One of the best animated shows I've seen

Invincible has been everything I expected and more. I never read the comics so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect but from reading up on it and watching the trailer I knew it's the type of show I usually like so I thought I'd give it a chance. I'm glad I did bc so far it's pretty really good. It currently has a perfect 100% in Rotten Tomatoes. The voice over cast has to be one of, if not the best, of any animated series ever. It almost has the star power of an animated movie. Just some of the star power it has is Steven Yeun, Walton Goggins, J. K. Simmons, Zazie Beetz, Seth Rogen, Jon Hamm, Sterling K. Brown, Sandra Oh, Gillian Jacobs, Ben Schwartz, Mahersala Ali, Simu Liu, Chloe Bennet, Djimon Hounsou, Jeffery Dean Morgan, Aaron Paul, Lauren Cohan, Jonathan Groff, etc, etc. There are so many more, too many to name. If that many stars are attached there's a reason and that's because it's a great show. I'm not saying it's the best animated show I've ever seen but it's close. You don't even have to be a fan of animated shows to enjoy this either, it has something for everyone.

So good that I'm mad at myself for putting it off for so long

It's 2025 and I just started watching Invincible and now I'm mad at myself for putting it off for so long. My brother said he was going to start watching it because of all the great stuff he heard about it and so I said "why not?" If I didn't like it I would just bow out. Well, I not only liked it but we binged the entire three seasons as fast as we could. The only good thing about putting it off for so long is that we didn't have to wait the year plus in between seasons and were able to watch them all at once. You can tell it was created by The Walking Dead creator because almost the entire cast is in this too, among many other stars. This is so much more than another animated series. It's so brilliantly written that has a plot you can't help but want to follow. On top of that it has the character development of a great movie and is beautifully animated. I can't say enough about this series.

Absolute Cinema

If you were into "The Boys" you will definitely be into this show, a realistic version of what superior beings would actually be like. Blood and gore check, great voice actors check, fantastic soundtrack check (recent episode included a track from the group Nine Inch Nails), great story check and dialogue that actually feels important and emotionally powerful . Only thing is that the animation could be better, but it's still great and some of the villains get repeated but it's following the comics so I can't really fault it for that. Omi-Man,Cecil, Mark and Allen the alien voice actors/characters carry this show!

I don't like it, I love it.

Great voice cast and a very good story makes this series a must if you are a fan of the superhero genre . I know this is from a comic dated around 2003 but i never read it and it doesn't matter. You can enjoy this without any prior info; its still pretty darn good.

Maybe you will need to be a bit patient for the story to clearly develop at the end of the 1st episode. From that point on, it's a winner.

The story arc between mother, father and son is excellent. And further on some of the characters which you will encounter are just phenomenal; Machine head, Robot, Rexplode and Cecil are just a few. They are also voiced by an amazing selection of actors which will entertain you. Let alone the world building; one of the best in the superhero genre.

And yes...it's super woke, but so what? It didn't affect the main story line and the connection between the characters.

Just keep in mind that this is an adult show due to the violence.

9/10 for the great voice cast and good story. Give it a go.

Incredible

"Invincible" is everything modern superhero franchises wishes they were. It is a great subversion of what the audience has come to expect from the genre, while at the same time relishing in the tropes that people know from the world. If you are going to give the audience something different from what they expect, that different thing needs to be good or even better than what they were wanting in the first place. The first episode is a great example of this. They set up a world very familiar to other superhero shows. But then, after the credits start rolling, the show swerves to a new direction that is even better.

INVINCIBLE Series Review

INVINCIBLE S1 Review: For context, this review was made on my Insta (@komododragongamer) on June 8th, 2021

So heres my Review of (INVINCIBLE) S1 it's a really great satire show of a whole bunch of characters that are inspired from DC Comics, Marvel and Darkhorse comics and etc. And there are some things in which I am excited to see in the future seasons ( and planned live action movie) more of this review in the next slide.

Ok so most of the show is really great a lot of talented voice actors and actresses. For example theres a Giant Cat Villian and he is voiced by the Classic LionO VC from Thundercats and soooo many cameos.

My One negative with the show is Amber because I think in my opinion she was poorly written in the last episodes Aka she had no real goal just there really.

My favorites are the twins and Robot, JK Simmons is probably the best choice as a main character and Invincible reminds me of MCU Spider-Man but at least he grows a lot more in character development than MCU Spider-Man.

