Freshly in with the New Year, dozens of new anime have been taking fans by storm already in 2025. From Sakamoto Days' action-packed comedy to iconic shojo like The Apothecary Diaries and My Happy Marriage in their second seasons, there is no shortage of outstanding anime for fans to indulge in. When it comes to romance anime, however, there is one new series that hs fallen under the radar: Honey Lemon Soda.
Not every new anime resonates with audiences, with some of them taking a while to get the attention they deserve. Despite Honey Lemon Soda's bright animation and adorable plot following a shy high school girl who falls for an outgoing guy with hair the color of lemon soda, anime fans seem to have missed what might actually be the most underrated romance of anime of 2025. If there's one thing that Honey Lemon Soda keeps proving, it's that there's magic in simplicity. In a vast anime landscape filled with action-packed sequences, fantastical worlds, demon kings, mysteries, and heavy lore, Honey Lemon Soda keeps the story character-driven, and focused on hopeful themes.
Episode 1 "Because I Met You," introduced slice-of-life anime fans to Uka Ishimori, whose life completely changed after the gruff but handsome Kai Miura suggested she attend the same high school he does. Once there, she crosses paths with him again and, with Kai and his group of friends' help, vows to find a way to regain her confidence. While that character arc may seem like it's nothing new under the slice-of-life anime sun, Episode 2 confirms that it's best to follow the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" motto.

Method Man’s star power was evident from the moment listeners heard him on Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), especially the album’s lone solo single, which carried his name. During our recent Zoom call, he tells me in his gravelly baritone that he’s still likely to listen to that project before the rest of his catalog. But it was only the beginning of a legendary career that continues well into his fifties. Albums like 1994’s Tical and 1999’s Blackout (with close friend Redman), as well as New York rap...

When discussing the story of “The Listeners,” both the novel by Jordan Tannahill and now the BBC Studios series from Janicza Bravo, the emphasis must be placed on the emotional rather than the literal. Yes, the premise centers on a woman who begins hearing a humming sound that nobody else can, but it’s also about the way isolation can create the conditions for otherwise ordinary people to become vulnerable to finding answers in dark places. Some completely fall down a rabbit hole of conspiracies, leaving those who loved them wondering what even happened to the person they thought they knew. For all the ways we believe ourselves to be fully rational and incapable of falling prey to this, “The Listeners” calls this into question in unsettling fashion.
These thorny yet critical ideas are expressed through the sharp eye of Bravo who, just as she did in the underrated “Lemon” and the brilliant “Zola,...

Hope You're Happy Lemon stands out with mature characters and lack of over-played gags. Sunao and Lemon create complex romantic scenarios by switching bodies, adding depth to relationships. The series' notable setting and strong writing elevate the classic body-swapping trope, promising a fresh rom-com experience.
Hope You're Happy Lemon is an exciting, new Shnen Jump series currently running on Shueisha's MangaPlus service. With the recent endings of many other popular rom-com series, the latest of note being Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro, somewhat of a hole has been left in the genre. However, with rising viewership seemingly every week, Lemon is making its case for becoming the next big thing in romance manga.
While not offering anything entirely new or genre-bending, Hope You're Happy Lemon elevates what would otherwise be a typical body-swapping premise by placing compelling characters in complicated scenarios. Combining strong writing with a departure from the usual high-school setting,...

In a development that may not be all that surprising, Don Lemon doesn’t seem to have many fans over at Fox News.
On Monday morning’s installment of “Fox & Friends First,” cohost Carley Shimkus and guest Beverly Hallberg broke down the former “CNN This Morning” anchor’s first interview since his firing, slamming the journalist for positioning himself as what Hallberg deemed “the arbiter of the truth.”

“Barry” returns for its fourth and final season. After the shocking Season 3 finale which saw Barry (Billy Hader) getting arrested and Cousineau (Henry Winkler) being hailed as a hero, there will be plenty of consequences for both. The dark comedy premieres on April 16 with two episodes.
“A Black Lady Sketch Show” will also bring plenty of laughs when it returns for its fourth season. The sketch comedy series premieres April 14.
On the drama side, the limited series “Love and Death” premieres on April 27. It’s based on the true story of Candy (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty (Lily Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons) – two churchgoing couples enjoying their small-town Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.
First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.
Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

She joins the two in “Murder Mystery 2”, the newest entry in their film franchise, but it’s not the star’s first time working in comedy.
“I wouldn’t say it’s my first comedy,” the actress told People. “I feel like ‘White Noise’ was a comedy. And I also did a little movie called ‘Lemon’ years ago, directed by Janicza Bravo.”

In the final season of HBO Max’s “Barry,” premiering on April 16, Barry’s arrest for the murder of Cousineau’s girlfriend leads to a shocking conclusion. Barry (Bill Hader), a hitman who stumbles into acting, explores the dark, often comedic underbelly of both LA gangsters and Hollywood. Henry Winkler stars as Cousineau, Barry’s acting teacher and the man forced to confront the reality of his former student.

There’s nothing quite like when HBO is airing one of its trademark watercooler-worthy dramas weekly. Thankfully, we’ll get to it experience exactly that and more on HBO Max in March 2023.
The big ticket item on HBO Max this March is undoubtedly Succession Season 4 on March 26. Part prestige drama and part screwball comedy, Succession is about as fun a watch as they come. Season 4 of the series about egregious wealth will find the Roy siblings reeling after trying and failing to take down their father, Logan (Brian Cox).
HBO Max’s other major TV option this month is another weekly release from HBO. Matthew Rhys returns as the titular lawyer in Perry Mason Season 2 on March 6. Season 1 of this period piece reboot flexed the classic TV character’s detective skills. From the look of the trailer, it seems as though this is the year Perry makes his name in the court room.

