The group is said to have started playing together in 1962 as The Popbeams, but out of self-criticism they changed their name to The Dung after a while. Philemon Arthur was a name that came up when they were jamming together. Before the group released any records, their music was played on the radio program "Bandet går", which was made by P3's youth editorial team in Stockholm. At that time the group also went by the name Hegbert Bruce's Picture Frames.
