Bobby Robson: More Than a Manager

9/10

Beautifully crafted documentary about one of English footballs true greats.

This documentary highlights more than anything, how much of a true gent Sir Bobby was and how sad it is that in todays game these characters are now non-existent.

I watched this documentary with very little knowledge of this great man. I was born in 1990 and by the time I was fully following football, Bobby's greatest days were behind him. I knew him as an Engkand manager and as a Newcastle manager, and unfortunately not much else. This documentary takes you through his career, with dialogue from Bobby himself, and other characters of the game such as Pep, Mourinho, Sir Alex Ferguson and Paul Gasgoine.

It is shot beautifully and is put together very well. It is easy to follow and gives a very good insight into his career. It is light-hearted and funny in places and then completely heart-breaking in others. The emotion (from Paul Gasgoine in particular) is very moving and the respect shown for Sir Bobby is beautiful to see.

Sir Bobby loved the game. A real old fashioned, football man. I would recommend this to any football fan. If you aren't holding back the tears by the end then I would be very surprised.

Excellent: 9/10

Nice guys win

The depth of humanity of Sir Bobby Robson astounds me. His legacy still dominates the world's biggest sport today, through the likes of Pep Guardiola & Jose Mourinho. Sir Alex Ferguson credited Sir Bobby for helping him getting started in management. The two most talented players of their generation: Ronaldo & Paul Gascoigne said they owe him everything. The best goalscorers of their era: Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker likewise.

The World Cup Italia '90 scenes and the recent interviews with Gascoigne about his relationship with Sir Bobby were the most poignant. It's as if Sir Bobby saw himself in Gazza: both born entertainers, loved people, incredibly talented in their own ways. I think Sir Bobby knew after retiring, Gazza would not be able to cope without the game, just as he couldn't. Most people who are into football already knew most of the stories in this film, but not this one. I defy you to not to be moved.

He had an encyclopaedic knowledge of football and was sharp as a button, yet treated all those around him with respect and compassion. Such a rare combination of qualities make him inspirational.

Mourinho: "A person does not die until the last person who loves him dies".

A loving portrait of a true gentleman

Beautifully poignant and refreshingly honest. The definitive insight into the thinking of a football manager featuring all the highs and lows. Great interviews with players past and current managers lend further weight to the legendary status Bobby Robson so richly deserved.

Pure joy and a show full of positiveness

I watched it out of curiosity as I am a fan born in 1991, so I didn't have a chance to live my supporter's life along with Sir Robson coaching neither Barca or Newcastle. Therefore, while watching I was like supporting that he would win every game or tittle that was shown in the move.

What I liked the most about him was his positive attitute towards his life and others. I really like him. I would have liked watching his teams play, I feel.

Rest in peace Sir Bobby Robson.

Tears of Turin

World Cup tie-in. A little too obsessed with the Barcelona chapter, and Newcastle come across as buffoons.

But you've got all the Mexico 86 and Italia 90 nostalgia that you've come for. And with Gascoigne's decline and Robson's cancer, you get a tearful finale.

Moving tribute to a true genius

Beautifully architected film which allows the man's brilliance to be juxtaposed with his humour and humility. I thought I knew about him but I learned a lot from this true celebration of a gentleman genius. And it made my dad cry.

An inspirational man both in the sport and beyond

Sir Bobby Robson was a real fighter and a real inspiration to sports and to humanity. The movie was great. Real in depth interviews with some of the world's current and past time elites in football. By the end of the movie I was barely able to hold in my emotions and had to fight back the tears.

What a man and what a legacy! A must watch for any football fan and an amazing documentary that anyone can watch and enjoy. RIP Sir Bobby Robson. You will be missed.

Fantastic

Regardless of the medium, good art makes you feel something.

This has a headstart because of its subject matter but watching (or immersing yourself in it) this made me feel so many emotions; joy, respect, anger, confusion and ultimately sadness.

I feel changed from watching this, if only for a while. Truly excellent.

Magnificent

A truly magnificent review of my home town's club most illustrious manager and gentle northern soul. Simply unmissable story accentuated by some of footballs current/recent best managers who all bestow their debts of gratitude.

Fantastic

A fantastic documentary on a true icon of football. Proud of his roots and proud to be english, yet constantly adapting to other cultures and embracing them.

A very minor criticism would be the whitewashing of any poorer career periods. Most notably (for me) describing Newcastle as Englands most successful European club in the 2004 season, a misrepresentation to say the least. Along with the inclusion of Gazza's musings whilst obviously being coked off his absolute bonce.

Ultimately though this is a fantastic and heartwarming summary of a true footballing great and an absolute gentleman.

RIP Sir Bobby Robson.
