Boggy Creek Monster

Interesting, but...

In all honesty could be a 12 minute YouTube doc. Lots of locals telling stories that they've heard over many years + interesting first hand experiences with the "monster", but the documentary never really goes anywhere other than this and in the end you can't help feeling like it's about an hour too long. The stories are generally the same (understandably) and with no actual footage or photos of the "monster" itself, nor any expert opinion or science backing up any samples of fur etc (as there aren't any), it quickly feels repetitive. Interesting, yes, but for me, over long.

Quite interesting but poor production

Watchable certainly but annoying production. Specifically the sound, interviews with the ex sheriff and museum curator are almost incoherent. Makes you think though that there could well be some out there....

Review for Boggy Creek Monster

This was another documentary that I sought out since I've seen others about cryptids from Seth Breedlove and his production company, Small Town Monsters. The title caught my interest as I remember watching The Legend of Boggy Creek with my mother who was terrified by this growing up. This is streaming on Tubi, so that made it easy.

Now I will preface here that this isn't the most in-depth look into the Fouke Monster. This would make a good companion piece though for the movie as Lyle Blackburn, who wrote a book on the subject and is the host for this documentary, goes around interviewing people who are still around from the area. They also talk to other local experts and walk around the areas from the movie.

I'll also say here that I don't believe there is a sasquatch out there. Is it possible and can I prove anything, no. I do think if there was, we would have more evidence. That's not to say that these people didn't experience something that they cannot explain. This is an entertaining documentary. It runs close to 75 minutes. It is made well enough with the cinematography and framing. Like I said, I recommend it to fans of the film and would make a great special feature for The Legend of Boggy Creek as a companion.

My Rating: 6 out of 10.

Interesting Documentary

Boggy Creek Monster (2016)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

Fairly interesting documentary that goes back to Fouke, Arkansas where the film THE LGEND OF BOGGY CREEK was filmed. Director Seth Breedlove travels back to the location of that film to interview people who have seen the monster as well as give an update on some of the people whose stories were told in that now cult movie.

There's nothing ground-breaking to be found in this documentary but if you're a fan of the movie or just a fan of Bigfoot then you should enjoy this. At just 73-minutes the film manages to features some entertaining interviews including some audio clips of Smokey Crabtree who was considered one of the biggest experts on the Creature. It was fascinating getting to see the Fouke locations today as well as get some updates on THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK.
