The Recruit’s leading star, Noah Centineo, has opened up about the show’s cancellation for the first time. Centineo portrays the lead role of Owen Hendricks in The Recruit, which follows a CIA lawyer who becomes involved in an international conflict. The show aired its first season in 2022 and then followed that up with its second season earlier this year on January 30. However, despite a strong run atop Netflix streaming charts,The Recruit was canceled at the start of March while it was still in Netflix’s top 10. Noah Centineo recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to express his disappointment with the series being canceled and also shared some insight into why he thinks Netflix decided not to move forward with another season:
"It is what it is. Netflix, they have a certain mandate that they need to fill, and I’m very proud of the show, very grateful to our audience.

Before "La La Land" was causing chaos at the Oscars, musicals were putting the ceremony in another mini-crisis back in 2008. That was the year that saw the box office hit "Enchanted" (a Disney kids film starring Amy Adams) nominated for three songs: "Happy Working Song," "So Close," and "That's How You Know." Those tunes lost to a ditty from the lesser-known Irish film "Once," titled "Falling Slowly."
The year before, another popular musical in the form of "Dreamgirls" (which is about a 1960s music trio and stars Beyoncé) was also nominated for three songs, all of which also lost to a movie with only one nomination. That time the winner was "I Need to Wake Up" from Davis Guggenheim and Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." This was the first time a documentary had ever won the award.

[The story contains spoilers for the new Netflix release Emilia Pérez.]
If you’re hearing about it for the first time, you may find your head spinning at the number of genres invoked by the new Netflix awards hopeful Emilia Pérez. The French auteur may have been a little daunted by the challenge himself, “How much time do we have?” said Jacques Audiard (A Prophet), when asked after the New York Film Festival premiere Monday night how he set about developing his latest picture.

The sci-fi horror film Afraid is the latest creepy offering from Blumhouse Productions. However, the movie seems to have fallen flat at the box office, becoming one of the company's lowest earning projects.
According to Variety, the movie was projected to earn 3.7 million domestically during its three-day opening weekend. It's four-day Labor Day holiday weekend gross was expected to be about $4.4 million. Afraid eventually brought in $1.3 million on its first day, with $400,000 coming from Thursday night previews. Internationally, the film earned $2.3 million from 19 different markets. The total is Blumhouse's worst ticket takings since Jem and the Holograms earned $1.4 million in 2015.

Warning: this Doctor Who review contains spoilers.
It’s all fun and games until someone steps on a mine.
There has certainly been peril in Ruby Sunday’s first few adventures with the Doctor. Being briefly erased from history, babies abandoned to die in space, nuclear winter brought on by chaos god – you don’t just shrug those things off. But even the darkest moments have occurred in the context of fairly light-hearted romps.
With the tense, riveting “Boom”, however, we have the first real example of this new companion going through a genuinely traumatic ordeal. It’s sort of Ruby’s “The Fires of Pompeii”, albeit with a much cheerier ending – the episode where the companion realises that travelling with the Doctor can get pretty rough. By its nature, it’s the kind of adventure that comes after some bedding in – you can’t start a companion’s tenure...

A decade into her solo career, Beyoncé effectively evaded irrelevancy by wresting control of her own narrative. After her 2011 album 4 failed to produce a Top 10 hit—to date, her only album to do so—the singer began dropping albums without any pre-release promotion, sidestepping chart expectations and reimagining the traditional pop album release strategy. Since then, she’s done few interviews and often glides into awards shows donning dark shades and a straight face, shrewdly creating a superstar mystique in the vein of Michael Jackson and Prince.
That approach, thankfully, has been accompanied by some of Beyoncé’s most creative, political, and inspired work to date. Her 2016 visual album Lemonade drew on her personal experiences as a Black woman to comment on feminism and racism in the Me Too and Black Lives Matter era, while its follow-up, 2022’s Renaissance, kept the focus squarely on the music, inspired by and dedicated...

Beyonce‘s career breakthrough came in the 1990s as a teenage member of Destiny’s Child. But since then she has established herself as one of the biggest music stars of the 21st century. So naturally it’s challenging to narrow down the greatest hits of her career … not that we let that stop us from trying, though. Scroll down for our countdown of her best songs — including “Countdown”! Do you agree with how we rank them?
Destiny’s Child had several hits including “Survivor” and “Bills, Bills, Bills,” but it was “Say My Name” that earned Beyonce her first Grammys when she was only 19: Best R&b Duo/Group Performance and Best R&b Song. She has since become one of the most awarded individuals in Grammy history, the most awarded woman in history, and the most nominated woman in history. But most of the top categories have eluded her.

“I can’t believe we’re winning a Grammy, ladies!” said Beyonce to Destiny’s other children Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland when the trio accepted Best R&b Duo/Group Performance for their single “Say My Name.” Beyonce was only 19-years-old at the time. Queen Bey won three Grammys with Destiny’s Child overall. In addition to this prize, they collected Best R&b Song for “Say My Name,” and in 2002 they won Best R&b Duo/Group Performance again for “Survivor.” Not long after that Beyonce struck out on her own, and her star rose higher than anyone probably would have guessed from watching that unassuming teenager up on that stage with trophy number-one.

