Good initiative to spread awareness.

The movie's story has been well thought of ; the plight of villagers specially women who have to defacate in open has been portrayed in a realistic manner. The problem of not having toilets at home isn't an ordinary one. A major reason for rising number of rapes in rural areas is that women have to go out in the open fields and defacate. The toilet scams, lack of awareness and the unwillingness of people in villages to change their old notions are a real problem. The movie has some songs and romantic scenes which unnecessarily increase its time duration, the jokes aren't funny enough to make you laugh but Akshay Kumar definitely holds your interest throughout. The second half is more informative and happening. In short, you may go and watch this movie with your family or friends over the weekend.

The only word for this movie is "Awesome"

1. Must Watch. 2. The best Movie I watched after "03 idiots" & "Dangal". 3. Akshay at his best. 4. Bhoomi Pednekar is a delight for Hindi Cinema. She did more than excellent job. 5. Divyendu (Akshay's friend) is the best intake in comic role. 6. Anupam Kher is as usual at his best. 7. Sudhir Pandey did perfect justice to his role. 8. Script is well knitted & director has full control on the minutest details. 9. Each scene is well directed. 10. Akshay is redefining his own benchmark in each film. He has developed a perfect comic sense & timing to deliver dialogue. 11. Overall a genuine social cause has been presented in a perfect frame which penetrates deep into the hearts of each Indian, whether the person has a toilet in his home or not. 12. The best scene of Akshay in my opinion that moved the audience is, while the toilet he constructed for his wife, was ruthlessly broken by his own father.

OVERALL TOILET is a perfect combination of social cause & entertainment. movie deserves TAX FREE in all over India. Akshay you are already an inspiration to millions in many aspects but after this movie, billions would love you.

They should have told in some way that there are no sewer lines and how the toilets in rural areas are different from urban ones!

This was a big drawback of the movie. Not all of us are experts on the status of sanitation and toilets in Rural places.

The movie(especially the attitude of the father) didn't make much sense to me because of all of the time I assumed that there is a sewer line obviously, at the place shown in the film. I had no idea how the toilets are constructed in rural areas where there are no sewer lines. If this was somehow(may be subtly or indirectly), communicated to the viewers, many of us would have enjoyed the whole movie a lot more and it would also have been much more meaningful to us!

Every Indian should watch this powerful drama

Over the years Akshay Kumar's choice of selecting the films has drastically improved. The actor has impressed in films like Holiday, Baby, Airlift, Rustom and Jolly LLB2 to name a few. Move over commercial masala potboilers with item songs, hero smashing 10 guys with a single blow and typical song-dance routine – Shree Narayan Singh's Toilet - Ek Prem Katha will give you goosebumps with the harsh-reality of Indian states without proper toilets.

Toilet - Ek Prem Katha tells the story of Keshav (played by Akshay Kumar) and Jaya (played by Bhumi Pednekar) who leaves Keshav after marriage when she discovers there is no toilet in the house. Keshav vows to bring a change in his village by driving social awareness on the usage of toilet and fight against the age-old tradition.

Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, Toilet -Ek Prem Katha catches your attention from the initial reels with light humor and feel good songs. However, the main story unfolds when Jaya discovers the absence of a toilet at the house. The drama gets more intense when she proposes to build a toilet at home which is vehemently rejected by her father-in-law. If the first half comprises of romance, family drama and songs, second half brings well-intention messages of usage of toilet in the villages. The screenplay does falter in between which could have better without few scenes and songs but nevertheless, the overall impact is pretty solid. Art direction is okay while Cinematography is decent. Though none of the songs are memorable but goes well with the film. Dialogues are punching while editing could have been better. Shree Narayan Singh does a good job in mixing the entertainment quotient with social message.

Akshay Kumar is probably at the best phase of his career. The brilliant actor just delivers another knock-out performance. Watch for him when he burst into tears after the toilet he was building, is destroyed by his father. I was surprised to see the transformation of fat-to-fit Bhumi Pednekar from Dumb Laga Ke Haisha. This is her second film and the amount of maturity she shows in her acting is astounding. Divyendu Sharma does well in a supporting role.

Toiet-Ek Prem Katha is a pleasure to watch not just for its satirical humor on Indian Sanitation system, but also for its beautiful message on honesty and bravery.

nice movie

i wonder why people saying this is a bad movie. the movie is nicely acted and the love story is a part of it. In comparison to the crap released today, this one is very nice and entertaining movie.

i hope people see it in neutral view. we should encourage such movies. off course there is some drama, but why not, its a movie. You can watch this with your family.

Movie of the Year

Honestly speaking Toilet is obviously not going to rock you throughout its running time but certainly would leave you mesmerize & wanting for more. Movie is backup with top notch performance of Akshay and the rest of the cast played their role perfectly. However, the last part of the movie seems forced to me like the director was in no mood to sit down and finish it with good climax. Songs seem unnecessary but the dialogue delivery and side kick of Akshay was hilarious and seriously pulled some great performance. This movie may not be the best of Akshay but certainly the best of this year. I didn't like and bother to watch Tubelight and JHMS after my colleagues comments but even most of them refrain from even giving 2 star to any of them. Baahubali made a huge figure this year but performance wise stands below to this one. I will recommend the moviegoers to check this one out as it would surely make your weekend worth enjoying.

