Don't believe the media

The series is not fat-shaming, transphobic or homophobic. It's the opposite, actually. The trans people from the LGBTQ people saved the day in one of the episodes, her best friend's story arc was handled respectfully and the series showed that becoming thinner didn't improve Patty's life. It's a DARK COMEDY. IT'S SATIRE. Of course it's a little on the edge. The first few episodes will make you feel ambivalent, but it gets better. Just keep watching and it's a decently entertaining watch.

Just gotta add, Dallas Roberts' acting, especially in the last few episodes, was incredible. I spent quite a while admiring all those ambivalent and conflicting emotions his face expressed.

Pretty funny

The humor is adult, they swear like normal people, and anyone that spent their school years in the fringes will understand the emotions the main character is going through. There's nothing to get upset about in this series, so pop some corn, grab a fizzy drink, and just settle down and enjoy this comedy (that will also provide some 'pause and think' moments as you apply her experiences to your own life).

Hoping for season two.

I almost didn't watch because of the reviews this has gotten. Especially about the last episode but I'm so glad I watched. I kept finding myself torn between routing for Patty (Debby Ryan) and realizing she's a horrible person. Dallas Roberts was great as Bob Armstrong I loved him in this. It was also nice seeing Alyssa Milano and Christine Taylor. My crush for Christopher Gorham grew extremely high after this. I'm hoping for a season two. Screw what critics say this show was a hit.

No One with A Negative Review Has Watched Past the 1st Episode

I feel like there are a lot of thin people trying to "speak up" for overweight or former overweight people (like myself). People are confusing the dark humor this show uses with its actual message. Which conveyed that Patty's sudden weight loss did not make her problems go away, it even touches on how women should have the right to choose, and how society treats those who are thinner differently. I'm genuinely convinced people lack the comprehension to interpret that the creator of "Insatiable" wants to point out that "skinny isn't magic". Which is a direct quote from the show. Watch it, or rewatch it. And this time, pay attention.

A Dark, Entertaining Comedy

Spectacular!

I love it when America challenges itself with humour, which sadly doesn't happen often enough of late. Insatiable is a spectacular tongue-in-cheek take on the horror show of small Bible Belt towns and the quintessentially American beauty pageant. It's witty, attentive to detail, and doesn't hold back any punches, which of course is going to result in a lot of hate. The subject matter isn't about being fat or thin, it's about the utter absurdity of American life beneath the fragile veneer of wanting to win and be perfect.

I don't usually write reviews, but hear me out please

Insatiable is not a perfect show at all. It has its flaws, the acting, direction and editing get a little sloppy in the middle few episodes. It moves across different tones (comedy, satire, dark, drama) not very effectively at times. Some character motivations and plot points are ridiculous and seem to manifest out of thin air. But damn it, this show doesn't deserve the hate it's getting at all. All put together it's a fairly good show. And it isn't fat shaming at all, they use that tone initially to convey a deeper message, that suddenly losing your weight won't help fix all your problems. That being over weight wasn't the issue to begin with. The show has layers and it explores them slowly, and doesn't always do it in the most effective way (from a story telling perspective), but it tries. The show gets so much better towards the end, the last few episodes are really good. Definitely worth a watch. I think it's only worth a 8/10, but I want to give it a 10, to get its ratings up. The critics have been bashing this and so many other people, and I feel like they haven't even really watched this show (maybe only seen the trailer or one-two episodes). I was overweight too at a point in my life, and I have struggled with body image issues. This show is in no way offensive, it isn't insensitive either. It shows characters and people that might be, but that's not the message of the show, and if people can't get that, then I don't even know what to say. Hundreds of crime films are made every year, does that mean the film makers are trying to promote crimes? Just because a character in a film or show, says something or does certain things, doesn't mean that the show is spreading that message. Please watch this show, and form your own opinion, don't just listen to the critics. Stick with it to the end, I'm so glad that I did.

PLEASE, LET THERE BE A SEASON 2

This is coming from a fat girl who's had multiple issues with herself. The series has never offended me yet. I don't believe that this fat shames at all, but it actually sheds more light on the situation. And this isn't just about fat shaming. It's about everything society has placed as a sort of standard to be "normal". Plus, after seeing the last episode, I don't wanna be left hanging. I need to know what happens next. I need more. I'M HUNGRY. I'M INSATIABLE

It's alright

I feel that the user reviews and critic reviews are both very tainted with bias. Critics were very harsh, took every small detail and blew it up. Users gave it a perfect score just to spite the media. It's really just an okay show. It's a fun watch!

