A Tree a Rock a Cloud

I would humbly suggest that this was the stupidest short I have endured in this lifetime. It completely wasted an opportunity to be be profound, or even just good. The characters were good; the setting was excellent, but the dialog was just devoid of any meaningful content. For the old man to go into such boring, irrelevant detail with a pre-pubescent boy about his lost love life was completely up in smoke before the camera even started rolling. It occurs to me that the boy had more wisdom to share with the old man, but the old man wasn't astute enough or open-minded enough to grasp that opportunity. Maybe try again.

This was a short, that was just short of incredible. The skill of the director just blew me away. Was so good that it almost detracted from the superb dialogue (although mostly monologue which was worthy of an Oscar). Every single scene, every single camera angle, every single prop, just drew you into a perfectly-flowing movie. The art of it all was incredible.

As for the content of dialogue, it was REAL. The kid barely had a clue what the old man was telling him, true, but this is one of the things he will remember and look back in life and be able to say, "Oh, I get it now". I for one certainly did.

And for what it's worth, and I just realized this now, this perfect little film was created by a certain female director, one that most everyone on the planet has seen in one of her many acting rolls, one of her most famous being that of Marion, the female lead to Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark! No wonder this first-time director shot a film that looks like it came from someone with years of experience in cinema... she did!
