When Eva Longoria’s Intense Scene Left Her Co-Star Uncomfortable—Only to Be Cut Later!
Image

Eva Longoria has proved she could rule Hollywood even without needing a script. The multitasker actress who somehow manages to become a glam icon while stealing the spotlight rose to fame as the glamorous and fiery Gabrielle Solis on the hit TV show Desperate Housewives. Her role catapulted her into stardom, making her a household name and one of the most recognizable Latinas in Hollywood. Before performing in Desperate Housewives, the actress starred in more minor roles on shows like The Young and the Restless. Although her TV magic started to fizzle a bit after Desperate Housewives was wrapped in 2012, she starred alongside Jack Whitehall in a 2017 miniseries, Decline and Fall.

Decline and Fall was a British comedy mini-series based on the satirical novel by Evelyn Waugh. Directed by Guillem Morales, the show takes...

Julia’s Eyes director Guillem Morales was at the helm of The Wasp, working from a screenplay written by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, based on Malcolm’s stage play of the same name. ‘Saltburn’s’ Critics Are Right — the Film Is Gorgeous, but It Whitewashes the Ugliness of the Upper Classes
Image
Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Saltburn,” in theaters now.

In 2006, I was an English major at Oxford alongside “Saltburn” director Emerald Fennell. While there was a peripheral overlap in our social circles, as far as I remember we never officially met. Like the protagonists in her new film, we existed in the same orbit but our experiences at Oxford could not have been further apart.

So I wasn’t entirely surprised to see Fennell’s dark satire get some flack since its release, particularly in the U.K., for failing to adequately skewer the upper classes while depicting scholarship kid Oliver Quick (played by Barry Keoghan) as a vampiric con artist. His mark, the blue-blooded Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), is kind-hearted and guileless, a cross between Princess Diana and Harry Enfield’s comic creation Tim Nice But Dim.

Even when he realizes he’s been deceived, Felix behaves...

Image
Ahead of his new compilation Film Music 1976-2020, Brian Eno has released a dark new video for “Decline and Fall” from the O Nome da Morte soundtrack.

The 2017 Brazilian film translates to Tarnished Land. It was directed by Henrique Goldman, who also directed Eno’s new video. The clip opens with a man being buried alive, followed by burning forests and the trail of an assassin, whose victim later floats in the waters of the Amazon.

“Our video juxtaposes two cinematic narratives set in Brazil, one of the main frontiers...

Brian Eno Collects Soundtrack Work for New Comp ‘Film Music 1976-2020’
Image
Brian Eno has collected highlights from his soundtrack work over the past 40 years — some familiar, some hard-to-find — for the producer and ambient music pioneer’s new collection Film Music 1976-2020.

The compilation is a sequel of sorts to Eno’s 1978 EP Music for Films — as well as its follow-up installments in 1983 and 1988 — and bridges his film work from 1976’s Sebastiane (“Final Sunset”) through 2020’s Stewart Brand documentary We Are As Gods.

While some of the Film Music 1976-2020 selections are well-known (Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks’ “Deep Blue Day” and “An Ending...

John Preston Teams With BBC For Stonehouse

John Preston, the author of the book behind Golden Globe-winning BBC/AMC series A Very English Scandal, has been commissioned to pen a BBC drama about a British politician who faked his own death. Stonehouse, named after John Stonehouse who staged his death on a Miami beach in 1974, is a three-part series co-produced by UK indies Clearwood Films and Snowed-In Productions, with Banijay Rights handling international distribution. Clearwood founder Ellie Wood (Decline And Fall) and Ruth Kenley-Letts (Mrs Wilson) are executive producing, marking Preston’s second collaboration with Wood after they teamed on The Dig for Netflix, a feature starring Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James and Johnny Flynn. “There has never been a more bizarre true-life story than that of John Stonehouse, who miraculously came back to life a month after his own ‘death.’ I am thrilled to have the chance to...

International Literary Properties Acquires Rights To 12 Major Estates Including Georges Simenon, Evelyn Waugh
Image
Launched in November, London/New York book rights outfit International Literary Properties has acquired 12 literary estates from the UK’s Peters, Fraser + Dunlop. The eight figure deal sees Ilp acquire the rights formerly held by the agency for the estates of Georges Simenon, Eric Ambler, Margery Allingham, Edmund Crispin, Dennis Wheatley, Robert Bolt, Richard Hull, George Bellairs, Nicolas Freeling, John Creasey, Michael Innes and Evelyn Waugh.

Ilp was set up to acquire the rights in literary estates from those who have inherited them, or from living authors, and will work to exploit those rights through all media platforms including TV, film and theater. Many of the estates acquired under the current deal include the detective, spy and crime genres. Simenon is best known as the creator of French Detective Jules Maigret, for example. Bolt, however, was a playwright who also penned the scripts for Lawrence Of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago and A Man For All Seasons.

Disney’s ‘Jungle Cruise’ Adds Spain’s Quim Gutiérrez (Exclusive)
Madrid — Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, has added Spanish actor Quim Gutiérrez, one of Spain’s most prominent thirty-something actors who broke out last decade.

Directed by Jaume Collet Serra, “Jungle Cruise” will see Gutiérrez play one of the movie’s villains.

Born in Barcelona, Gutiérrez’s big break came in Daniel Sánchez Arévalo’s debut “DarkBlueAlmostBlack,” a rights-of-passage tragicomedy which won star Gutiérrez a Spanish Academy best new actor Goya for his performance as a young janitor attracted to his brother’s prison inmate girlfriend.

Arévalo’s other credits include spy operative comedy thriller “Spy Time,” released in 2015, and Mediaset España’s 2016 mini-series “Cain’s Father,” about the dirty war against Eta terrorism, where he played a by-the-book Civil Guard lieutenant.

Consecration in Spain came in 2016 when Gutiérrez was chosen to model the new Emidio Tucci male fashion line of El Corte Inglés, Spain’s biggest department store chain.

Exclusive: Eva Longoria on Championing Fellow Actresses and Why She's Ready for a 'Desperate Housewives' Revival
Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria is a woman of many hats.

Not just because she dons an assortment of them as Margot Beste-Chetwynde, a feminist and bourgeois widow, in the 1930s-set miniseries Decline and Fall, premiering in the U.S. Monday, May 15 on Acorn TV. But Longoria, who funded her quinceañera working at a Wendy's in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, at 15 years old, is a bona fide go-getter.

That same moxie eventually landed the 42-year-old stalwart her breakout role as the amusingly self-obsessed, gardener-bedding Gabrielle Solis on ABC's juicy dramedy Desperate Housewives. Later, she worked behind the camera, producing and directing episodes of Lifetime's Devious Maids and NBC's short-lived romp Telenovela, which also cast her as a lurid soap star.

Set in the late 1920s, “Decline and Fall” stars Whitehall as modest theology student Paul Pennyfeather, who finds his life upended when he’s expelled from Oxford University, having fallen victim to a prank by the privileged Bollinger Club gets him in trouble for indecent exposure. Unfortunately, that act means that Paul has defaulted on the conditions of his inheritance and therefore must take a job teaching at Llanabba, a school in Wales run by Dr. Fagan (Suchet).