Overall, I'm pretty psyched to see the future of this show and a possible live-action movie in the works. 9/10; just give it more episodes and a higher budget.

(Present day me here I do plan to write on the current seasons in the future and that way you the viewer can be able to see how my critiquing has improved since 2021)

Are you sure?

Invincible is a unique and thrilling series with memorable heroes and intimidating threats; invincible represents so many traits between the different characters.

Invincible is has so many things that a lot of other superhero series don't, the show contains more disturbing and a darker setting with a lot more gore and death showing the downs side to being a superhero.

Invincible also his fill is with action packet fight sequences and moments that leave viewers at the edge of their seats.

And the villains incredibly written either villains that want revenge or ones that are pure evil each rival that invincible has to face are just as threatening as the last.

Overall invincible is an incredible and fun watch for either people who are in the mood for gory action packed moments or amazingly memorable characters invincible has it all.

awesome tv show

Invincible is hands down a 10/10 show. It's not just another superhero story-it's way deeper and more emotional than most. The characters feel real, with their flaws and struggles, which makes you actually care about what happens to them. The animation is stunning, especially during the fight scenes, which are intense and sometimes brutal but never gratuitous. The plot keeps surprising me, and the show isn't afraid to take risks or show the darker side of heroism. The voice acting is fantastic and really brings the characters to life. Overall, Invincible feels fresh, exciting, and powerful-definitely a must-watch for anyone who loves superhero stories that have heart and edge.

What we needed in animated series

Invincible really increases the standards in animated tv or web series by showing good character development, emotion, great ton of action and pg-18 violence which is kinda cool. Best thing is, every episode is 40 minutes instead of 20 😬

omg

Invincible is an animated superhero series that boldly redefines the genre. Created by Robert Kirkman (also known for The Walking Dead), and based on his comic of the same name, the show combines high-stakes action, emotional storytelling, and mature themes in a way that sets it apart from other superhero fare.

At first glance, Invincible might seem like a typical coming-of-age superhero story. It centers around Mark Grayson, a seemingly average teenager who begins to develop powers due to his father being the world's most powerful superhero. But the series quickly reveals that it is anything but conventional. It explores deep and often dark themes, such as identity, responsibility, power, and morality, while maintaining a sharp focus on character development.

The writing in Invincible is one of its greatest strengths. The dialogue feels authentic, the pacing is tight, and the emotional stakes are consistently high. Characters grow and evolve in meaningful ways, and their relationships-whether familial, friendly, or romantic-feel real and complex. The series also doesn't shy away from challenging questions about heroism and the costs of power, giving it a level of depth that is rarely seen in animated superhero shows.

Visually, the show is vibrant and stylized, capturing both the color and energy of classic comic books while embracing a more mature tone. The animation shines brightest during action sequences, which are intense, dynamic, and unflinchingly brutal when necessary. While some scenes may be graphic, the violence serves a purpose in the story rather than being gratuitous.

The voice cast is exceptional. Steven Yeun (as Mark Grayson), J. K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, and a range of other talented actors deliver performances that elevate their characters and add emotional weight to the narrative. The chemistry among the cast contributes to the believability of the characters and the world they inhabit.

One of the most impressive aspects of Invincible is its world-building. The show introduces a universe filled with heroes, villains, alien species, and government agencies, all of which feel interconnected and thought-out. Despite its large scope, the series never feels overwhelming, striking a balance between world-building and personal storytelling.

Invincible is also unafraid to subvert expectations. Just when you think you know where the story is going, it takes bold turns that keep viewers engaged and constantly questioning what will happen next. This unpredictability adds a unique tension that's rarely found in typical superhero stories.

In conclusion, Invincible is more than just another animated superhero show-it's a smart, emotionally resonant, and daring series that pushes the boundaries of the genre. With strong performances, gripping storytelling, and impactful themes, it appeals to fans of superhero fiction and character-driven drama alike. Whether you're a longtime comic fan or new to the genre, Invincible is a must-watch that leaves a lasting impression.

STAND READY FOR MY REVIEW WORM

I went into this show with minimal expectations and just expected it to be some cheap, knock off superhero flick. Oh boy was I wrong. Nowadays, you never really hear of shows that get better with each season. This show has me more and more locked in with each season. The characters are well written, the music hits, and the animation, well that's where this show hits a wall. Quite a few shots just look like PDF images moving across the screen with no real movement and it can sometimes break the immersion. Overall, this show has impressed me and I do recommend it to anyone who wants superhero story that isn't in the MCU.

