Some wonderful acting performance mixed with intelligent direction...

Omerta as the meaning goes deal with mafia and their tactics. The movie is an intelligent blend of real life facts portrayed with great acting performance by Rajkumar Rao which surely puts him ahead of various A-list actors. The movie has a limited runtime of 1 hour 30 minutes but covers almost every dark aspect of the life of protagonist character.Certain scenes from the movie feel so real that they give you chills all over. But the X-factor here is the amazing direction which makes the movie an easy affair for every set of audience despite the confusing & dark theme. You certainly can't expect a positive message or a happy ending from such movies instead they are made for one purpose,to entertain and put light over the facts we mostly are unaware of.You can argue about the negative aspects of such cinema but you can't overlook the unmatched performances put in by everyone involved. The editing of the movie makes it stand apart from the normal bollywood movie league. From the point it began till it ends, you doesn't lose the connection with the characters. The boldness of the story and audacity to reflect the real image of the world force you to give it a thumbs up without any complains. The strong background score provide a certain pace to the movie and the music grips you with shades of foreign languages.

Well if you have a neck for meaningful cinema this is the best you can choose from the limited options.

A biopic dipped in cruelty, blood and hatred

Make no mistake; although Omerta is a full feature film, Hansal Mehta has filmed the movie in documentary style. The movie doesn't have any drama and is straight to the point. With a run time of 98 minutes the movie is compact and hard hitting. The highlight of this film is the performance of Rajkumar Rao. His preparation and research for playing terrorist Omar Saeed can be easily seen. He played the calm and violent scenes equally well. Rajkumar Rao took the murder scene of Daniel Pearl to the next level and it is one of the most terrific murder scenes ever filmed in Bollywood. The problem of Omerta is that the movie never looked like taking off and the pace of the movie was very linear just like in a documentary. The strength of the movie is its authentic setting, hard hitting performances and the good background research by its filmmakers.

Rajkummar Rao Shines The Most!

Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao's fourth collaboration "Omerta" is intense, violent and brutally realistic with its approach. It showcases the events occured in an Educated and Previleged Omer Sheikh's life from his entry into terrorism to his current whereabouts. It does a great job in so many places except some; where the lack of much needed depth in research material falters the overall representation for the aforementioned person and the crimes that he committed.

This film is a controversial one, as it was always bound to be. A biopic on a terrorist who has done many heinous crimes around the world; it does take a lot of courage to even begin the pre-production. As an avid film lover; I appreciate the whole crew and the director himself for taking such audacious attempt for the portrayal of a criminal mastermind. And that's not an easy task by any means.

Rajkummar Rao as Omer shines through the most. His conviction and commitment for the role is noticeable and certainly praiseworthy. I'm glad he chose such a huge and risk worthy project so early in his career. Truly commendable. Same amount of applaud goes to the team behind the Cinematography and Sound. As both were superb in their respective places. Some sequences have become more tenseful and unsettling just because of the clever use of lighting and subtle nuances carried out by the soundtrack so diligently. It's fascinating to say the least.

Even after so many positive outtakes, I still feel this film is incomplete in ways and didn't left a lasting impression. Apart from Rajkummar Rao other Characters Haven't got much else to do, especially the foreign individuals who played different roles were simply not good enough. The Character of Omer Sheikh, it seems unexplored to a certain extent. And some research materials too didn't delve deeper into the subject of modern world socio-political affairs nor any atrocities done by different governments for their own reasons and agendas. In the end it takes a mid approach & sort of plays a Safe game and left the ultimate Burdening question for us to consider and think about.

Now that could be a good thing for some others might find it a tad bit unfair. For me personally I wanted more clarifications regarding Omer Sheikh's personal life and his incremental change into becoming a pure evil. The sheer potential the script got, being scraped away by a conservative execution. I don't really blame the makers for that, as I earlier have applauded their efforts into it but on a serious note I genuinely think this could have been much much better had they been more sincere towards its impactness. Sadly they weren't!

A RAJKUMAR RAO Show

When there is Hansal Mehta on Director's Chair and Rajkumar Rao is in lead role, then what more do you want other than watch it. This is fully a Rajkumar Rao Show. Rao completely transformed himself into Omar Saeed Sheikh.

Technical Departments should also be praised as well. It's editing, lightening and of course BGM, there's some scenes where only BGM and Rao's expression does it all.

WATCH THIS FOR EXCEPTIONAL RAJKUMAR.

Average

I had higher expectations maybe from Hansal Mehta and Rajkumar Rao. The movie is basically a character study. Even though people might take it and use it in the wrong sense, but such movies too need to be made. Rajkumar rao was good, maybe a bit less intense than i expected. The british accent was very inconsistent and poor, and that i something which is important in this film.

Too good for bollywood

Love to see Bollywood's standard is increasing by making such top level movies with pure acting and amazing direction. Rajkumar is definitely an A level performer. The entire movie, it's environment and impact is equally appreciable. It shows light on the terrorism and brain washed intelligent terrorist. Music, direction and scenes are intense. The movie is a full package. I can say it's an Oscar level one.