Lame love scenes and unnecessary melodrama push you to land on excreta

Makers research work is clearly lacking in this film. According to their knowledge, religion is the biggest obstacle on the way of construction of toilet in villages. If they had visited, at least few remote villages of different religions, then must have come across the basic factors of open defecation, like poverty, lack of education and unawareness of health hazards of it. Assuming religion as main reason, they came with lots of high octane preachy scenes and dialogues, even some Shaloks from 'Manu Smriti', I couldn't understand it a bit but it was key scene for them. Their research work source would have been news paper cutting or some news clippings not at the real field. For sick or old persons, people used to constructing makeshift toilets. Rarely any person used to oppose this thing in the name of religion. Film is lengthy, due to stale scenes, like film opens with beaten Mangal Dosh excuse for being married with buffalo. Using train's toilet at station and showing its montages and all that. Makers are not aware that using train toilet at station is also like doing open defecation if there is no bio toilet attached and the train shown in this film doesn't seem of having bio one. Dramatic scenes are also unbearable, like male lead, slapping hard the reporter, action sequence when toilet is being demolished, even male lead breaks an iron rod by hitting at his thigh like it was of wooden one! At interval, female lead couldn't get down from train and male lead is chasing her. This sequence is shot as if train is going to meet an accident! After interval in a scene, female lead shouted hysterically, to her neighbors women, who were going for open defecation, like they are going first time for the same. That Latthamar Holi sequence is supposed to be very emotional one, actors emoted well too but that was not going smoothly with the story telling. Film starts with stale Mangal Dosh, then some very convenient love scenes, then toilet issue, then Panchayet, government, divorce, media, but offers nothing in the name of novelty. Characterization is shaky too. Female lead is highly educated but can't even pronounce toilet. After love track, there was not a bit use of her being educated rather than behaving high headed. Male lead father suddenly changes his heart like a water bubble while his character is established as stoned way. Same thing happens with village women. Actually film is in bits and pieces. Performance wise Akshay Kumar is good. Bhumi Pednekar is brilliant. Divyendu Sharma as younger brother is very good. Rajesh Sharma as government officer, in his brief role is fine. Sudhir Pandey as father is first rate.

Another great one from Akshay Kumar

It's a simple story and plot, amazing performances by Bhumi Pednekar and Akshay Kumar, along with a good supporting cast especially Divyendu Sharma(Akshay's friend) and Sudhir Pandey(Akshay's father) Some good comedy in the right parts making it engaging, being a social issue film. The only problem is that it's really long and repeats many things again and again making it boring in the second half.

Nevertheless, it's a must watch for everyone because it excels in raising awareness about the cleanliness situation in our country because like every social issue, this one has more than what meets the eye!

Change

Having had to use some poorly maintained outhouses at the height of summer and in the depths of winter, I believe that indoor plumbing is the greatest invention of mankind. As a result, I was onboard from the start of of this movie. Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar fall in love at first sight -- although it takes her a while to realize it.This is always a convenience, since it allows the film makers to get to the heart of the plot. Miss Pednekar has been raised with the modern conveniences, including a toilet at home, while Mr. Kumar is the son of a very conservative Brahmin in a small village, and since daddy believes that men should pee and defecate wherever they are, while women should hold it in all day and go en masse to a distant field for their business, well, Mr. Kumar believes in quick and dirty solutions to his father's dictatorial edicts.

The movie turns into a propaganda piece on modern sanitation, but never loses sight of its romantic comedy roots. The leads grow as the movie progresses and even the inevitable musical interludes work; indeed, the final one, in which Mr. Kumar admits his faults, is beautifully staged. I can't say how well anyone else will react to this movie, but I enjoyed it immensely.

Agar Biwi Chahiye Ghar me Pass to Ghar mein hona padega sandas

I myself never thought of watching this movie having a weird kind of name Toilet -Ek Prem katha....but once the movie starts and shows the struggle of two lovers just for a toilet....it becomes interesting at each and every moment ...the film never looses its grip from the story and keeps on astonishing with surprises and twists....Moreover the at each and every moment there is a logic for. Normally which we don't see in some of the third grade comedy movies...Songs also beautifully inserted into the movies without feeling you bored over there even if you are not a song lover.....More than this the movies ultimate aim is to fight against the narrow minded ness of the society which thinks a toilet can not be built in Home and that will opoosite of our culture...but the things it beautifully explains to those who think like this in their own language ...Thanks Akshay and his team for choosing this subject for the benefit of society and for viewers an ultimate comedy movie

A story about public defication, female discrimination, and religous culture in India.

Inspired by real events and misleadingly advertised as a comedy (though there are some humorous moments in the first act), the bulk of the movie deals with the very real and serious issue of public dedication in India, particularly with regard to the discrimination rural women must endure, and the struggle to get deeply religious Indian culture to accept change.

Good movie with dialogue and comedy

This is best movie to watch, this is value of money..... Good comedy and dialogue with best direction. Good acting of akshay and other co- actors. This is the film you won't feel bore during the full movie. Movie is able to bind the audience till end. Background of the film is based on God Krishna's birth place MATHURA. They used local language very well. This is fully entertain, good time pass with valued money. I recommended to you to go to watch "Toilet ek prem katha".

Heavy handed message, but relevant at this time

I first heard of this movie, when I heard the very catchy title song on the radio. The performances were strong, though the plot was pretty thin. It would have been nice to have the relationship of the leads build up together. Also, it would have been more effective to be shown why the beliefs exist the way they do, rather than one group being portrayed as the villains

Please find a better way for spreading social messages

Why? This is utter disappointment on a base of such a hype. Poor dialogues and the lengthy plot make this piece a torture for the audience. It carries a social message in a clear way (commercialized and attempted to entertain), well thanks for it. Had it been a short-film with such a cast and a compact story line, I would have really enjoyed it.

It is a must watch film.

Toilet ek prem katha- The best movie of 2017 on social issue. Akshay kumar was fantastic, his acting was powerful. Bhumi pednekar is best with her acting and also best suit in this role hope her best from her incoming films. Only the songs makes the film a little bit bore. Otherwise the film is best and watchable.