Season Two is DISAPPOINTING

I rated Season One 9/10, but Season Two was a huge disappointment. As a Robert Kirkland fan and an adamant reader of the comic book I felt Season Two has gone way too far from the source material. The storytelling and plot has become too convoluted and burdened down by whiny teenage emotional drama. Furthermore, it was bad enough that this season is basically a soap opera, but many episodes also turn into therapy sessions often with characters sobbing in tears. Maybe I'm old school but superheroes crying every episode does not feel very super. Lastly, three major storytelling tropes that I highly dislike are multidimensional portals, time travel paradoxes and numerous fake deaths put them together in one season and we all just wasted hours of our lives because each of these tropes fixes everything and anything. These plot escape holes have become redundant, frustrating and annoying. Usually, using tropes in this manner means lazy writing and a cash grab, thusly I'm done with Invincible.

absolute cinema

I bought the comics and i love both the show and the comics. Amazon definitely needs to pay more attention to invincible and give it the money to have super duper good animation. They already have a fantastic cast and all the voices perfectly suit the characters. 10 out of 10 every time. I started watching this show when season 1 came out. I saw an ad for it on youtube and it was like one of those ads your actually interested in and watch. I then watched the show and found out that it was a comic series. I think invincible is a well put together story. I also really like the walking dead and its comics. I cant wait to continue to see the comics animated!

hot damn.

I think I'm gonna like this show. Violent, irreverent, entertaining. Seems like it will be able to hit all the same marks as "the boys" but without budget limitations. Which is awesome. And the star power of this show is incredible. Seriously look at that cast list. I'll definitely be eagerly awaiting new episodes.

A new era for animated series

Robert Kirkman's Invincible animated series, based on his comic book of the same name, is a gritty, subversive, and emotionally intelligent take on the superhero genre. Premiering in 2021 on Amazon Prime Video, Invincible shocked audiences with its visceral storytelling, unapologetic violence, and surprisingly heartfelt character development. Over the course of its first 3 seasons, the show has consistently proven itself to be more than just another superhero story - it's a layered, mature narrative that challenges the genre's norms and leaves viewers questioning the very concept of heroism.

Here's why Invincible earns a strong 9/10 rating.

1. Subversion of Superhero Tropes

At first glance, Invincible looks like a traditional coming-of-age superhero story. Teenager Mark Grayson is the son of the world's most powerful hero, Omni-Man. He begins to develop his own powers and embarks on the classic journey of learning how to be a hero. But within the first episode, the series takes a shocking turn that signals it's not playing by the usual rules. The brutal twist at the end of episode one - where Omni-Man slaughters the Guardians of the Globe - instantly sets Invincible apart.

This kind of subversion continues throughout the series. It challenges the black-and-white morality often seen in superhero media. Characters aren't defined as simply good or evil - they are flawed, conflicted, and forced to make morally ambiguous decisions. This level of complexity is rare and refreshing in the genre.

Deep and Relatable Characters

The show thrives on its character development. Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun) isn't just a teenage superhero - he's also a student, a boyfriend, and a son struggling to find his identity. His arc is compelling because it balances the superhuman and the deeply human. His struggles with balancing his dual life, dealing with betrayal, and making impossible choices resonate with viewers on a personal level.

Omni-Man (voiced by J. K. Simmons) is another standout character. He isn't just a Superman clone - he's an alien soldier with a chilling agenda, yet the show never turns him into a one-dimensional villain. His complex motivations, his genuine (though twisted) love for his family, and his inner conflict make him one of the most nuanced antagonists in modern animation.

Even the side characters - like Atom Eve, Debbie Grayson, Cecil, and Robot - are given meaningful arcs. They aren't just background players; they each have their own personal battles, agency, and growth. This attention to character elevates the entire series.

Emotional Weight and Consequences

What makes Invincible especially gripping is that actions have real, lasting consequences. When battles happen, they're not sanitized. Cities are destroyed, civilians die, and the trauma is felt deeply. This is not a world where heroes walk away unscathed after a fight. Mark gets beaten, physically and emotionally. The cost of heroism is shown in all its brutal detail.