Dark side of Jihad and terrorism are brilliantly portrait

Direction:

Hansal Mehta is famous for directing some out of the box concept e.g. Shahid, City lights and Aligarh . This time he picked up crime drama which is full of Jihad and series of terrorist attacks. He has tried to pull trivial details in the every scene.

Performance:

Rajkumarrao has steal the show with other star cast of the movie. He is totally get into character of terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. Good supporting role played by Rajesh Tailang and Rupinder Nagra.

Script:

Mukul Dev was working on script since 2005 but documentation was not complete due to lack of proper internet speed. Now they come up with real footage of terrorist attacks and proper documentations. It lacks two things : How Omar got addicted to Jihad. second sudden Ending of this terror saga.

Cinematography:

Anuj Rakesh Dhawan has brilliantly capture real locations across London and Punjab, Old Delhi, parts of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in India.

Box-office:

Total cost of the movie is 18 crores and First day it collected only 1 crore. So it seems that this movie will failed to recover budget of this movie.

Last Words:

If you are fan of Hansal Mehta's film making then come to cinema hall to watch different treatment.

Rajkummar Rao: The Next Superstar After SRK and Amitabh Bachchan

Rajkummar Rao breathes into the character of Omar Saeed Sheikh and the best part about it is that it looks like the combination of two movies namely 'A Mighty Heart' and the director Hansal Mehta's very-own 'Shahid' which featured Rajkummar Rao himself. The plot keeps you hooked and there is an unpredictable pace during the Daniel Pearl kidnapping which kept me hooked and petrified. This movie is must watch for those who are bored of masala-potboilers and overrated movies.

Bad screenplay. Only good thing is the acting.

Disappointed after watching the film, having heard such marvellous reviews.

Rajkumar Rao has done a fantastic job as the protagonist. But Hansal Mehta has done so much better than this in other films.

The screenplay is not up to the mark in any sense. We are jumping from one scene to another, without spending adequate time on important details. Omar's initial arrest, release, flight hijack, role in 9/11- everything is flipped through at a very fast pace while we spend such a long time on him luring foreigners before abducting them.

Also, the conversion of the LSE student to a jihadi is pretty unconvincing. Should have been explored at greater length.

Yet again a masterpiece from Rao and Mehta sir

One of the very few movies that make you fall in love with the art of story telling. A perfect blend of natural acting, cinematography, music and showcase of real incidents doing complete justice to the main plot.

Perfect start with a slow Ending

The first half of the movie is really good, but the 2nd half was kind of stretched. Rajkumar Rao has given his one of the best performances, the british accent he has took for the first half is really awesome to listen.

Disappointing!

"Omerta" should have been made as a documentary, and not as a movie, which was very poorly directed.

Underwhelming film with weak narrative

The film had a lot of potential given the context of real life events on which it was based. Unfortunately the script was poorly written with no proper character development - which should have been the central driving force of the film. The director's choice of randomly cutting back to flashbacks in the first half of the film made for a bad viewing experience. The lead actor Rajkumar Rao could've done a much better job of portraying the real life character authentically - rather than showing an incoherent mix of traits like cocky, fundamentalist but well educated young man. Kudos for the attempt to the film makers - better luck next time.

Superbly acted, masterfully directed, well crafted story

Omertà is a gripping and intense biographical crime drama about Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a cold-blooded, blood-thirsty madman British-Pakistani terrorist responsible for kidnappings, financing 9/11 and the murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl. He was caught and arrested in India for kidnapping foreign tourists and was put behind bars. However, was later released in an exchange for the hostages on a hijacked Air India flight taken to Kandahar in 1999.

Rajkummar Rao delivers a commanding performance as Omar. He portrays the chilling brutality which is quite unsettling and complexity of the character to the perfection and with ease. Convincing performances by supporting cast esp. Timothy Ryan Hickernell as Daniel Pearl. Well-crafted and masterfully directed story of a radicalized young man who becomes a hardened cold-blooded murderer. Crisp editing and well-fitted original score. Film is taut.

Omertà is a code of silence about criminal activity. It is an oath to not to give any evidence against a mafia to authorities.

A great watch.

Excellent movie

This is the first time I've seen an Indian movie expose the dark side of Islamic fundamentalism without being politically correct. Coupled with excellent acting and direction this movie is a must watch!

Below expectations.

I don't know what I was expecting but it was underwhelming. For me, Hansal-Rajkumar's Shahid was far better than this one. Or maybe I like spoon feeding. Whenever they showed real picture/video of the characters of the film it took me out of the zone.

Good concept, Great action, poor screenplay and direction

I was expecting much more from this movie, Rajkumar Rao was brilliant and gave a spectacular performance but the screen play and direction was weak IMO.

There was no flow to this movie at times it felt like different bits chopped and put together, in simple words the screenplay was the weakest link and the direction wasn't good either. Still Rajkumar Rao gave a stellar performance and carried this movie.

Its still worth watching although it didn't live up to what it could have became.

All in all it was a decent movie which will entertain and educate you, some of the facts are not correctly depicted but that is to be expected wit bollywood movies.
