What is there to really say about 'The Day Of The Purple Sun': Part 1? Well as other reviews before have noted that this a trip down bizarrely, absurd rabbit hole that is full symbolism and abstract images and dialogue. And depending on your care about the artsy fartsy side of cinema it will most likely determine your enjoyment factor with this one.
Directed and starring frequent Marian Dora collaborator Carsten Frank, this film feels at times like the best and worst parts of his films with Dora. Only without the body fluids, animal killings (this does have plenty of already dead animals in it though) and extreme violence. The best being the striking cinematography, the otherworldly bizarre feel, and darkly beautiful aesthetic. The bad being the story is a bit crap, has pretentious dialogue, it's at times a little too artsy for its own good and it's kinda boring after a while.
Overall at a little over an hour I felt like it was a bit too long winded. If it was 30 minutes it would have actually been pretty good. But after the 40 minute mark it seriously starts dragging. Makes me a bit worried to see the next part. Either way I'll make sure to give my review of that one.