The series also tackles themes like parental pressure, moral compromise, identity, betrayal, and loss - all within the framework of a superhero story. The emotional core of the series is surprisingly raw and effective. The scene between Mark and Omni-Man at the end of season one is among the most powerful in recent animated history. The heartbreaking line "What will you have after 500 years?" followed by Mark's bloodied whisper - "I'd still have you" - encapsulates the emotional weight the show is capable of carrying.

Quality Animation and Voice Acting

The animation style may not be revolutionary, but it is crisp, expressive, and capable of shifting from calm moments to intense action seamlessly. The fight scenes are brutal and choreographed with a clear sense of impact. They aren't just there for spectacle - they serve the story and the characters' development.

Voice acting is another major strength. Steven Yeun brings depth and vulnerability to Mark. J. K. Simmons delivers a commanding and chilling performance as Omni-Man, while Sandra Oh's portrayal of Debbie gives the show its emotional grounding. The rest of the cast - including Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, and Zachary Quinto - round out a stellar ensemble.

Worldbuilding and Long-Term Storytelling

Invincible builds a rich, expansive world. From the intergalactic politics of the Viltrumites to the internal dynamics of Earth's defenders, the show lays down threads for a much larger story. Unlike many superhero shows that wrap up their plots neatly, Invincible is unafraid to play the long game. This makes the experience more rewarding, as early episodes plant seeds that grow over time.

Final Verdict: 9/10

Invincible is not perfect - some pacing issues and minor animation inconsistencies occasionally pop up - but these are dwarfed by its strengths. Its emotionally grounded storytelling, subversive take on the superhero genre, strong character development, and powerful performances make it one of the best animated series of the last decade.

It earns a 9/10 not just for what it is, but for what it has the potential to become. It's a brutal, heartfelt, and intelligent series that treats its audience with respect and delivers unforgettable moments. If you're looking for superhero media that challenges the status quo, Invincible is essential viewing.

Still Invincible

I almost didn't remember the second season. It was blurred and recalled as very boring. I had to repeat it and only then binge the third. It was such a great time and much better then I remember from the first experience. This series worth my time, so I gave it another chance and got exactly what I've anticipated to get.

It is so well crafted and has such good characters, but it seems that the core of the series cannot tell us anything new in this genre. "The Boys" has something different and new, except hardcore gore. This series is still not "The Boys" and probably will never be, but it absolutely defeats Marvell shows, with any difficulties.

The evolution of the characters - main and side characters was well made, and the show's flow is remarkable, but seems that maybe it has nothing else new to sell anymore. The end of the season gave us new direction, except some other new enemies and the morale issue is going to be played very well and hard, but other then these, everything was kind of "normal" - if that can be a description to this series.

Boy falls in love with (old/new) girl, with one of the weirdest love stories I have ever seen. Family rules, with another family member that matters. Side stories about a buffed alien, Rex changes his ways, Cecil gets a short background story, and we learn once more that heroes and villains can die easily or cannot die in any way, if they are interesting enough.

I don't like the use of multiverse, but this show makes a good use of this concept. It was almost tolerable for the plot to be mixed with massive use in other universes and this season this act got int high gear. The last episode had no need to use other universes, but found his super Villian, that remained to be explored and seemed like a flower that still didn't have the change to be fully blossomed.

It seems that almost all Invincibles' enemies are gathered not to let him enjoy his love life forever, but in that way, we got nonstop action from every and each direction. Personally, I would like to see wrapping of several rivalries, but there is still a lot of magic in this series that doesn't let me the chance to really complain. Yet.

Gripping, entertaining, but not perfect

Don't get me wrong-Invincible is a great show. But I don't want to focus on its merits, because that's what 90% of the reviews are already doing. So to summarise: it has amazing character development, mostly well-written characters, and effectively reflects many profound themes.

As much as I enjoyed this show, there were some aspects that didn't quite sit right with me, which is why I can't rate it a 9 or 10. The first would be the dialogue. While I did say the characters are mostly well written and often convey the emotional intensity of the scene, there are moments where the conversations feel rather corny or bland. This is most prominently seen through the character of Rex. I get that his dialogue is intentionally corny to reflect his personality, but that doesn't change the fact that it can be irritating at times. I also found one particular relationship between two characters to be superficial and purposeless (which I won't name here to avoid spoilers-I'll clarify who I'm referring to at the end of this review).

