Movie without any vulgarity apporch, beautifully portray the story and the struggle of the model who pose nude for the students of art.

The movie with the great story and great visual specially give you goose bumps at the ending, water use as metaphor every where in the film. If you love dark grey blueish movie then you will love the colour and mood of the film. From composition point of view director put the subject mostly in the centre instead of like left or right (rules of thirds) which we see mostly in all the film.

Nude: Chitraa, Unveiling strength

Ravi Jadhav's *Nude: Chitraa* transcends the sensationalism often associated with nudity in cinema. It's a powerful film that explores themes of social pressures, female agency, and the resilience of the human spirit.

The narrative hinges on Yamuna (Kalyanee Mulay), a woman trapped in a cycle of poverty and domestic abuse. Driven by a fierce love for her son, she makes a bold decision: to become a nude model for art students. This unconventional choice throws her world into disarray. Society frowns upon her profession, and even her own son wrestles with conflicting emotions.

Chitraa's brilliance lies in its nuanced portrayal of Yamuna's journey. Initially apprehensive and fearful, she gradually sheds these inhibitions. The camera lingers not on her physical form, but on the emotional transformation she undergoes. Nudity becomes a symbol of liberation, a shedding of societal constraints and a reclamation of her body.

The film doesn't shy away from the challenges Yamuna faces. The disapproving whispers, the judgmental stares - they all paint a picture of a society grappling with notions of modesty and female empowerment. Here, *Nude: Chitraa* functions as a social critique, prompting viewers to question ingrained prejudices.

In conclusion, *Nude: Chitraa* is a powerful and thought-provoking film. It sheds light on the struggles of a woman defying societal expectations and celebrates her strength and resilience. By moving beyond the sensational, the film offers a nuanced exploration of female agency, social pressures, and the power of human will.

Auteur Cinema

I came across the international cut while browsing and the title piqued my interest. It is a provocative title and the plot about the life of real life nude models in the famed art colleges of india made me wonder how will it be portrayed. It is with these thoughts that I settled back and watched NUDE. The movie blew my mind. It is one of the finest films ever to come out of India and on further research I found that the Director Ravi Jadhav is one of the finest of Marathi Cinema. The camera work is outstanding and it makes you feel the anxiety, shyness and also the mixed feelings of shame and pride that the models undergo. The entire movie is layered and the camera work peels it layer by layer. Mind you not even one scene in the movie looks obscene or sensual. Now the two actors Kalyani Mulay and Chhaya Kadam deserve a salute for pulling off one of the most difficult roles. In our society and movies nudity is shied away mainly because it is taboo and also it makes it easier for the film to be watched by the entire spectrum of our population. In this setting making a movie where you are completely naked and the camera staring at you for long would have been extremely difficult for the actors. They are two ladies that need to be watched as each one of them have given a powerhouse performance. In conclusion a movie that will be watched repeatedly and one which will in the coming years become a case study in film schools and a cult film.

A strong social commentary that rocks the core of Indian values

This movie is a beautiful message that speaks about topics which are very sensitive yet important in nature. The way Ravi Jadhav captures the intricacies of sensuality and art while combining it with the societal pressures and burdens of being a woman in this world, making this a piece of storytelling that has a strong voice and challenges the radical thoughts that govern today's patriarchal world.

The movie starts with extreme foreshadowing and follows through with each and every action as a meaningful one. This movie while being called "nude" has nothing to do with the physicality of the human skin but teaches the importance of the bare soul as put perfectly by the character of Naseeruddin Shah (who correctly represents MF Hussain) in the film. The things that happen in the film are very real and feel visceral such the disgracing of art in a well known art college, burning down students work and MF Hussain (character but we all know who it is about). These thing happened and the mere fact that a piece of self expression can hurt the sentiments of our so called Indian culture speaks volumes about the hypocrisy of the far right. People who are ready to kill in the name of their lord and and treat women as second class citizens while they worship goddesses of feminine divinity. Even a mother is not exempted from this as the child she bears returns the favour in the form of growing up to be a spitefulness and ungrateful human being. This film is a personification of the hypocrisy, the bigotry of the human psyche and how it never ceases to existing only exists in cyclical form. Movies like this make you wake up from the deep slumber of ignorance and self preservation and acts as a strong tool to break the cycle. Otherwise these stories will vanish under piles of newspapers.

That being said, there were times the film showed some poor acting by the side characters. I was disappointed by the son's casting but by the end it was perfect and had no complaints. The lead Yamuna (Kalyanee Mulay) is an extremely talented and was very natural in her performance. The cinematography was decent and the composition of each and every frame was meticulously engineered to compliment the unique storytelling. My favourite part of the film is when Yamuna sheds her clothing for the first time and the scenes are beautifully crafted to show her emotions as she embraces her true self for the very first time. Her eyes swelled with tears and with those tears she not sheds her clothes but also her weaker and unsure self. This whole sequence is supported strongly with the classical music that truly moves the audience, as i was mesmerised in the scenes and the beauty of what was being showcased.

Nude not only captures the essence of being a woman and the strength it requires to fight the social tethers that are laid onto you but also the art that is used to depict those struggles. In the movie it is done through art an sculptures but we see it as cinema.
