Troye Sivan can't go wrong

Sometimes charisma is everything. And Troye Sivan has that in bundles. He is just so suited for the screen, and a good actor too. A great singer for sure.

The film was very pleasant to watch. I truly enjoyed it, plus the bonus of seeing the great Ellen Burstein and Louis Gossett jr. - great cast.

I hope to see more of Troye in films, as well as music. He is such a huge talent.

Go see this movie. You will enjoy it.

Very cute, needs a bit more oomph.

Overall, quite a pleasant movie and refreshing for the subject matter it covers, to a fault almost. It's nice to see a movie about HIV that isn't all doom and gloom - at the same time, the film feels weirdly low-stakes as it tends to undercut any narrative tension by always trying to downplay the seriousness. The film's central theme - waiting - isn't a very dynamic action, and so the movie just kind of plods along, from scene to scene. Some supporting characters feel underdeveloped, and so some of the dramatic moments later in the film feel unearned. As a comedy, however, it works well - no particularly outrageous scenes, just a steady stream of chuckles. The central love story is lovely, with some nice chemistry between Caleb and Estha.

Troye Sivan shines in the comedic moments of the film and seems very comfortable on screen, although he struggles just a bit with some of the story's more serious scenes. He really makes the character his own - it helps that he's pretty. All supporting performances are serviceable, Brianna Tju and Viveik Kalra play their roles well. A delightful debut by writer/director Jared Frieder!

I recommend watching it - it's nice, simple, touching, amusing, heartfelt, and we get so few queer films like it.

Good and then runs out of story and steam

Not sure what happened but it's like half a movie... like they couldn't be bothered to finish it off properly. Shame as what it does it does pretty well and the acting it top notch. Sort of doesn't know what to do with itself after solid early premise. So the experience is a fade out to black and feeling a little short changed. The drama the dialogue the storyboard lacks purpose and definition by the third act. Troy's Sivian show real premise throughout and holds what is provided together with gusto and confidence. The soundtrack is also classy lofi and non pretentious. I get that the movie probably didn't want to get to gritty, too dramatic, too generic or predictable but it ends up feeling too light weight for me by the end.

Life must go on

I like the attitude and people living in a non discriminated environment. Problems not change how we live but attitude does. I love the spirit of this movie and we are all equal, treasure the time when you are young.

Don't judge this film 'cause a famous singer plays the main character! you'll miss an amazing movie.

Great comedy, with an emotional realistic plot, great acting, fresh teen vision, and comfortingly good queer representation!!

I absolutely loved this movie, I felt connected to the characters while watching, the first half hour I didn't even want to think of finishing it, i was felling confortable so I did not want to say goodbye even though i had just meet them. I get happy, angry, sad, anxious and frustrated all in the 1 hour and 40 something minutes, for me a good movie needs to give you a different amount of emotions, a good movie will get you so into it, that the characters emotions will be yours, Three Months for sure did that to me.

As a queer young person myself, it feels great to have this kind of films to watch, not a single toxic stereotype, lots of inside jokes for the community, and a sweat but realistic love story! I loved the chemistry of the main couple, it didn't feel forced at all, Estha is akward and literal, Caleb is sarcastic and "cool", making them opposites, but even with their completely different contexts they're going through the same complicated situation so they conect at the first sight, stills nothing happens between them too early, their relationship grows in a time that feels correct, of course they like each other since the first day, but it wouldn't feel natural if they just confessed their love instantly. The movie don't try to sell you a perfect summer romance, but it does not give you a "bad guy" for their story either, you understand why they both acted in the way they did, even if you pic a side, 'cause sadly being gay is not easy for everyone.

I was really excited to watch this movie since i heard about it, i know Troye Sivan and i know his projects don't disappoint, he's got an strong concept and vision, you can see it as listening his songs and watching his music videos, he has basically been famous forever, young wolverine on X-Man, YouTuber, and now a pop star who's catching his actor self again, ever since he started being a celebrity he has done justice for the gay content, always bringing this kinds of topics to his audience, talking 'bout AIDS since his 2013 youtube era, doing a whole trilogy of music videos about not being accepted for being gay on 2015/6, and much more. It just make sense to see him in this film, he is not a radom famous singer they choose cause his image will bring lots of money. So please don't look this movie as less cause a pop star play the protagonist, he has being an actor for long, even if its not the focus of his career, he is involved in the topic too! He is a great actor, Caleb is funny, he also feels relatable, young and fresh. And if you're not familiar with Troye's music or him as a person, I definitely invite you to watch some of his content, he is worth it.

