Wow. That was bad.

I dont know anything about the books but it's clear this was slapped together garbage on a green screen. But my 6 year old likes it. So I'll sit through it. Guess that's the audience.

Willy Wonka meets Mr. Magoriums wonder emporium meets Harry Potter

It appears this movie borrows heavily from other books and movies, however it is fun and clean and the kids get into it.

Nickelodeon flick

Kyle Keeley loves doing scavenger hunt competitions. He is one of the chosen kids by Mr. Lemoncello to do what is essentially an escape from his library. Twelve kids are brought in. A couple quits before it starts and one more is ejected right away.

This is a TV movie for Nickelodeon. There is limitations to the production and that is the problem. The story wants to be magical, but that takes a bigger budget. It tries to use some CGI. The set looks like a TV kids show. It is what it is. It's just that the kids aren't compelling enough and I don't recognize any of them. They're kids. It's just not that engaging.

Terrible adaptation

My daughter and I LOVED the books... and this adaptation is truly horrific. Character names and a couple of plot aspects remain, the rest is just garbage. I don't get it; the book was good enough for someone to want to turn it into a movie... only to mess everything up constantly. What a waste of a great book...