Starts strong, but goes off the rails

Insatiable is a show about a girl named Patty who is relentlessly teased for being fat. After an incident causes her mouth to be wired shut, she loses a lot of weight, becoming much hotter in the process. After discovering skinniness has a lot of perks, she decides to use it take revenge against those who have wronged her.

I was quite interested in the show going in. I assumed a lot of the bad press was just the critics upset by the subject matter. While I do think they were overly harsh in their scores, the first season has been the biggest let down for me for a T.V. show in a while. For a start, I was expecting a high school-based show where Patty would perhaps befriend her female bullies and seduce her male bullies, and then take them down one-by-one. While it starts out like this, the direction quickly changes. She gets talked into becoming a pageant contestant and that becomes a large part of the show. It was also one of my least favourite parts of the show.

The biggest surprise about the show going in was that it is actually based around 2 characters - Patty and Bob - instead of just Patty. Initially this was pretty good - I liked the interactions between the 2 leads - but halfway through the season their paths largely diverge. While I won't spoil the very obvious "twist", let's just say I found this direction less interesting than even the mediocre pageant stuff it was replacing.

Of course, Patty's story doesn't fare much better either. She quickly starts flip-flopping between revenge and trying to be a better person, and I would often forget her motivations for her actions. Also, her interactions with the side characters - whether her best friend, her enemies or her love interests - often felt far too brief and undercooked.

Speaking of side characters, they were often better than the actual leads. Her best friend was enjoyable, her angry Asian nemesis was funny and Bob's nemesis (also called Bob) added a little something to Bob's story. The show would have been much better to have focused mostly on Patty, with a decent helping of the side characters (including Bob), focusing on the revenge and/or bettering herself, rather than the pageant.

I'm sad to say this, but I probably wouldn't watch a season 2. The show started off strong - 7/10 for the first couple of episodes - with decent jokes and entertaining characters, but became a mess and eventually rather boring. It's disappointing because, as per usual, I've come away with the characters having grown on me, but the story they are a part of is just disappointing. I wouldn't recommend the show, unless you are desperate for some mindless entertainment and can't think of anything else you need to see.

So Good - So Campy - So Original

As a person that can think for himself I was already drawn to this show when all the controversy hit. My partner and I binge watched the whole thing and to our surprise, this is a masterpiece! We laughed, we cried, we championed, we were hooked! At first, you may think this is all about fat shaming, but in reality its a message of hope and endurance. It has an aspect of everything that makes for an amazing show....lust, love triangle, murder, drug use, the most amazing puns, bullying....all the big ones! Its more of a teenage soap opera that we literally were addicted to from the start. Its the Pringles of Netflix (once you pop you cant stop) Give it a watch and PLEASE!!!! Let have a second season!!!!

Born offended generation, hated it...

Good for them. This show is hysterical and fierce. It reminded me of the raunchy comedies I grew up watching, back in late 90s/early 2000s. I'm sure it would've lasted longer, had the show aired then. Unfortunately it didn't, and the way writers were having a hard time living up to what the premise suggested, especially on season 2, didn't help make the series case. This season premiere was struggling at reaching first season's goodness, but redeemed itself on the remaining episodes. I wished there were a third season, but I'm fine with what I got. However, it's almost unbelievable this show got the boot, while other Netflix drivels are being offered more seasons than they should...

Watched the entire season; it went from bad to worse to horrible

There was once a time when Netflix would announce more Original Content and I would be super excited to see something like Love or Stranger Things. I would intentionally watch the entire season of a show because they didn't always start out awesome (looking at you Girl Boss). However, over the past year Netflix's Original Content has become a trash heap and this show is no exception.

It's difficult to adequately describe how bad this show is. It's bad enough for me to write a review of it, which I truly never do. Imagine if Friday Night Lights was merged with The Jerry Springer Show, was centered around beauty pagents, where the writers were told to avoid any sort of intellectual or emotional depth and to aim for the lowest common denomination of humor AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN REACH THAT GOAL! Imagine Big Bang Theory set in the South attempting a social commentary on LGBTQ and millennial gender norms, where the actors are trying their darndest to alienate any sort of realistic emotion and thereby their audience.

