Ano koro, kimi wo oikaketa

If you are expecting a high school rom-com with all the associated clichés, you will probably be disappointed. This is a much deeper, more thoughtful, and realistic movie. It's a movie about the pressure of having to find your way in life, not really knowing what your passion is while everyone around you already has planned out, about regret, about what could have been. It's quite childish at times, but I still found it to be a very beautiful film. The teenage carelessness and vulgar humor of the boys, who are all pretty likeable characters, is perfectly balanced out by the seriousness and ambitiousness of the main girl, who just radiates such warmth and purity. I really enjoyed it. And while the ending is not predictable and cliché like your typical romance, I think it's perfect and it's actually a large part of what makes the movie so good.

What a waste of 2 hours.

Seriously, just watch the original Taiwanese You Are The Apple of My Eye. It is way far more good than this remake movie.

"You are the apple of my eye" Japanese version, felt like it was pointless.

Having not watched the other version, I can't really compare them. But, judging from other viewers, it was pretty similar to the original. In any case, what I liked about the movie was the feel good vibes, the youthful story and the performances. The characters were interesting, unique and funny. I enjoyed especially the leading character. That said, everyone did a great job with the performances.

However, when it came to the love story, that's when things got out of track. The movie kept promising to give something, but never did. It was like watching those two going in circles and never meeting. So, that was disappointing.

So, overall, six out of ten.

I've watched the original version a few times and this one too but unfortunately this remake is quite disappointing. The 2 main characters didn't have chemistry and I really felt the characters' emotions is lacking and not convincing at all. Some scenes are a little awkward and cringey or sometimes there are scenes that was absolutely pointless. I would still recommend the original version rather than this one.