There’s a scene in Bullet Train that perfectly illustrates what a misfire this supposed action comedy is. A bunch of rival assassins with overlapping and clashing objectives are all on the same overnight high-speed train from Tokyo to Kyoto. Two of them — Brad Pitt’s “Ladybug” and Brian Tyree Henry’s “Lemon” — find themselves in a face-to-face encounter in the quiet car. Naturally, the confrontation turns violent. In a movie that actual took action comedy seriously, this might have been hilarious: How do you beat someone up, maybe even kill them, without making any noise? But here, after the barest nod to the need for silence, rowdy fisticuffs commence, and the only concession to comedy — allegedly — is Pitt snapping at the civilian who shushes them to “eat a bag of dicks”… and then apologizing, because, you see, he’s on a journey to be a better person.

Hulu is bringing two major TV titles to its stream this month. The first is The Orville: New Horizons on June 2. Season 1 of this Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez-starring series was a big hit. Let’s see if our favorite podcasters can pull it off once again.

Editors note: Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series debuts and celebrates the scripts of films that will be factors in this year’s movie awards race.

Hollywood may not have always known what to do with Janicza Bravo, but she certainly knew what to do with it. The visionary filmmaker behind “Zola,” one of the year’s most inventive and incisive films, Bravo has said her films don’t typically fit the mold of what the industry expects from Black women.
Her first film, “Lemon,” was about an insufferable white guy. And while no one is better equipped to skewer insufferable white guys than a brilliant Black woman, that’s a fact most risk-averse executives are not usually smart enough to understand. Luckily for Bravo, and everyone else, A24 and Christine Vachon got it.

There’s no date set for when “Canada’s Drag Race” Season 2 will premiere, but last month fans got more news about the judges’ panel shakeup that’s been in flux since March. Two judges are out and three new ones have been named.

Exclusive: A busy week for Judy Greer. Earlier we reported that she was starring in the indie film LA Bound, and today we hear she will play Mrs. G. in the Nicholas Ma directed feature Mabel.
Joy Goodwin and Ma wrote the script for Mabel which centers around Callie, whose only friends are the plants and trees that surround her home. When her dad’s job moves the family to a sterile subdivision, she is utterly isolated—except for her best friend, a potted plant named Mabel. To Callie, Mabel is a peer, a fellow being, maybe overlooked or unseen, but still very much alive.

FX has tapped “Zola” director and co-writer Janicza Bravo to direct the pilot of “Kindred,” starring Mallori Johnson in the lead role.
Based on the novel by Octavia E. Butler, “Kindred” follows Dana (Johnson), a young Black woman and aspiring writer who has moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of an independent future. She soon finds herself being pulled back and forth in time to an 1800s plantation to which her family is intimately linked. As an interracial romance weaves through her past and present, Dana struggles to confront the secrets she never knew ran through her blood.
Production is scheduled for September, with writer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Courtney Lee-Mitchell, Darren Aronofsky, Ari Handel, Joe Weisberg, Joel Fields, Ernestine Walker, Merrilee Heifetz and Bravo executive producing.
“I first read ‘Kindred’ 20 years ago,” Bravo said. “I was in college. I hadn’t ever seen myself in a world like that. And certainly not at its center.

Zola helmer Janicza Bravo has been tapped to direct and executive produce FX pilot Kindred, an adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s influential novel, with newcomer Mallori Johnson set to star. The project hails from writer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (Watchmen), Courtney Lee-Mitchell (The Reluctant Fundamentalist), Darren Aronofsky and his Protozoa Pictures, Joe Weisberg (The Americans) and Joel Fields (Fosse/Verdon). FX Productions is the studio. Production is scheduled to begin in September.
Johnson will play the central character Dana, a young Black woman and aspiring writer who has uprooted her life of familial obligation and relocated to Los Angeles, ready to claim a future that, for once, feels all her own. But, before she can get settled into her new home, she finds herself being violently pulled back and forth in time to a nineteenth-century plantation with which she and her family are most surprisingly and intimately linked.

There are a lot ways to describe “Zola,” the scandalously intoxicating mad-dog erotic-underworld drama with a title that doesn’t tell you much about it. It’s a true story so extravagant it feels like it must have been made up. It’s a mini volcano of sex and violence and danger and deception. It’s a close-to-the-bone portrait of women who work in the sex industry. It’s a youthquake as real as “American Honey.” It’s a piece of pure filmmaking bravura.
The movie first played at Sundance in 2020, and the reason it’s just coming out now is that it’s one of the rare independent films that was treated by its distributor — in this case, A24 — as a made-for-the-big-screen jewel, like “No Time to Die” or “West Side Story,” whose release would have to wait until we could start to see the post-pandemic theatrical landscape. “Zola...

We could label Janicza Bravo‘s sophomore feature as a road-trip misadventure and about getting a raw deal in a set number of twitter character space, but deep down its about the deconstruction of the incidental, shaping the narrative and about negotiating the terms in real time. Three years after premiering Lemon at the Sundance Film Festival, Bravo returns with Zola – A24’s first superhero film where a stripper outplays, outthinks, and outwits the overlords and the powers that be. I had the chance to sit down with the filmmaker and discuss how she worked at adapting the material, the creative use of narration, the use of sound, and creating a character who is we could relate as a power broker in her own right.…...
