Was a bit plastic faced throughout with some twists

Three aspects of the character and nature of the film were pretty consistent throughout. A couple of fairly well known, I think, actors anchored throughout. Most of the acting just felt raw, if a bit plastic faced, at times. That's first and foremost. Second, the practice, sparring, etc, passable enough, I thought. While I do not follow MMA or that culture that closely, I've seen enough of it, passable. It was less about that, itself, as it was portraying the lead character as the "rag doll" through and through, and in that, they definitely succeeded. Which brings me to the overall arch of the film; somewhat predictable, from the nospect to the prospect to the outspect to the respect, if you will. Speaking of course of the struggling lead character and her character development, such as it was, throughout the film. Again, bearing in mind, a bit plastic faced on its surface at times. There was one notable twist at the end that really endeared me to her as a character and I wanted the best for her into the last and final round of her bout. But I will not spoil that here. Worth the watch for that development.

Very well performed

All of the acting in this flick is outstanding and potentially award winning. Shannon Murray and Catherine Erb were perfectly cast as Daughter & Mother.

An entertaining movie with a few surprises.

Amazing acting. So-so story.

The lead, Shannon Murray is undoubtedly an amazing actress. She really delivered on this film, but the story is a bit lackluster. I think this movie is worth watching just for the acting. I definitely recommend this film to MMA/Boxing fans and anyone who appreciates good acting. Overall, good film.

RAG DOLL - Not Another Rip Off

Love the harsh, disquieting style of this film. Not only is it a festival favorite, but it deals with a lot of very powerful subjects all in a nice, tidy but rough around the edges piece.

While it is a 'Fight Film,' there is a lot more going on than one would think. I don't want to reveal any of the great plot points but I will say this, 'Watch this movie!' Nora, played by Shannon Murray is a master study in dealing with the harsh realities of life. How she does it is told in a brilliant and loving fashion by Director Bailey Kobe.

If you're in the mood for a great film, take a look...

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS FILM

Seeing the poster and trailer I had my own idea of what I would be getting into, but wow was I wrong. This film is way more than just an action/drama. It's a beautiful story with genuine characters that each had their own real life issues that they were dealing with. Kudos to the cast, directing and casting director. It's one I'll definitely watch twice.

Solid acting

Though it his film is obviously not a Bigger budget fight film, it was still well done for the budget that it did have. The way this film was edited allowed it to bypass the Big budget feel, without compromising its Production value all that much. Shannon Murray was great as the lead, with a solid supporting cast.

Action - Drama - Romance... it has it all!

The film takes you on a path where you think you have an understanding of where it's going only to take you on a completely different path. You must see the film until the very end to completely understand it and it's worth every minute. It's heart pounding in more than one way.

Awesome

From the opening to the end, I was intrigued at how raw this movie is. The hard, in your face, no holds BARRED, fighting sequences are real. Very good movie..I would recommend it to any MMA fan in general...

Rag Doll is Awesome

I spend a lot of time looking for good movies to tell people about. Since I found this movie during it's amazing run through the festival circuit, I have not stopped talking about how good this movie is. Finding a story that works to tell a real story about people who are more than just paper thin stereotypes is hard enough, but then making you root for them not just during the movie, but wondering what they are doing when you as a view leaves them.

The director seems to have a keen ability to make things feel real. The cast is very talented as both actors and fighters.

I feel like I discovered a huge secret before anyone else. I can not wait to see what this group does next.

And - watch this movie. It is amazing and very much worth your time.

Strong female film

This is a feature with a lot of grit and heart! All actors are amazing and the lead Shannon Murray knocked it out of the park! It's truly a kick ass female film that makes you root for all the characters!

The performances were amazing

Not only were the performances terrific, but the fight footage was some of the best I've seen. Really riveting and every bit as compelling a storyline as any great classic boxer flick.

Extraordinary Indie

I was not expecting the powerful filmmaking experience of "Rag Doll". It's an Indie; low-budget, no big-name actors, freshman director. I had heard it was good, but not this good.

They did an extraordinary job of capturing the day-do-day struggles of the protagonist, Nora. This is actually a feel-good movie, as Nora grows and learns about herself through boxing/mma and addresses some very serious issues head-on.

Excellent Film

The entire movie was excellent, you certainly get caught up with the two main characters and the fighting scenes were superb. Personally, I enjoyed Stephanie Erb's performance, she really stood out. I highly recommend this movie.

MMA Heart Strings

This pulled all of my heart strings. I'm a huge MMA fan and was excited to see the film. The filmmakers captured the headspace of a fighter and the blurred lines that they walk in their lives. The lead, Nora, has quite the path that is heart wrenching but the characters in her life add so much flavor to her story - good and bad. Watch this film!!

Not your typical fight movie

Expecting this to be your usual underdog story, where a struggling fighter overcomes obstacles to achieve greatness, you'll be pleasantly surprised. It was that, but more so a unique story about WHAT the struggle was the lead was facing. I wanted the fight scenes to be a little more action driven, but the character arcs and deliveries won me over. Murray shines as a pretty but gritty tomboy, trying to stay tough in a fragile circumstance, supported by an equally talented ensamble!

Great little indie film!

A great surprise

Excellent fighting drama. Emotional, observational. I liked it much more than I expected. Great cast, well done screenplay a few cliches, but satisfying and convincing. Promising filmmakers.

Wow !

Drama, humor, and an unexpected psychological spin towards the end which was unexpected.Very real and you can't help but root for Nora towards the end. The beginning is a bit too dramatic.. I think the director or cinematographer wanted to show off his very talented skills lol but once it gets going it will make you laugh and cry as it starts pulling pieces to give you a great ending that will make you feel good and remind you we are all fighting a struggle within. I loved the ending. There is so much more to this than the surface and I will watch again. Great movie!

GREAT FILM AND SHOULD BE RATED ACCORDINGLY

I could write a review of this movie and point to all the reason why I liked it... but I would rather talk about something else. We all have different views on things. Film is art and art is subjective. I find more and more on the IMDb people make their posts as if their view the absolute truth. many arm chair film critics and wannabe film bluffs add their two cents with righteousness than is offensive.

Personally I cannot see how anyone could vote this movie a one. The acting is great. The look of the film is brilliant. Not your cup of tea? Okay... but a one? In fact if you go to the highest rated film on the entire IMDb, "The Godafather" you will see that 119,493 people voted for it (as of this writing) and that out of those 7,229 people gave it a one! Incredible! Now I am not saying the people who gave it a one are not entitled to their opinion (even though I cannot understand how anyone could ever reach that conclusion) what I am saying is that I find the voting system to be misused. People seem to either vote in 10's and 1's. More thought should be given to make the votes more reliable.

This film is definitely a "must-see"

We are not all athletes and some of us are far from heading into the octagon, but Rag Doll lets you personally go on your own journey of self-revelation, doubt, and personal triumph without ever leaving your seat.

This film is as if Kobe has put a mirror in front of viewers for a sort of "self-check."

This is a story of self. There is not a character in this movie that the audience cannot relate to on some level. This film is as if Kobe has put a mirror in front of viewers for a sort of "self-check."

Torment, Loss, champion, firestarter, beautiful story of love for a mom and her daughter.

I found this amazing. To see Shannon Murry a self-made future bigtime star make such a thought-provoking and exciting film was glorious.

She is beautiful and seriously tough. What a masterpiece.

I loved every minute of this film. It's the Sixth Sense meets Rocky. Twists and turns which surprised me. Shannon is such talent too.