Sony Pictures’ upcoming 2023 and 2024 theatrical slate just received a massive shakeup, Deadline reports today, due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike. Kraven the Hunter, the Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sequel, Venom 3, and They Listen are among the impacted films.
With guild actors unable to promote their films, expect quite a few delays from Sony’s upcoming theatrical slate, with dates subject to change even further.
Up first to receive delays is the R-rated Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron). The official red band trailer debuted last month introduced Kraven’s origin story, while teasing several sequences of bloody mayhem. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to see just how bloody Kraven’s origin story gets, as Sony bumped the release fate from October 6, 2023 all the way to August 30, 2024, where it’ll open Labor Day weekend.

Ric Wilson, Chromeo, and A-Trak have cooked up a new project called Clusterfunk. Stream it below via Apple Music or Spotify.
Canadian DJ A-Trak introduced his fellow Montreal natives Chromeo to Ric Wilson’s music in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Inspired by the social movements of the moment, the artists convened with the Chicago rapper in California to forge a project steeped in socialism and communism, set to a mix of funk, soul, and hip-hop. King Louie, Felicia Douglass of Dirty Projectors, Stic.Man of Dead Prez, Kiéla Adira, and Mariame Kaba feature on the project.
Title track “Clusterfunk” alternates between stark verses from Wilson — who poses questions like “If it wasn’t in the bible, would you call it sin?/ If Dylan Roof wasn’t white, would they let him live?” — before Chromeo de-escalate his moral questioning with a classic sing-along chorus, crooning, “Welcome to the...

Before diving into this week’s Bioshock discussion, would you kindly give last week’s episode covering Hunt: Showdown a listen?
At the inception of Safe Room, Neil and I had both made mental checklists of games we simply Had to talk about on the show. Games that we felt so passionately about that one of us would have to whack the other with a stick to get a word in edgewise.
For me, that game would be Bioshock.
Experiencing the descent to the underwater dystopia of Rapture will forever be a formative moment in my gaming history. It sounds like hyperbole, but at the time, Bioshock truly opened my eyes to the storytelling potential of video games.
In an era where my high school days primarily consisted of playing shooters until the wee hours of the morning with friends, Bioshock presented me with a rich, thematically laced world that...

U.S. born British filmmaker Aaron Brookner (“Uncle Howard”) is plotting his first Nordic noir, slated for a market debut at Haugesund’s Nordic Co-Production Market, part of the leading Scandinavian confab New Nordic Films (Aug. 23-26).
Based on the novel “A Gift to My Mother” by London-based Finnish author and journalist Jouko Heikura, the thriller is being written and produced by Brookner and Paula Alvarez Vaccaro, co-founders of pedigreed Pinball London, which acquired rights to the book and handled the English-translation for the pic’s initial development stage.
The novel was brought to them by their Finnish co-producer Pauliina Stahlberg, credited for Netflix crime drama “Deadwind,” Seasons 2 & 3.
The story – slightly altered for screen purposes- – centres on a London-based human rights female lawyer, as she attempts to solve the mystery of a crime committed years ago against her terminally ill Finnish mother. Her rogue investigation takes her to a suspicious neighbour,...

Listen is a film that will make you cry, but more importantly, it will just make you really angry. Angry at the system it portrays, as a film that shines a harsh light on the social services industry, and a labyrinthine process. Yet the film doesn’t judge the individuals, but the system they’re placed within. To mark the release of this moving film, we had the pleasure in speaking to two of the film’s leads, Lúcia Moniz & Sophia Myles. We discussed their knowledge of the world they inhabited in this film, and on themes director Ana Rocha is portraying. What transpires here is a fascinating chat with two talented actresses, that go into depth about their roles and careers. Be sure to watch the full interview below.
Synopsis
In the London suburbs, Bela and Jota face serious difficulties when “social services” raise concerns about the safety of their three children.

It was far from a surprise, but Tuesday’s 2022 Oscar nominations crowned Queen Bey for the first time thanks to “King Richard.”

Watch the Trailer for Doors: "Without explanation or warning, a number of mysterious, alien “doors” suddenly appear in every corner of the globe. While many of those that encounter these sentient visitors feel the strange urge to interact with them – never to be seen again – others stay behind to face the potential threat of what their ultimate agenda towards mankind is. The Academy on Friday unveiled to its voters a record 93 films will compete in the Best International Feature Film category — which will no doubt leading to a busy four weeks of viewing before first-round voting begins on Feb. 1.
Helped by Covid-inspired rules that relaxed the usual entry requirements, the films topped the record of 92 entries set in 2017, as TheWrap suggested they likely would in December. The films include a record 34 female directors, seven more than the previous high of 27 set last year.
This is not the official list of qualifying films, which is expected to be released by the Academy later in January. But these 93 films are all in the members-only online screening room devoted to the category, and each of them has been put on a “required viewing” list for one-fourth of the voters. It is unlikely that any of the films will be disqualified at this point, although...

Throughout part one of Selena: The Series, we get a glimpse into the late Mexican-American star's life, with a vivid depiction of her childhood. From her start singing in restaurants with her family, to filling stadiums in her early 20s, the series makes sure to paint a whole picture of Selena's story. The singer's tale is truly inspiring, especially since the series portrays Selena's childhood truthfully and candidly, depicting economic hardship that led the Quintanillas to stand in line for food stamps. Madison Taylor Baez is the actress who plays young Selena in the Netflix show, and we were immediately struck by her true-to-life portrayal of the singer - not to mention her incredible, beyond-her-years singing voice. In case you were wondering whether Baez actually sings that well - shockingly, she truly does.
At just 9 years old, Baez is already an accomplished singer, known as the "Anthem Girl" for...
