Not a bad movie but the plot twist ruined it

Not a bad movie though

Less than 20minutes in, and I couldn't stand Sofie. Did they have to make the character so selfish and self centred? She spoilt it for me because from then on I was biased by her character and barely concentrated on the rest of the movie objectively.

A plot twist that ruins the whole movie

This was quite an intriguing watch, all the way up to the last 10 minutes when the plot twist came. I don't want to say what it was, but I will say it is completely without logic and just made me think, 'are they having a laugh?' it was so ludicrous and makes the previous hour and 15 minutes seem like a waste of time.

good movie but...

I enjoy this movie but his girlfriend character got on my last nerves with the needy attitude and controlling ... if you can look beyond that than the movie is good.

Fun, but doesn't withstand too much scrutiny

With a little refinement this low-budget sexy sci-fi movie could have been seriously gripping and ultimately shocking. The central premise about interactions between humans and robots is intriguing and thought-provoking. It's offers some creepily sensual scenarios. The leads are good - especially Steven Strait as the robot, Henry. And it delivers some strong surprise twists toward the end. It's just a shame that the story is undermined by a sluggish start and a particularly annoying characterisation of the wife, Sofie, who is infuriatingly unlikeable. For the most part, however, it's quite well written - although the final plot twists needed more finessing. Still, worth a look.

Too hot to handle

Sofie character worthy of contempt but necessarily so (and strangling as one other Reviewer observed - with whom I agree).

Drove her husband away and eventually into a bathroom meeting with Henry the robot.

The bathroom scene between Strait, the robot, and Van Acker, the husband, was very, very sensual. Too hot to handle for me.

I do not know how those 2 did it but they made that scene seem natural and real. Not to mention the 2 of them have natural, non-steroid induced builds that makes the rest of us guys look bad. And they are both eye candy, even a guy like me can see that from a mile away.

About the nature of love, lust and love lost. Kind of like Romeo and Juliet plus Other where Other does the ultimate sacrifice. Convenient for the 2 humans.

The robot too human and a lesson of giving oneself unconditionally for the 2 humans and the audience.

Good show, sensual, philosophical, I liked it a lot.

What am I?

Life Like asks the same question all people ask themselves but it does so, from a different perspective.

This is a thoughtful, intriguing little film, that reminds us rather subtly of how we take what and who we are, very much for granted.

Acting is decent and the main character Henry is portrayed with a calm, endearing charm that keeps you watching.

There's an interesting twist in the end too I did not see coming. 6/10 from me.

Intriguing philosophical sci-fi

If anything, this movie really makes you think about humanity in an unconventional way. The plot, although not without its flaws, is intriguing and original. I for one enjoyed the ending, although it could have been made more believable with some minor plot devices and addition of some small scenes (read the spoiler reviews if you want to know more).

The main characters were all certainly eye candy, and although their dialogue was a bit stilted at times, all actors did a commendable job. Particularly enjoyed the performance of Steven Strait, which was integral in tipping this film into the territory of a quality watch. No one can play an android with the panache of Michael Fassbender's David, but I think Strait did an admirable job.

You will encounter one of the most annoyingly written characters in Sofie, but if you can get beyond that, this is actually a very solid philosophical sci-fi. Certainly ranks much higher than its current rating of 5.4.

Perfect (?)

The movie has quite some interesting ideas and notions. It does try to paint a picture where the humans are flawed ... to contrast the ... well "not human" they get to help them out. But is he helping them out or are they helping him? And what could be considered help anyway? So many questions outside the philosophical and ethical ones ... not that many are answered clearly. You'll be the judge.

Not perfect by a long shot, but intriguing to say the least. Watch it if you are into Science Fiction - acting is ok too.

Hated it

I absolutely did not like the spoiled wife! I found her character completely unsympathetic. I never saw such a selfish, self centered, morally superior person in my life. The husband I liked and felt sorry for as well as Henry too. But this movie was maddening. I couldn't wait for it to end! That's almost an hour and a half I'll never get back! Hope experience is a lot better than mine, but if it isn't, you've been warned.

Don't believe the negative reviews

Sure it's got lag, but that's what makes it special.

Just when you think it's trying to be the next Ex-Machina teaching you about life and love, relationships and humanity the second half makes good on the misdirection from the first.

I really liked this and I'll be scouting out this directors other films as he's obviously underrated to spit this out to -On Demand- with no big announcement.

The chatter has started and I'm leading with a big ol' "watch this"

  • it's not going to blow your mind but it certainly has its merits.

A times, brilliant

Overall an original and striking film. There are certain scenes where the script is brilliant and it is a film that really makes some interesting points. Flow is good, though some bits seem stilted...like the business which we never really know what it does and never see more than a handful of people in. Despite this, the main actors are good and the twist is excellent and unexpected. I wish they had done the build up and reveal better, and not had much film after the twist was revealed as it would have had greater impact.

But anyway, worth the watch.

A total waste of time

What a horrible movie. I like Steven Straight and I wish he had just turned down the role. The writing and directing are just terrible for the possibilities of the subject matter. I seriously feel like whoever wrote this has or has had a psychotic wife that is or was never happy, even when she was making him miserable! Seriously, the wife character in this move made me want to throw her out and divorce her even though we've never even met! Pretty bodies to look at but this was a TERRIBLE MOVE ALL AROUND!