Don't say you weren't warned.

The 6.5 rating is very misleading

A lot of shows when they first appear give two or three episodes to "professional reviewers." This show did that. And when it did at least one accused it of "fat shaming" in large part because Debby Ryan who plays the lead female Patty Bladell wears a fat suit in the pilot episode so she can go from an overweight teenager to a "suddenly thin and beautiful" teenager in what amounts to a half hour episode. So many people down voted and one starred this hating it from the on start without thinking about what the show was trying to actually say which was that being thin and beautiful didn't fix any of Patty's problem's.

Season 2 even deals with the question that Patty's weight was a condition of her overriding problem not the source of them. That Patty has far bigger problems then her inability to stop eating her feelings.

This is a dark comedy that plays murder for laughs. It also deals with a lot of different kinds of relationships including a couple of thruples. The two Bobs are hilarious and Alyssa Milano is really good in this (but she may not be back for season 3 if ongoing politics in Georgia do not go her way).

So if you look at the 6.5 rating and want to pass on it don't. Half of the one star reviews are by people who read the fat shaming article and never bothered to watch this in the first place.

It's comedy FFS, get over yourselves!

Deals with some pretty deep issues through satirical and dark comedy! One of the quickest, wittiest and funniest series I've seen in a long time. Surprisingly well written and acted, this is worth your time

Utter garbage

I made an IMDb account just so I could express what complete trash this show is. This show is an embarrassment. It isn't edgy and subversive, it's harmful and relies on old, tired stereotypes to drag the plot along. Don't waste your time with this nonsense.

Don't believe the critics

This show is a COMEDY! Yes, it makes fun of everbody! I've struggled with weight issues my whole life and one of my closest coworkers is a lesbian (the two most shamed things on this show) and we both find this show funny. If you like dumb humor, watch! And people need to stop being so serious ALL THE TIME!

Don't listen to the bad stuff you've heard

I actually liked this show! Granted, it's PURE trash... but all the body shaming reviews and the people calling the show 'disgusting' are being slightly over zealous. Yes, Debby Ryan wears a fat suit but so what? Gwyneth Paltrow wore a fat suit in Shallow Hal... I don't remember 200,000 signature strong petition about that?

The jokes in Insatiable are actually quite funny, the characters are mostly likeable, Alyssa Milano is in it, the voice overs are reminiscent of mean girls, the southern accents are hilarious, the story isn't the worst I've ever watched and the jokes are so close to the bone they make your teeth hurt... what more could you ask for?

Awful!

First of all, I have dark humour and I dont consider myself sensitive at all. And when I saw this trailer, I was really looking forward to see this show. It felt like it could actually bring up issues around bullying and beauty standards in a good way. And to me, the trailer didnt feel like it was "fat shaming" at all. But the actual show? A whole other story. In the pilot, we only see "fatty Patty" for 2 minutes, (a thin actress wearing a terrible fatsuit. It looked like she just added a double chin and a pillow under her shirt. Even Monica in Friends looked more realisticly obese). When she suddenly gets skinny, she becomes this whole other person. I get that you can get more confidence by losing weight, but this is on a bizarre level. I was curious about the part when she gets revenge on the bullies, but that's not a big part of the plot at all. I think the show has a lot of stupid, childish jokes (those about statutory rape and pedophilia are just tasteless). Its really bad written and unrealistic in many ways. And struggling with weight issues myself, I definately didnt like my body more after watching this. I wouldnt recommend this show to anyone.

I don't understand what people's problems are

I found this to be funny, well written, and filled with fantastic actors. The storyline is original and deals with a lot of issues that other shows won't touch. It seems that people saw the trailer and drew their own conclusions without actually watching it, and those that did watch took the choice to see what they wanted to see - they saw that a 'fat' girl was being bullied and had her problems solved by becoming 'thin', I saw a girl that lost the weight that society thought she should only to find that it didn't solve anything and actually things became worse, but as this is dealt with a dry sense of humour a lot of people didn't get this.

If you liked Drop Dead Gorgeous than this is the show for you!
