The summary for this movie here is a bit misleading. Jed (Nick Thune) works as a professional photo editor who keeps to himself. However, things quickly change for Jed when he meets a pretty girl who reveals his brother met his significant other online. This revelation leads Jed down a social media rabbit hole. Meanwhile, Tesha, someone who creates social media influencers, becomes determined to turn a normal person into a high-profile social media influencer. Tesha picks Jed as her test subject. In the process of becoming an influencer, Jed reconnects with Franky, his old high school crush. Franky, a struggling actor who is trapped in an unhappy marriage, finds herself connecting with Jud, only for him to not know she is married.
Overall, this was a good movie, even if, at times, it didn't know what it wanted to be. For one, there are two conflicting storylines. The Jud and Franky storyline is your average Hallmark love story. He's still in love with her. She likes him back but has an unsupportive husband who doesn't want her to follow her dreams. You've seen it a million times. On the other hand, the storyline about Jed being an influencer was interesting but needed to be developed a bit more. This also came out in 2017, and social media has changed a lot since then. It's not that unusual now for a random person to become a major online influencer. Even IMDB is drastically different now than it was back then. RIP Message boards. At times, the movie tries to provide commentary on the complexity of social media, like the fact that most of what you see isn't real but that it can also be used as a tool to help raise money for people in need. However, it never really lingers on these questions or says anything unique about social media. As for the cast, they mostly do well with what they are given to work with. I've never really cared for Nick Thune as an actor, and I prefer him as a stand-up comic (he was terrible in Love Life). He just lacks emotion, especially as a lead. The highlights were Tasha and Franky, who both really carried the movie. There is also a really fun escape room scene with Chrissie Fit (Pitch Perfect 2&3). She only has a small part, but it was hilarious, especially if you are a fan of her work. All in all, it's a decent movie worth watching if it's on a streaming service you subscribe to. I just wish it had a little more depth.

What seemed to start as an interesting idea, developed thereafter into something almost boring. I like the plot, it's intriguing. But it misses some points. The cast should have played more with the script and others things to make it more enjoyable. It turned out to be fairly messy.
What an absolute waste of my time. I should have known better from the synopsis. i couldn't work out what the message was. Being a Social media film, surely i was supposed to face a moral dilemma. Whoever funds these films please stop. Absolute nonsense.
Full disclosure, I'm a media influencer. That does not mean I go around my phone sewn to my hand though. This movie is an absolutely miserable Slice of Life that speaks on the evils social media which isn't a bad thing in my opinion but breaking up a marriage and making it okay to be morally and socially untrue to your partner and making it out to be the Romantic part of the story is disgraceful, and the rest of the whole thing was just bizarre. The story line leads you off in one way making you think that relationships are going to go one way and then they thread in characters that end up having no meaning to the storyline whatsoever so they just confuse things. It's just a bizarre movie I've really feel like I wasted an hour 31 minutes of my life. Thanks a lot Sherwin Shilati.
I thought the film did a good job despite working around typical RomCom plots and cliché's. There was decent character development and arcs in addition to some realistic themes such as regretting the past and covering up insecurities. Those who just see it as a social media film are only looking at it at the absolute top layer.

Will: Go to the party at least.
Jed: Well, are you gonna come with me or not?
Will: I don't know. Dave's got this work thing...
Jed: [interrupts] There's an open bar.
Will: I'll-I'll be there for my best friend when he needs me. So, I'll be there, with you and Dave's just gonna have to understand that we are also independent. We are connected by the heart but separated by... when there's free alcohol involved.