I gave this movie a 9 and not a 10 cause the ending did not gave everything i would like it to give, it catch me wishing for more, i would not say "bad" but I didn't feel it as strong or as "wow!" enough for the topic of the movie.

Troye Sivan is the saving grace

It's bugged me a little when we have fine teen films like Never Rarely Sometimes Always, or even Plan B, whose delicately deals with their serious theme without falling into too archetypical, and then we have Three Months.

I know it's an MTV film, hence being light and glittery has to be in its repertoire. However, the crammed of the late 2000's/early 2010's teen films clichés into the narrative doesn't necessarily make it more than just average at best.

Heartfelt

Not as in your face as something like "It's a Sin" biit Hopefully enough to get people talking. The stigma still exists predominately within the LGBTQI+ Community. This needs to change and it's movies like this that start the conversation.

i may sound goofey and im not that comfy...

With the genderliberace lifestyles of the modern era, but thats becausue im a grumpy old man, that has been strait since being concieved, and the closest ive come to gayplay is hugging my buddies, bashing around nightclubbing in the mist of alcoholic mayhem, admitting saying ''i do love you''in the heat of the moment, because friendship is love in a way i think. I used to have at least 15 buddies in my friendgroup, wemet each day, and the weekends where the same, ''drunk and happy'' as norw.pop group ''prudence'' sang half a century ago. Today though ive managed to loose contact with all of them, ive become an orthodoskly grumpy old man...

this film is a film of summer and llove and stain of the pain where the itching of living out your lifestyle hit you hard in the bellybutton. It can easily be divided in five chapters, the incident phase, after first test, after second test and the epilougous moments of the third test. What is tested is what gay people fear the most since leaving their closets, and thats HIV.

A very well acted , ok written stgaylife in a coming of age boy in south florida. Its decent filmatographed and filled to the brim with easyllisten' music and song that will hang with you in days of the aftermath. I do love this movie style of casual living and social realism when its durably done, and '' three months '' come s under the umbrella of this definition of mine. Though its not perfect its a recommend.

An Unexpected Masterpiece

I didn't expect much going into this movie but I guess I didn't realise the brilliance right away. Seriously, I did not know it was going to be such a heavy storyline! The conflict, the characters, the dialogue- you can really tell there was a lot of effort put into it. And Troye Sivan really puts the pro in protagonist. I was so amazed by the second half because of how light it started off. Amazing writing and perfect actors. I wish this movie was more popular- it is the most beautiful, powerful, YA film I've seen in a long time. I hope it reaches today's youth. A magical, lovely movie, overall.

The beginning of the adulthood life!

The movie "Three Months" is a teen movie specifically for teenagers. The film revolves around the life of a teen during the period of 3 months of blood test results to find out if he is HIV+. Director Jared Frieder made an easy and uncomplicated film, without judgments and prejudices but some scenes seem out of reality as if the characters' world is surrounded by gays and lesbians. In my opinion, the film lacks maturity, both in plot and direction. The film has actors with promising futures.

Why this is 2?

At first, you think you're watching a good creative movie until you find out that this is another story about an avoidant gen z gay man who is self-centered and unloyal. No depth. Poor me! No one loves me.

"it's Amazing What You Can Discover When Life Gets F--d Up"

This was a strange one. Maybe it would have worked better in 2011 when it was set. I don't know why, but I struggled to get into the characters. And I'm Troye Sivan biggest fan, top 0.01% according to Spotify. It was however a good story that doesn't get told all that often, and it was handled really well. I must just be out of touch with the youths.

Three Months

I was watching this for ages before I cottoned on that Viveik Kalra was the young lad from the Springsteen-themed "Blinded by the Light" (2019). In this, he plays the slow-burning love interest for "Caleb" (Troye Sivan). This latter man had a one night stand that exposed him, inadvertently, to an HIV risk that requires him to spend the next three months behaving himself and waiting for a series of test results to, hopefully, give him the all-clear. His doctor advises that he attend a group therapy session and that's where he meets the shy "Estha" and... This starts off quite strongly and it's easy to see why Sivan is successful as an "influencer" - he has charisma and personality which he brings, quite cheekily, to this drama. The story quickly runs out of steam though, and despite some charmingly feisty performances from Ellen Burstyn as his grandmother and Louis Gossett Jr. As her beau "Benny" the quality of the writing quickly drops away and the story loses pretty much all of it's impetus - not really aided by a rather silly sub-plot with his pal "Dara" (Brianne Tju) and their boss "Suzanne" (Judy Greer). It's really just a vehicle for the star, and he does just enough to keep it afloat - it's a pity that the story didn't have a bit more meat on it's bones.