My second issue is with the animation. It's definitely not bad, but it's not quite up to the quality I'd expect for a show to earn a higher rating. While the fight scenes are animated well-capturing both the excitement and the gruesomeness of battle-many of the other scenes feel neglected. There are too many static shots, and at times the animation just isn't very engaging, which takes away from the overall viewing experience.

Lastly, I didn't enjoy Season 3 as much as Seasons 1 and 2. I'd rate the first two seasons around an 8.5, while Season 3 sits at a 7.5 for me. Still good-but clearly a drop. Season 3 felt more directionless; as a viewer, I sometimes wasn't sure where the show was headed. Several scenes felt unnecessary or didn't contribute meaningfully to the plot (including the relationship I'll reference at the end). It also didn't engage with the characters as tactfully as the earlier seasons did-though I will say the last few episodes of Season 3 were excellent.

This review focuses mostly on the show's pitfalls, but don't let that confuse you. Invincible is still an excellent show that's absolutely worth watching. I just chose to highlight why I didn't give it a 9 or 10, since the positives have already been well covered by most other reviews. Its character development, powerful exploration of themes like trust, relationships, and transformation, and its refreshing use of violence-not gratuitous, but purposeful-make it a standout show.

(Spoiler warning) The relationship I referred to earlier was Eve and Mark's. I felt their connection lacked proper buildup and suddenly jumped into romance without much emotional grounding. I also didn't like how prominently this was featured in Season 3, especially since it didn't add much to the story. Compared to Mark and Amber's relationship-which revealed much more about Mark's internal conflict and developed both characters meaningfully-Mark and Eve's relationship felt rushed and superficial.

Season two

Season one of Invincible was probably one of the best debut seasons of any show ever - the hype was so high heading into season two but I can't help but feel that it was disappointing. I'm not sure if it was the long wait between seasons or if it was the pretty lengthy gap between the first and second half of season two but my interest sort of fizzled out. What was put out wasn't exactly bad but something about it wasn't season one. Maybe season one set the bar so high? I am not a reader of the comics so I can't comment on the accuracy of events or what was supposed to happen. With that out of the way I do have to get to the positive. The voice acting continues to be some of the best I've ever seen. Steven Yeun really is an elite talent. The action sequences were on par with season one - everything looked smooth. I very much liked being off planet Earth for a good portion of the episodes. I hope season three can bring back that feeling I had after finishing season one. MORE OMNI-MAN.

I really wanted to like this, but . . .

This show was very inconsistent. People sometimes complain that episodes can be inconsistent where they have rotating writers/directors/etc. On a per episode basis (c.f. "Dark", where creative control was maximized). Invincible, however, took this problem to the extreme. Invincible seemed like it was made by multiple people who were all given a different scene to work on with no one person in charge - multiple times per episode it would alternate between plotlines seemingly intended for very young children and scenes intended for edgy teens or twenty-somethings.

Overall, this could have been a good kids' show or a good show for older teen and young adults, but instead it fails on both fronts. The themes that are "adult" are too simplistic to appeal to anyone with life experience and probably too graphic (violence and language) for most parents of young children. The childlike themes are so simplistic I can't imagine any teenager or adult finding much entertainment value (and certainly nothing much to ponder) within. There was clearly talent among the cast, and certain plotlines were interesting, though not fully realized or explored. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth slogging through the 95% of muck to find the 5% of gems.

When I was told that Invincible was a show for adults, and having seen the rating here on IMDB, I thought I would find something on par with "Dark" or, for an animated example, Shinkai's "Garden of Words" or, hell, even "South Park" in mind. That is to say; I presumed it would deal with complex themes and concepts that would either be relatable or interesting to adults... It doesn't. For the most part, it merely takes simplistic children's themes and adds violence, blood and swearing. If you are looking for something with mature plotlines and themes - and don't think adding vulgarity and violence make a kid's show "mature" - give it a pass.

Promising

I watched the first episode and after the ending i just had to binge watch the next two. It was just as mindblowing as when i first read the Omniman arc.

I don't know why people are so mad that there's gore in this show. I mean, it's not for kids, the story is mature and trust me, if there were superheroes and supervillains in real life, the gory deaths would be an everyday thing. I have read all the comic book series and for the people that thinks everything is predictable i just have to say that they're right... and they're totally wrong as well. Just keep watching.

The plot is well written, characters are credible, voice acting is good, animation is not perfect but not bad either. I'm getting hyped with every episode and i just can't wait to things that will come next. Mindblowing will be a recurring word as you watch this show.
