercury. Her power is positively poisonous.
Phos is our lead. She's young and breakable but she wants to fight. In the early episodes she meets Cinnabar. Phos thought she had it bad! Cinn is toxic to the others so she's pretty much secluded. She does the night watch. Alone. Phos wants to find a better situation for her.
In the meantime, Phos takes questionable advice and starts trying to gain strength through dubious means. She ends up changing her physical makeup. One of her changes is Kintsugi, or Kintsukuroi, which is a Japanese method for repairing broken pottery by putting it back together with molten or softened gold in between the pieces instead of glue. The effect is not unlike stained glass. It celebrates the breakage rather than hiding it. "I was so spoiled. I'm jealous of my old innocent self. My spoiled former self." Those are words we hear more than once. More than anything, this is a story about maturation.
We should never stop learning, growing, or maturing, and the show's end is actually a beginning. I suppose the extremely popular manga will have to go on my reading list now.