Beautiful, fun and emotional movie

I really enjoyed this movie, watched it twice. Troye Sivan was incredible as Caleb! I love the powerful message it contains that life is what we make of it and no matter what, he's going to be ok. It's all about love, friendship and hope.

I hope this movie, screen play and Troye get nominated for awards cos they all deserve it so much! With an industry full of commercial blockbusters, small independent movies like this bring me the most joy to watch.

Sorry Troye, this aint it

Im a filmbuff and a big fan of troye, one of his last remaining OGs, and i didn't enjoy a lot of the movie, and i was gonna write a bit harsh review, but i felt so bad coz i realised as i wrote: i am so harsh on him coz i know him and i really love him" and I honestly didn't feel like dragging him down, by talking about his accent, and acting ... i want whats best for him, but im gonna leave my rating as it was, but rather just say, troye i know to many fans just care about your looks, but you pulled that of here aswell, you look gorgeous in this movie....when you are not talking X) srry, BUT i wanna see you more in movies, but in roles and accents that fit you more.

Really didn't expect to enjoy this so much

I watched this purely because Troye Sivan was in it and I wanted to support him. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't expecting it to actually be good, was hoping it would at least be mid.

I'm actually kinda shocked to say I loved it! The acting was surprisingly good, especially for what I've seen of him so far. This is the best acting I've seen from him in any of his projects. I loved the characters, all of them. The premise of the story seemed kind of tired, but again, I absolutely loved the execution.

I saw a few people talking about how the story didn't delve into darkness and kept things too light, and I'm honestly puzzled by this critique. Yeah, it wasn't Euphoria, but the despair, longing and loneliness came through loud and clear for me.

Even being a fan of Troye, I wasn't expecting this to be good, but I genuinely thought it was pretty fantastic.

Amazing and Very Meaningful Story

I just had to go through the HIV test process, and this story really meant a lot to me after everything I went through. Troye is fantastic in it, and I hope he continues to pursue acting along with music because he really brings feeling and emotion to this movie.

Modern take

This movie was a little bit on the sad side but it did clearly show a modern-day take on Hy-Vee. It was nice to see a show that provides some hope when it comes to dealing with HIV and AIDS. Some recent shows like it's a sin have concentrated more on the pandemic when it first came to light back in the 80s and 90s and how would that time it was viewed as a death sentence. Today there are some fantastic Pharmaceuticals out there that can lower your viral load to undetectable which also means untransmittable, and can allow for a long and prosperous life. Troye Sivan did a great job of acting especially for somebody who is relatively new to movies. I enjoyed the movie even though I was a little bit sad at the end but I won't give a spoiler.

Afterglow

Content

Premise: A boy finds out that his one night stand is HIV positive, and his test result comes out in three months. 'Three months' documents his daily life and emotional state of those three months. When I read the plot summary, my first thought was 'is this gonna be another tear-jerker soap opera?'. It's my personal analysis, and it may be wrong; however, LGBQ awareness movies tend to be emotional, melancholy, and grey. 'Three months' does not scream the message, but it's still strong and powerful. The movie is not preachy about HIV awareness or does not describe Caleb as a sad misunderstood teenager.

Form

This is all possible because of how director Frieder chooses to tell the story in a composed way. There are not many scenes showing emotions of characters too directly. The lines are witty and short, and they do not overdo it. Writers really keep it simple but genuine and honest. It hits harder after the movie than during the movie. Emotions linger and resonate like afterglow. Photography, colors, and editing are very modern and young. Summery pictures and pastel colors allude to Florida and youth. Sivan's acting is something. He's so sincere that Caleb feels like a real person. I'm not sure he's a skilled actor, but I could tell that Sivan is telling his story in the movie.

Intimate, bubbly and important.

Troye Sivan shines as an actor playing the sarcastic 18 year old Caleb. He makes you feel the complexities of being a teenager dealing with grief, love and waiting for a life changing moment. Brianne Tju and Viveik Kalra's characters are both fun and compelling to watch. This film offers a refreshing take on an important conversation about AIDS and is a must watch. Jared Frieder does an excellent job in making this film a delight to watch.
