Superman

With the new DC franchise, James Gunn starts it with his take on the Man of Steel himself. This film is not just for current fans or fans from the start, it also speaks to everyone. This is the Superman film that we might not have asked but it is definitely what we needed. This does not just focus on the superhero genre. It's a roller-coaster action packed yet it has the emotion and heart of a superhero story. It does not just showed Superman that he is invincible. It also showed his weaknesses, yet he still shows that he is a man of hope.

The film also did not waste other characters. Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, the Justice Gang played important parts. Hoult's performance was Lex Luthor was insane! The Fortress of Solitude was also not sidelined. And there's Krypto! Man Krypto definitely stole the show! Brosnahan's Lois Lane was really well executed and Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman was really amazing!

The film also had its surprises but overall, it is very well made. James Gunn, you outdid yourself again this time! Thank you for bringing this to life. Probably the best film this year so far! A definite worth the watch!

I saw a sneak peek of this the day before it opened. Going into it I honestly expected it to just be ok. And I'll admit in the first couple minutes I found myself thinking "oh this might not be good". But then as the movie went on, I found myself really getting into it. Everything about this movie was awesome. The casting was excellent for everyone. The bright colors that gave it the feel of watching a comic book come off the pages and onto the screen. Most of all, this movie was uplifting. It made me smile. The relationship Clark had with Ma and Pa Kent was very well done. Anyone calling them "dumb rednecks" just doesn't get it. There was one scene in particular which gave me chills, when the boy lifted the Superman flag and started saying his name, that accompanied by the John Willams Superman theme was beautifully done. The more I think about this movie, the more it grows on me. I really enjoyed this movie and can't wait to see what James Gunn has planned next. Do yourself a favor and see this one on the big screen.

Let me say this up front: I'm not a fan of Superman as a superhero, but I do enjoy James Gunn's work (especially his «GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY» trilogy, which I absolutely love), so I was genuinely curious and looking forward to his new film about the Man of Steel.

Unfortunately, this time James Gunn left me disappointed. The biggest issue is the script. For some reason, the director chose to throw the audience straight into the middle of the action, with almost no background or introduction for the main character. Some might argue that Superman's origin story is no longer necessary, but in my view, it's absolutely essential for a full-fledged reboot. This is David Corenswet's first appearance as Clark Kent, and the film clearly lacks at least 30 minutes of emotional buildup to help us connect with him. Without that foundation, it's hard to truly care about his character.

The same goes for the rest of the cast. Lex Luthor lacks a clear motivation: he wants to destroy Superman right from the start, but there's no deeper reasoning behind it. Clark's relationship with his adoptive parents is barely shown - they appear only in a few short scenes. His connection with Lois Lane also feels shallow. There's no real chemistry between them, and their relationship seems to develop entirely off-screen. As a result, it feels more like we're watching the second installment in a franchise rather than the first.

Another serious flaw is the overload of secondary heroes. The audience is thrown into a new world packed with characters: Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, The Engineer, Ultraman - all of whom show up, but almost none receive meaningful screen time (Mister Terrific is arguably the most developed). They're hard to remember, let alone care about. For the average viewer unfamiliar with the DC Universe, it's genuinely overwhelming. «BATMAN V SUPERMAN» was heavily criticized for a similarly chaotic structure, yet despite sharing the same flaws, Gunn's latest film is somehow receiving mostly positive reviews. I just don't get it.

So, for the first film in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU), I expected a more coherent, emotionally rich, and self-contained story. For many viewers - especially newcomers - this movie might feel chaotic and overcrowded. And, in essence, that's exactly how it is. In just two hours of runtime, Gunn packed in so much that it could have easily been stretched out into an entire season of a TV series.

P. S. I'm not a Zack Snyder fan, even though I'm aware of his massive fanbase. Personally, I see him as a strong visionary but a weak writer and director. Still, I have to be honest: his «MAN OF STEEL» left a far deeper impression on me than James Gunn's new «SUPERMAN». As disappointing as that is - especially given how much I admire Gunn's previous work - I have to speak frankly about how I feel.

This isn't just a reboot-it's a full-on resurrection of everything we love about Superman! James Gunn nails the tone: emotional, bold, and full of hope. David Corenswet owns the cape-he's charming, powerful, and finally gives us a Superman we can believe in. Rachel Brosnahan kills it as Lois Lane with wit and fire. The action is epic, the visuals are stunning, and the story hits the heart. Sure, the CGI finale gets a bit wild, but who cares? This movie flies high and brings the DC Universe back to life. A must-watch for any superhero fan! Can't wait to see where this universe goes next-this is just the beginning.

This was the worst Superman to date. The movie offered nothing beyond the first trailer. Direction and story did nothing to show the character depth of the noble superhero that is Superman. The comedic add-ons where just that, trivial moments that where just patches of uncreative trivia. I entered the theater with excitement and hope but left disappointed with no memorable scenes to carry on. This was another waste of opportunity.

The score aligned with shallowness of story borrowing from John William's theme and made it worse. Overall this felt like an inferior version of Guardians of Galaxy with DC characters pretending to be a Superman Movie.
